Hispanic heritage month. If they keep talking, eventually you hope theyre going to cut to something. Could a breakthrough be in the works . Possible signs of progress between hollywood writers and production studios. We started to see less and less of those familiar faces. A San Francisco restaurant going against the trend. Their push to welcome the community and offer a seat at their table. Through the edge, cut through traffic, deebo samuel in traffic for the touchdown. Are you ready for some football . Were counting down to kickoff at levis stadium for the niners home opener. And good morning once again. Im Nicole Zaloumis and were missing someone. Reed cowan is off today. I think hes sleeping in so he can stay up late to watch the niners. 100 . I mean he took the day off especially for the niner game. We miss you reed but hell be back on monday. Im gianna franco. But we got to talk about all these smoky conditions out there because i know you can smell it. A live look outside right now. You are waking up to another day with the murky skies because of the smoke on whats another first alert weather day and also another spare the air day. You might want to consider limiting Outdoor Activities. This is whats causing all of the problems. Wildfires burning near the california and oregon border. There are three huge complex fires burning in the siskiyou and humboldt counties. Check in with jessica right now. I know with the first alert weather day again today, are we going to see any signs of this maybe clearing at least a little bit closer to the sneak because temperatures are so beautiful right now. I know. We were outside yesterday and i was walking chopper and i kept thinking so myself, this would be the best day to head out to the park. And yet we can barely make it for about a minute before i started coughing and you know, to answer your question, gianna, its going to take a couple of days but we are going to start seeing some improvements. Lets take a look at the forecast right now. Throughout the bay area. As we wake up this morning, we are dealing with the hazy skies and heres a look at the current air quality map behind me. Probably in the red category which show unhealthy conditions widespread throughout the bay area. This is some of the worst smoke weve seen in quite some time thats really impacted many of us here in the bay area. 56 degrees right now in fremont and 50s into the Santa Clara Valley, this is jacket weather with that Pumpkin Spice latte. We are one day away folks from the first day of fall. And it kind of already is feeling like it if only we can get out there and enjoy it. Of course this air quality is calling for some terrible conditions when it comes to Outdoor Activities. Take it slow today and find the indoor activity if possible and s right now in San Francisco. Later into the this afternoon were actually going to warm up in the 60s there. It will be nice and cool for us along the coast today with sunnier skies up into the inland hills despite the fact we still have the haze. Now lets take a quick look at whats coming up around the corner. The bad, bad conditions with the haze. Its actually going to start improving in the weekend forecast but we have to get through today first. Many of us are going to be heading to levis stadium tonight for the game. If you are heading out there just take it slow and its still going to be hazy for us into the Santa Clara Valley were expecting 70s turning into the 60s pretty fast into the evening hours tonight. Heres that smoke thats continuing to sweep its way in from offshore. This is moving in with the winds. Moving in mostly from the north. So the north bay is seeing the worst air quality. The south bay catching just bit of a break. But were going to have more on that and how that will impact you in a bit and also the north bay under a red flag warning this morning in certain pockets. For now over to you. In the north bay the smoky haze just hovering over marin county. Didnt stop people from going outside for the most part. Longtime locals tell us this is nothing like the air quality issues that theyve had in the past. And it made some of them realize how lucky weve been so far this season. I think weve all dealt with much worst in the past. I dont think anybody is really freaking out. Because this is were lucky that this is all we have for the year, then i think were going to be happy to just you know, say that this was not such a bad year. Such a welcome relief. I mean im so happy that i havent had to use the filtering at all. So i would rather have them and not need them. And if you are looking for the latest air quality readings in your area, we have several links with the story over on kpix. Com. Yeah. I think back to the orange skies that happened what . In 2020 in september at this time of year, so different than now. But still be careful out there if you maybe ride the bike or walk to work or school. Consider using Public Transit and everything is on time this morning. And hey, you will avoid this. You can use a. C. E. Rail and avoid the brake lights out of tracy on to 580. Supercommuters already busy for you working into the Altamont Pass this morning. We have got the brake lights there and wow look at this. Already stacked up at the bay bridge toll plaza for commuters heading into San Francisco. Mccaffrey up the middle inside the 10. A stiff arm at the 5. And in for the touchdown and were going to hope to see a lot more of that tonight at levis stadium for the niners home opener. Its the middle of the week but the boys are back at it for thursday night football against the giants. Im so ready for it and hopefully one of biggest playmakers will be ready too and on the field. Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has a shoulder injury and could be a gametime decision. A really great start this season for him. The niners, theyre popular in a lot of places. Not just here. But it is also part of the celebration for hispanic heritage month. Yes, and our Shawn Chitnis is live this morning at levis stadium with more on the man who helped Spanish Speaking fans enjoy the game. Shawn, good morning to you once again. Reporter hey nicole and gianna, good morning. Yeah, what great way to start off the home opener with latino heritage night. Latin artists that are part of the entertainment during the game. Part of an effort by the team and the league to embrace the fans and the players and the staff who have latino culture and heritage. And this one man that were going to introduce you to is doing just that by really helping to get more fans to Pay Attention to the team and the games around the world. Jesus zarate has been a member of the faithful since well before he moved to the bay area. Born in mexico, he got a 49ers gold jacket from his dad that made him a fan for life. And now he gets to cheer on the team professionally as a playbyplay announcer covering games in spanish. Its amazing. Its its something really special. A dream come true. Reporter jesus moved to the bay area when he was in elementary school. He studied Sports Broadcasting at San Francisco state and since 2018, hes been working for the team, broadcasting games each week. Its very important to make people feel part of this and i think that the 49ers do a great job, excellent job with that. Reporter fans are listening in from around the world, like mexico, costa rica, and even spain. That makes his job a lot of fun, but it also gives him a great responsibility. And while jesus takes his job seriously, he still has moments that bring out the child from mexico cheering on his team. During the game we always have like jerry rice on the sidelines and when you look at him its like unreal. I mean, thats jerry rice. You know . Thats the g. O. A. T. Touchdown 49ers reporter jesus has developed a catch phrase for big plays. Im like okay [ speaking in a global language ] which basically means like goodbye everybody and then, touchdown 49ers. Reporter even taught us how to say faithful to the bay in spanish. [ speaking in a global language ] but some terms just dont need translating. When you say touchdown, everybody understands this no matter what language they speak. Reporter its a reminder that regardless of where you live and what culture you come from, the love of the game can unite us all. In sports, football in this case, brings people together. No matter where you are from. Reporter and jesus was telling us that social media is really a great tool in the situation. He can see the fans listening to the broadcast. If you want to hear him broadcast the games in spanish you can do so by going to the 49ers website or by using the teams app. Nicole and gianna, back to you. I have to ask shawn, you spent a little bit of time with jesus. Learning how to call a play for football. Can you give me ad touchdown to get us ready for tonight . No pressure but i want a touchdown. [ laughter ] no, heres the thing. Reporter whether in english or spanish you should not be counting on me to be calling plays. So let him do it and i know you two will do a much better job than me. Were not going to let you go until you pay this off. At least say the word touchdown. Reporter touchdown i wish i could do both hands up but i have to hold the mic. Shawn chitnis, you are such a team player. You are. Even in his most unconfidential state. I am a team player. Always deliver and we can count on you. Thank you, shawn. Check in with you later. Shawn is always a good sport. The niners are just crushing it as a team the year and so great to see the fan base is global. Theyve played in mexico what last year . Mexico city. In that elevation change, i mean talk about a whole other story that we should do on them. I am so excited we are just hours away. Time now 6 09. Its the same script but new hope for a better ending. The possible breakthrough in negotiations between hollywood writers and production studios. Plus we continue to hear the difficult plight of farm workers. Later on we are showcasing the plight of americas farm workers during our special coverage of hispanic heritage month. And heres a live look outside before we head to break. Right to jessica birch in our amazing weather center. And shes going to give us all the details about smoky skies because its a first alert weather day. It is. You can hear it in my voice. We are dealing with some of the worst air quality that weve seen in quite some time here in the bay area. Lets start off with our air quality map behind me and look at all the red dots you see. This is live conditions from purpleair. Com showing unhealthy air quality pretty much in every single local community here in the bay. Now as we head into this afternoon, as winds start getting a little bit gustier, yes, this will slowly improve because what happens is as the winds kick it kind of helps to disperse the smoke. But this morning the winds are calm and the smoke kind of settles. Just along the foothills throughout the valleys the worst air quality right now were going to continue to keep a close eye on this but today a friendly reminder just take it slow and find the indoor activity and drink water and take good care of yourself and your lungs and of course the loved ones lungs too. This afternoon, these temperatures where were at right now in the 0s