New york expects about 3 million for their fireworks. 700,000 people may go to the national mall. Police will have special patrols around major landmarks. Kris van cleave joins us with more. This will be a checkpoint for the fireworks tomorrow. Were getting a clear sense how police are responding to threats. Yesterday reports of are a possible gunman at the scene of a 2013 mass shooting. Moments after a suspected gunshot was report at the Washington Navy yard im dispatching a second rescue squad to the staging area. Reporter hundreds of officers from a dozen local and federal agencies descended on the area amid heightened concerns of a terror attack. Our posture remains very high for all special events and it will continue for the fourth. Reporter the department of Homeland Security warned of an increased threat of isisinspired events over the holiday. But there is no specific credible intelligence. Only that isis has called for attacks against members of the military, Law Enforcement, the u. S. Government and the american public. Ron hosko is a former assistant director of the fbi. This threat is different because of who isis is trying to inspire. They are trying to inspire every u. S. Citizen. Anyone here to take up arms and take the action you see fit. Reporter in recent weeks Law Enforcement made dozens of arrests of alleged isis sympathizers across the country. This year already 24 isislinked plots against western targets up from 19 last year. The safety of the air is not the only concern. Samples of the surrounding soil and groundwater are also being tested by the Environmental Protection agency. Its not to say the water is contaminated. The blunt county 911 emergency director told us a reverse 911 call did go out thursday morning but only about 61 of the people in the targeted area received that phone call. This is a 73yearold selfdescribed democratic socialist with a brooklyn accent by way of vermont. And he himself, i spoke to him before he launched the campaign. He had no idea if this was going to take off. It did. Not because of Bernie Sanders but because theres this huge hunger in the Democratic Party for some sort of liberal populist movement. This is really where the energy is in the party. Youre seeing a lot of frustration with the Hillary Clinton campaign not because of anything shes done but shes seen as part of the establishment. These are people hungry for elizabeth warren. Its so hard to see, you know Bernie Sanders with his crazy white hair and long professorial speeches becoming the nominee but it shows the frustration with Hillary Clinton and mainstream of the party. When you look at the num birsbernumbers, its 15 million for sanders. In the age of donald trump, money is everything in politics youd much rather be in Hillary Clintons position right now. Bernie sanders is technically close to a statistical tie, but these campaigns are a long slog. So you certainly want to be in Hillary Clintons position. It is going to be all about cash in the end. This is a cry of pain from the populists rising within the party. They dont have a candidate so theyll make this their candidate. The other name is that of Vice President joe biden. Do you think theres any chance he still jumps in . Theres no doubt joe biden would like to be in this race. I suspect hes kicking himself right now because he was contemplating a run when Hillary Clinton was sucking all the oxygen ot of the room. Now this Vice President is watching Bernie Sanders mount a viable challenge to Hillary Clinton. The plain truth is unless something really happens to Hillary Clinton beyond this email problem to make her stumble, theres no way at this late stage for biden to get in. An Army Sergeant faces charges for carrying a militarystyle rifle and ammunition outside a North Carolina mall. 25yearold Bryan Scott Wolfinger forced a busy Shopping Center in fayetteville into lock lockdown last night. Vladimir ductthiers joins us with more. Reporter he was charged with a misdemeanor. This comes on a Holiday Weekend when people have been told to be vigilant. When people outside this mall saw something, a man with a gun, they said something. Bryan wolfinger sat handcuffed on the ground outside the cross creek mall. They arrested the Army Sergeant after he brought an ar15 rifle to the Shopping Center. We got several calls about a subject entering the mall with a rifle. The first responding officers made contact with that officer, gave him verbal commands. Subject complied. They took him into custody. Reporter customers who saw him toting the weapon called. A lot of kids were crying. We were at the counter. The Police Officer told everybody to evact. Nobody had any idea what was going on. Reporter wolfinger never made it inside the mall. He had a military grade tactical vest and was carrying multiple high capacity magazines. Fay yetville police said wolfinger was at the mall because he was going to have photographs taken at a studio with the military equipment. He