She returned from washington, d. C. This afternoon. The motorcade took her to the hospital where her husband underwent a very Successful Surgery for a Skull Fracture. The suspect, 42yearold david depape, was a pro nudity activist who is known for spreading and pessimistic rhetoric. He is also in the hospital this evening, but police say he will be become multiple charges. We do have live team coverage. Kenny choi has more on the suspect. Maybe just a couple Police Cruisers here at the scene. The federal investigators that we saw throughout the day seem to have filtered out. This morning, there was no security here, just a phone call and a 911 dispatcher who could not hear much but could hear enough. He doesnt know who the man is. He says he is a friend. He sounded somewhat confused. Reporter the dispatcher cannot hear much, but she knew something was wrong and rushed two officers to the home on a priority call. When they got there, they said they found 82yearold paul pelosi and an intruder struggling with a hammer. The suspect will the hammer away from mr. Pelosi and violently assaulted him with it. Our officers immediately tackled the suspect, disarmed him , took him into custody, requested emergency backup , and rendered medical aid. Reporter that is a bought all police have said. Investigators are working with the Capitol Police and the fbi. We are working closely with him right now with respect to the investigation, and we will proceed with the appropriate charges as things unfold , as well as work with the u. S. The medical team here had to repair a Skull Fracture as well as treat injuries to his right arm and hand. Sources tell cbs news he was hit several times in the head with a hammer, with at least one significant blow. Still, doctors say he will make a fool recovery, but they want to caution that ella given his age. Mr. Pelosi is 82. And because of the violent nature of the sensory.