theyre going to warm up into the 60s along the coast. Were actually going to be seeing 70s and 80s in the inland areas and anywhere from novato north actually were still sitting in the upper 40s lower 50s. A cool start this morning. Later in the afternoon it will be a completely different trend but that air quality still remains to be the big concern for us calling for a first alert weather day today just like yesterday. So when is it going to change . Within the next couple of days heading into this weekend and by early next week, we have a system moving its way in that will change the direction of the winds. Well actually catch a break from the smoke and were right back to normal as we kick off next week. But lets take it a step back. Daytime highs today, well, theyre right around. However the offshore wind especially up in the north. As the winds push offshore match that with the low relative humidity that we currently have up there. The National Weather service is calling for a red flag warning that will extend into the evening hours tonight. Just around 5 00. All throughout the mountains closer to napa and sonoma. Just take it slow in the higher elevated areas. Today is not the day to be burning anything. The offshore winds change directions actually in the next couple of days and this evening alone actually were going to notice a difference too. So were keeping a close eye on that. Now longrange models, lets take a quick look at the globe and whats happening. We have a huge area of low pressure offshore thats going to be moving its way in into our weekend forecast and by next week, tâ– heres a chance f showers as early as monday. Well get to that in just a minute. Lets take a look at the north bay map and all throughout the north bay today were actually sitting in the 70s. 73 actually closer to 78 near napa today and yesterday we were if the low 70s closer to there. Later into this afternoon were going to be warming up in the 60s near San Francisco. South along 101 down into the Santa Clara Valley, 70s are expected for us today with 80s as we head north closer to the east bay. Its a mild day for us temperaturewise. Really thats not the concern for us but really the air quality. Thats the big talk of town right now and i mean widespread throughout the bay area were all feeling it whether we like it or not. Weve been clearing our throat all morning long. Just to do this broadcast. 70s are expected for us throughout the rest of this week and were turning into the 80s as soon as next week just around wednesday for our inland areas. Heres what were looking at for friends closer to the bay. Anywhere from oakland across the bay bridge into San Francisco, 70s are in the forecast for us a chance of showers by next monday. Its light but well keep you updated on that. For now over to you. All right. Thank you. Lets get you rolling only the freeways this morning. A live look of conditions. This is 101 in the south bay. Good morning to our san jose viewers right around 1st street you know its moving along okay for now as we get closer to the 7 00 hour, that will certainly change. And you are going to see a lot busier conditions this evening as well because hey, niners are here. Theyre home home opener tonight taking on the giants at levis stadium and kickoff at 5 15. That means thats right in the heart of drive times so you can see on the map there, 237, 880, 101, levis stadium is nestled inbetween those freeways plus tasman there. Right in front of the stadium its going to be quite busy in and around that area. Not just for niner fans, for anyone trying to get home from work at that time. You can dip out a little maybe earlier and get home in time and watch the game. Public transit a great way to get down to the stadium. You have got caltrain, b. A. R. T. , capital corridor and of course vta is always a really good option in the south bay. Always have extra trains for niner games and concerts. Live look at the golden gate bridge, no fog to slow you down. Visibility looks great as you head into San Francisco. But again it is a spare the air day and consider using Public Transit and maybe if you typically bike or walk to walk or school. Consider using Public Transit because of the smoky and bad air quality we have today. Its going to be busy tonight. The San Francisco Sheriffs Office wants you to be aware of a scam artist. Someone is impersonating a deputy and demanding money. Yeah, and real deputies are making a difference in San Franciscos fentanyl crisis with the Emergency Services unit. San francisco sheriff Paul Miyamoto is joining us this morning to tell us more about this. Good morning, thank you for joining us. We always appreciate it when you come in. Thank you gianna. Always happy to be here. You always bring good information. People are concerned that you are here to sort of relate that information especially with whats been happening with the drug crisis in the fentanyl crisis in San Francisco. Tell us a little bit more about what you guys are doing to help that. Absolutely. We have a commitment to being out there in the Community Every day and we want to make sure that people feel safe out on the streets. So were dealing with people in crisis on daily basis. I myself was out there recently and we try to make sure that streets are safe both in the daytime and in the evening time. We have many different opportunities and open vents happening in the city like Farmers Market which happens every sunday and wednesday. And we want to make sure people feel safe when they go down there. We encounter a lot of people in crisis and try to make sure they follow a path and get the services and resources