made a bad decision. Wolfinger, a maryland native is assigned to ft. Bragg. He was released into the militarys custody. Its about 10 miles from ft. Bragg, the Largest Military installation. The sergeant is guilty of very poor judgment but its not yet clear if he was breaking any military laws. Vlad, thank you. New concerns about the first measles death in this country in more than a decade. Washington Health Officials confirm pneumonia caused by measles killed an unidentified woman this spring. Its not tied to the disneyland outbreak but it comes 15 years after the virus was considered eliminated in the u. S. Dr. David agus joins us. Happy holidays. To you as well. How did this woman catch this . This is reportedly a woman who had an aughttoimmune disease. When you are on immune suppressant drugs. She was in the hospital for Something Else and caught measles from that person because she didnt have an immune response to the measles. You didnt get the classic rash and other things. Pneumonia spread and she died of the disease. This is the first confirmed case in many years. There have been other cases of measles probably but they werent confirmed by the cdc. She had a compromised immune system. This is dargesngerous for someone to catch measles. Your immune system fights this disease. Were seeing this legislation in california and vermont is because of that. Whether you are getting chem chemo chemotherapy or some other drug. We dont have a right to get a virus and spread it to someone else when it may kill them. Thats why these laws are very important. You and i both live in california. Just this week the governor signed a new law that bans most of these personal exemptions for vaccines. Is that going to help . I think its great. When we start to get herd immurnity, thats high 90 of people who are vaccinated this doesnt happen anymore. This is integral the Vaccine Program inner country, so we cannot have those unnecessary deaths. She didnt have any symptoms. Is it possible she could have spread it to other people . Is there any thought there could be a larger outbreak we havent seen yet . Measles is one of the most contagious viruses we have. Most people up to 90 , are vaccinated. So theyll not get it if its spread to them. If she was with somebody else who is immune suppressed or nonvaccinated, she could spread it to them. Suns april last year there have been eight shark attacks off the australian coast. Three were fatal. And this shark hung around. After the attack they could see it in the waters. I dont want to be in the water with that. In the u. S. Experts are trying to make sense of this years sudden jump in shark attacks. 11 so far in the carolinas. The latest happened in North Carolina waters. Vicente arena is in key biscayne with theories as to why this is happening. Reporter most of the shark attacks took place on beaches like this one not so far from shore. With so many people heading to the ocean shes days they are reminding beachgoers this is where sharks lives, no matter how shallow the water may be. Sharks can be found in the same waters vacationers also are. Open from here to there. Reporter last year 23yearold Jessica Vaughn was tubing in the innercoastal waterway when she was attacked. Vaughn was quickly pulled to safety but not before a gash had been torn in her right leg. At first she didnt know what happened. When they pulled me on the boat i saw the teeth mark and realized it was a shark. Reporter in North Carolina alone, 7 attacks were reported in the past three weeks. The highest number in the eight years since the university of florida began keeping records. Dr. Samuel gruber is the director of the bimini sharklab research center. Something strange is going on because the trend is normally zero or one attack in that area in any one year. Reporter theories as to why the attacks are happening include bait fishing, sea turtle migration, lunar cycles and global warming. Gruber says the real answer lies not with sharks but with human beings themselves. The real question you have to ask joursyourself is where do people swim . Warm waters like florida, tropical waters. You have more people in the water with more sharks youre likely to get more shark attacks. Reporter its often says your chances of being struck by lightning are higher than being bit by a shark. More than 70,000 dead heads here tonight to kick off three nights of concerts by the Legendary Group which will be performing together for the last time. Half a century after they started, members of the grateful dead just keep trucking on. Thats the magic about this music. It goes through all those generations. Bill kreutzmann was the drummer in 1965. Now 69 hed be the first to acknowledge what a long strange trip its been. After the best shows id go out and have the most outrageous thyme. I remember the events after the shows. They were extremely outrageous. The shows were extremely wonderful. But the energy doesnt stop when the show is over.
