North end 680 is shut down, all lanes shut down by the 84, calaveras road at 3 30 this morning. It has been out for a couple of hours at this point. They are diverting traffic on 284. That is probably the best alternate in and around the area. Easy to commute through the area, 84 is backed up heade out of the altamont pass. Livermore area, keep that in mind as well. Getting on 680 isnt an issue, it is the northbound lanes that are shut down. We will keep you updated on that and in the meantime, there are couple of things to look out for. It is busy into the altamont pallets out of tracy. And 580 westbound on 284 be advised north end 680 connector will be closed for quite some time. There are some delays on bark as well so keep this in mind if you are keeping three 615 on trans trips onto the. And foggy in some spots. Golden gate bridge, nort of here, potentially some fog o 101 through sausalito and on the north bay. Loss to think about on the roadways. Wish it was friday light. You have struggled with that, the fog was an issu yesterday to the late morning and we are seeing it redevelop today. A little extra time to deal with that. The clouds will be gone, with more sunshine tha anything else by early afternoon. Be high clouds will show up today. Daytime highs today, relatively cool compared to where we were but right on the mark for average for this time of year. Even if they are in places, 25 degrees below where they were on wednesday. Reporter a year ago through partnership with the San Francisco Public Utilities commission, anchor brewing installed a water reuse system that collects, retreats and uses water for parts of the operation outside of brewing th beer itself. Like for cleaning and in cooling towers. It is not direct contact wit the beer or anything that will become beer. This is the water coming into the facility. And this is the water at the very end. Reporter andrew is the director of field operations. H said they have installed simila systems at breweries and wineries in the region but this is the first in San Francisco. Breweries traditionally utilize freshwater, to make beer. The average, in the industry, is one gallon of beer takes anywhere from five to seven gallons of fresh wato make the product. Reporter a year into the program, anchor brewing is usin less fresh water. We have reduced water usage. It has been salad, about 10 . Reporter they could recycle up to 20 million gallons of water a year. Which brings us here. This is the Crystal Springs reservoir that is part of our Drinking Water supply. Reporter paula is the director of resources. This is where anchor brewings water savings are realized. In the reservoirs they rely on. Reporter we are entering the fourth year of the drought so obviousl having everyone use water as efficiently as possible is as important as ever. Projects suc as the anchor Brewery Project helps to store and stretch our Drinking Water supplies. Reporter there is only an upside to this way of saving. It allows us to make more beer with more. With a deepening drought in many parts of the country, the wildfire forecast as to the hazy outlook for air quality, especially for the Livermore Valley and the Santa Clara Valley. Reporter we are in the sant teresa hills overlooking the Santa Clara Valley and on this warm and sunny october day, you can see the haze over san jose. Since the Santa Clara Valley is a valley, it is surrounded b hills, air pollution can get trapped in the region. Reporter the air Quality Management district spokesperson said the Santa Clara Valley has higher levels of air pollution than other parts of the area. The district looked at data as far back as the 1980s. It has to do with th Santa Clara Valleys typography and higher ozone pollution, or smog, from a combination of heat, sunlight and tailpipe emissions. Also, particulate matter is up to unhealthy matters near the ground, settling into the valley, which can happen when we have a temperature inversion. What happens, you have a layer of warm air that acts lik a lid over a layer of cooler air near the surface and that can trap emissions from people burning wood in fireplaces near the ground level. Santa clara valley tends to collect more, i think, then nea San Francisco. Reporter michael has lived in the south bay for 64 years. He says, he sees the haze, often, just like he does today. During times when temperatures get warmer and theres a little bit of air hel down and it doesnt have wind blowing, then there is definitely a haze in the bay area and you can see it when yo get up in elevation, just a little bit and look over the valley.