that will help them. The phone scam artist. I always get randle numbers random texts and i dont know what to believe. You have a warning for us this morning when it comes to that. Yes, recently weve been contacted by the public in regards to calls theyve been receiving from someone claiming to be a deputy. Asking for money to be paid over the phone for fines and citations and things like that. This is completely false. We would never ask for that over the phone. If you are contacted by somebody who claims to be a part of the department, we ask you that contact us immediately at 415 and dont pay anything over the phone. For anybody claiming to be a sheriff. Im glad you are sharing that information because i think they tend to prey especially on our senior citizens. You know, older members of the community. And who might be a little brit more vulnerable to that. So there are also a lot of Public Events on the calendar for you guys this month. You and your deputies, tell us more about what the things that are happening and why its so important to build these bridges and get out there in the community. Its very important. We have a number of Community Engagements coming up. We have fleet week in two weeks. Dreamforce was extremely successful recently for the entire community. And we want to continue that success with keeping people safe. And making sure we have an atmosphere where people feel positivity about San Francisco. Our deputies are out there. In fact you mentioned tonight, San Francisco 49ers are playing. We have deputies that go down there and work at the event for all the games. And we also have that commitment to the city as well. So fleet week as i mentioned is coming up. We have a number of deputies who are veterans or who are members of the reserves or active military and thats an opportunity for us to really put our staff out there to show what paths people can follow after military service. The big question paul, is are you a niners fan . Because its thursday night football. We really need to get that answer. Absolutely. A niners fan and i hope to get to watch some parts of it live. Unfortunately, usually its a tape delay for me and i try my best not to hear what happened before i watch the game. Nobody speak. Exactly. You and your deputies always very, very busy. We do appreciate all the work that you do. Sheriff Paul Miyamoto. Thank you so much for coming in. Thank you. Well, time right now 6 22. A live look outside, levis stadium we were just talking about that. The bay area is pumped for the niners home opener tonight including our sheriff. Why their competition is already coming in a little hurt. Well explain in this mornings red and gold report. And were not just looking in at levis stadium this morning. Vern glenn has more this this mornings red and gold report. Reporter 49ers will take on the new york football giants down at levis stadium, but it wont be brock purdys first primetime appearance this week. I dont think i have changed or anything. George or you know, all the other guys will give me a hard time about some stuff. But you know, for me, i know who i am. Reporter purdys new commercial for toyota debuted this week. He doesnt have any lines and purdy joked they shot all day and only used 30 seconds. Hes also got an endorsement deal with Alaska Airlines and fans wearing purdys jersey at the bay area airports will get priority boarding this season. The giants will be without star running back saquon barkley. He was ruled out with an ankle injury suffered in the Fourth Quarter of new yorks comeback win last sunday in arizona. With the red and gold report, im vern glenn. Its so difficult for both teams entering tonight when it comes to injuries because you are on that short workweek and you really well, you want the player out there. Im on the conservative side. And i say rest. Especially if you are the 49ers. Because even if you are down a couple of guys, you are still going to have the Competitive Edge over the giants. I think especially for a game like tonight, i feel pretty confident were going to be all right. Its the home crowd. Theyre without barkley. So maybe sit him out for one more. You know whos going to be bringing it tonight . The fans. Levis stadium is going to be popping off. Shes getting right back into politics. Right now on cbs news bay area, it is 6 30 and the smoke is just sticking around again today. It is another first alert weather day and its really important to note its also another spare the air day which means you might want to consider limiting Outdoor Activities. Why still dealing with this smoky skies . Well, this is whats causing all the problems. As you see wildfires burning near the california and oregon border. There are three huge complex fires burning in the siskiyou and humboldt counties. Just miles and miles away. So its so amazing how weather can really play into you know, system something thats happening so far away jess, right here in the bay area. With all those smoky skies, any relief as we get closer to the weekend. Absolutely we will but you said it perfect. The weather is playing a huge part in it. Bringing in the terrible, terrible smoky skies for us early this morning alone. So were going to kind of change gears a little bit and talk about a couple of Different Things happing in the bay area. A live look of storms in the sierra tahoe area this morning. If were lucky you might see a lightning strike. But back here in the bay, it has been a hazy start to the morning. To add to that into this afternoon were going to be seeing the hazy skies really stick around. In the Early Morning hours while temperatures are cool like