As you wake up in the west, commuters are describing a chaotic and scary scene after a Northern California train flew off the tracks. Part of the train ended up in a rushing creek, last night, southeast of San Francisco. A mud slide during a storm sent a tree on to the tracks, knocking the front of the train into the water. The railroad says nine people were hurt, four seriously. John blackstone is in fremont with the dramatic rescues. You see derailed cars from the ace commuter train, part of the altamont corridor express, a commuter line that runs 80 miles between san jose and stockton, california. Passengers who were aboard this train last night just before it ran into the water say it was a wild ride. The altamont corridor express, also known as the ace train ran off the tracks monday night in a remote area. It was jolting. I mean, it was a fairly wild ride. We felt a couple sharp jerks and suddenly slowed down. The train went to a complete stop. 214 people were on board as it twisted through niles canyon during a heavy rainstorm which caused a tree to fall into its path. The train was on the tracks. When the train struck it, the train derailed. One of the cars slid into the mud in alameda crack. Cannon mckenzie was in the adjoining card. People were crying for help. I went to find the conductor. He had flown out the front window when it hit. Flew straight out. Had a bad head injury. The number 10 train left san jose at 6 38 p. M. On its way to stockton, a little more than half an hour into the ride, it derailed into niles m s canyon. Alameda county firefighters launched a res cuse operation. We were clear on all six s e sides. They were bused to the scene at the county fair grounds. Ive been taking this train for 15 years. Nothing like this. Generally this thing is really safe. Reporter the National Transportation safety board says its aware of the accident but so far has not sent an Investigative Team here. They say they are standing by to provide support as fess. President obama reflected monday on meeting the former first lady during his early days in the white house. I had the opportunity to meet mrs. Reagan once. Obviously she was already advanced in age but could not have been more gracious and charming to myself and michelle when we first came into office.
