We begin with nbcs Hallie Jackson covering the republican race from des moines. Halle, good morning. For donald trump this poll represents a 15pointed turnaround since september. Nearly half of likely caucusgoers say even now they could be convinced to change their minds. If they do, its ted cruz that could stand to benefit the most. Flying high for now, its donald trump on top, the day before the caucuses in iowa. Where the latest poll shows he leads ted cruz by 5 points. The numbers were so good for me, which im happy about. Reporter but trumps acknowledging turnout will matter mormon night. It all doesnt matter if you dont caucus monday. Reporter his closest rival here, ted cruz, says he has volunteers making 20,000 phone calls to potential caucusgoers. Were just wanting to know if we can count on you to caucus for cruz on monday. Reporter cruz has slid recently, a sign trumps attacks may be working. The most effective one, according to new polling, not on he borrowed a lot of money, as you know, from Goldman Sachs and from citibank. Reporter cruz failed to fully disclose his loans from big banks. But trump has his problems too, including his support for eminent domain. Cruz had been hitting him on that. We dont know. We havent seen the evidence of an upturn in Voter Registration on either side. Look, high voter turnouts are good for Bernie Sanders with the democrats and trump with the republicans. Ive talked to these first time caucusgoers. The Cruz Campaign believes theyre going to win and that theyre still ahead, because theyre skeptical of these first time caucusgoers. Ive talked to them. Some of them have not voted in any election in 20 years. So thats why the skepticism is there. You think, boy, are they going to get up, go through this the caucus location on time . You can get there at a specific time or they lock the door and you cant get in. Trumps whole reliance is on a bunch of people who have never done this before. Chuck, turning to the democrats, what does a second place finish for Bernie Sanders in iowa mean for his campaign moving forward . I think it means that he will be a tough challenger for Hillary Clinton. But its hard to imagine how he could ever overtake her. You cant sort of make the democratic nomination fight a true one on one battle thats neck and neck the whole time if you cant knock her off here. If you cant beat her here, then outside of New Hampshire, where else is he going to beat her . If he starts making inroads in south carolina, nevada, he will convince democrats, wow, he pulled off an upset in iowa. New hampshire is one thing, thats his next door state. But pulling it off here i think its a mustwin for sanders, to be honest. Whats the headline Tuesday Morning . What are we talking about Tuesday Morning after the caucuses are over . Well, if its look, were going to be talking about donald trump, lets be realistic, right . Its Donald Trumps world, were just lucky to live in it sometimes. It could be a blizzard on tuesday, we could be exploring some interesting runin the at the airport on monday night. Through the day on monday, well see just increasing clouds. Temperatures across the state will be running in the upper 30s, lower 40s, everythings fine. Then we get into monday night and tuesday. Thats when the blizzard warning kicks in. Notice the southeast part of the state not under the blizzard warnings. Thats where well most likely see rain. If you head south, youll be able to make any sort of flights. But if youre in the des moines area anywhere across central and northern iowa, were looking at very gusty winds, as much as 9 to 12 inches of snow. To california, three dangerous criminals are back in jail after they escaped last week. The final two were captured on saturday, one day after their fellow inmate turned himself into police. Reporter craig, for eight days those escaped inmates managed to stay at least one step ahead of more than a dozen Law Enforcement departments in the state of california. But it only took the quick thinking of one citizen in San Francisco to alert police and bring them d down. For Law Enforcement in california, it was like waking up from a bad dream. One of a sheriffs worst nightmares. Reporter after a week of anxiety and a state of excitement, a chance to exhale. A sigh of relief. Reporter all three men who broke out of jail back in custody. Hossain nayeri and Jonathan Tieu captured 400 miles away in this San Francisco parking lot. Police credited the quick thinking of a bystander who spotted the stolen van and alerted officers. As police approached, Hossain Nayeri fled on foot but didnt get far. He was apprehended without further incident. Reporter police found Jonathan Tieu inside the van along with 380 rounds of ammunition. It was clear to us these people were armed and dangerous. Reporter a day earlier, bac duong turned himself in. Investigators zeroed in on Hossain Nayeri as the possible mastermind. Police say despite speaking english, he enrolled in an class with teacher nooshafarin ravaghi. She was arrested on thursday, held on suspicion that she provided maps that may have helped the men escape. We do know it was much closer and much more personal than it should be.