we have right now in the 50s near the Santa Clara Valley, all the way up near redwood city, when were dealing with the cool and calm conditions, the winds are calm too. And that really allows for the smoke to settle from high elevations to lower elevations so if you live along the foothills, i mean, anywhere weir really talking about it in bay area, were going to continue to see this poor air quality into the morning hours. So take it slow. Avoid Outdoor Activities and i know for all the Early Morning runners, this is not the thing that we want to be seeing right now. You can see that live look behind me of the bay bridge. You see that hue actually of just the haze kind of sticking around as the sun starts to rise. Were sitting in the 50s right now near nota slow and lets make a quick look at what we can expect this afternoon. Starting off with the current air quality and what we can expect later today. This is a live look from purpleair. Com of all of the local communities. All that red shows unhealthy air quality around 151 to 200 on that scale. Heading into this afternoon, were going to continue to see the smoke swirl its way in from offshore. Those fires still burning strong and as the winds move its way into our local areas, the air quality is going to stay poor until around tomorrow heading into our excuse me, our saturday forecast. Now daytime highs today, theyre sitting mostly in the 70s throughout the Santa Clara Valley for anyone heading out to the levis stadium for the game this afternoon, for the 49ers, you can expect 70s turning into 60s but still hazy skies so make sure you pack that water bottle and be very, very careful of course. Take good care of the lungs and take care of the loved ones too. More on the forecast in a bit. For now over to you. One of the days jess where the workout might be indoors and maybe run on the treadmill. If youre getting ready to head out the door at least in the vehicle to hop on one of the freeways a live look here at 880. Right around paseo grande and we are already starting to see that extra volume for commuters working your way southbound into that hayward area. Tends to get quite busy heading over to the san mateo bridge. And even south of there as you work your way into fremont. Heres a live look at the city of oakland. You can see that haze out there so if you are walking or biking to school this morning, maybe consider using Public Transit instead. And at the golden gate bridge, pretty quiet heading into the city. Time for a look at this mornings other top stories, former congresswoman Jackie Speier is looking to run for the San Mateo County board of supervisors. She retired from congress in january. If he swings it would actually be her second stint as a county supervisor. Then 18 years in the state legislature. Two other candidates who were in the supervisor race dropped out and endorsed speier. House republicans are accusing attorney general Merrick Garland of weaponizing the department of justice. At a hearing yesterday, the main topics were the prosecutions of former President Donald Trump and of President Bidens son, hunter. Garland testified that no one has told him to indict trump. New fallout over a small School Boards vote to ban special flags on campus including the pride flag. Now dozens of parents and teachers showed up at a lastminute special meeting of the board last night. They say they dont trust that members are working in the best interests of the students. So our Katie Nielsen has been following this since last week and tells us the controversy isnt dying down. Reporter the president of the Sunol Glen School board, ryan jergensen, was flanked by sheriffs deputies as he left the packed cafeteria. The site of the special board meeting. Jergensen was the main backer of a new policy to limit flags at the school. And while he did not want to talk with us, in a Statement Released last week, he said schools need to be a place of inclusion where all students are safe. My concern is that when a School Starts endorsing any particular view that can be divisive, then the school is failing its mission. The district should not be seen as endorsing one view over another. Alysse castro was the first speaker during Public Comment and shes the Alameda County superintendent of schools. Theres some questions about if this meeting is legal and all and im not going to weigh in on those. But the intent of emergency session, the intent of calling 24 hours, is that theres a crisis. Were having a hard time finding that crisis. Reporter sunol glen is a unique district. Only 20 of students are actually from sunol. The other 80 are from surrounding communities and parents choose to send their kids to the school. Im here today as the only elected voice of the 80 of the families who are commuting from other parts of the county who want to make sure that those voices and those perspectives also are raised up. Reporter the flag ban has divided this Small Community in the southern portion of unincorporated Alameda County. Parents showing up in force to raise concerns about the direction the school board is going. One in attendance was erin whose three kids go to sunol glen. She worries the two members of the school board are more interested in bringing politics into the School District instead of focusing on whats in the best interest of the students. As much attention as were getting for this, this is not really how sunol operates. This is a very vocal and honestly powerhungry small minority of people that are trying to push what they want into our school. I am deeply troubled by culture wars coming to the classroom. The more we bring politics in, the less we create those opportunities for joyful learning in the classroom. Time now 6 36. The Federal Reserve trying a new strategy. And opted not to raise Interest Rates again. Cbs News Business analyst Jill Schlesinger is here with more on that decision. And also how the uaw strike could impact the economy. So policies still on the rise especially at the gas pump. Why did the Federal Reserve decide again to not raise rates . Reporter i feel like this is the worst thing to tell people who live in california. But the fed doesnt really care about gas prices right now. I know its really staggering to see that prices have jumped so dramatically. But the fed believes that thats primarily due to russian and Saudi Arabian production cuts and the fed sees that as a temporary issue. If so theyre really focused on the core rate of inflation. Thats the price levels without food and energy. And they are noting that there have been great improvements in the core inflation rate. So for this meeting, they decided to pause. Okay. So im in the house howing market right now. Im looking to buy a home. Jill, do you think the fed is finished with raising rates for the time being . Oh no, look at her face, this isnt good, jill. Reporter im sad. Well, okay. Heres the good news. The fed has driven inflation down from 9 to 3. 7 as measured by the cpi. Thats great. But the fed does target a 2 inflation rate. So even if they dont raise rates anymore, they are likely to have to keep Interest Rates higher for longer in order to push down inflation. Now i know the fed does not control longer term Interest Rates like mortgages. But when all Interest Rates are staying high, that means Mortgage Rates also are likely to stay high. So maybe keep renting for a little bit longer. Sorry. Paying a lot at the pump and overpaying for a home. Lets turn to the strike by the auto workers. How could the continuing work stoppage there affect the economy . Reporter oh boy. I think that there are kind of two issues right now. Lets look at the near term impact and think about this. Theres about 13,000 strikers right now. So where those 13,000 strikers live, those communities, i think they could actually feel a pinch. And heres why. If im a striking worker, im used to getting paid 1,200 a week. When on strike i get paid 500 a week out of the uaws strike fund. If you think about it. If aim seeing a reduction in income im not going to spend as freely in my neighborhood. And that is really where im going to see the most immediate impact. When it comes to the broader economy, this really does depend on how long the strike persists and whether it spreads to involve more workers. The Auto Industry is just a fraction of gdp even if we had 146,000 workers on strike through the end of october, i think there would be a minimal impact on the overall economy and hopefully it doesnt get to that. That both sides can get together and come to a conclusion soon. Cbs News Business analyst Jill Schlesinger, thank you so much for your honesty and advice this morning. Reporter sure. All right. Well, from breakins to hiring struggles to high rents and inflation, San Francisco restaurants are struggling to survive. As a result though, some have actually been raising pryces, but this is good news, at least one is making a point of actually lowering them instead. Lauren toms explains why. Reporter one hour before opening its doors, the team at Che Fico Alimentari races to get ready for the evening ahead. But this week, theyre hoping to see more familiar faces. The restaurant is trying something nearly unheard of in pricey San Francisco. Theyve lowered their prices for both food and wine. We started to see less and less of those familiar faces. And that became a problem to us when we really did start noticing that. A certain segment of the community had been priced out from at least when we opened originally. Reporter the intention is pure. Tapping back into the community of the nopa neighborhood and for coowner david nayfeld, its personal. I walked through the space and i thought to myself how cool would that be if i opened a business like six blocks from where my mom opened her business and my mom still lives like four blocks from here, still like walks here and picks up the produce and everything like that. And Everybody Knows mama galena when she walks through the door. Reporter a difference you can see. Even only by a couple of dollars, nayfeld says the customer will feel it in their pockets. Chopped salad. We have lowered the price on that 6, right . Thats a considerable, you know, kind of cost savings to the guest. And you know, for us, we pun intended we need we eat that because were handing the savings back to our guests. Reporter but its unlikely to be a trend. He says most restaurants dont have the opportunity to scale their menu away from higher cost items in the way alimentari does. Getting rid of pricier proteins and focusing more on pizzas and pastas. At the end of the day, its really, really i think important to continuously evaluate what you do and what you value. Is to the community. Reporter that value is seen through each member of their team. Who wont see cuts to their compensation despite the drop in prices. We would rather shut this restaurant down than lower a single wage or lower the quality of our product. Reporter a welcomed shift for the community who can always expect a seat at their table. Well, at least theres something thats a positive when you go out to eat. You can save little bit of money at that restaurant. Its all about trust. And reliability. When it comes to a good food. Jessica, we trust in you this morning to tell us if were sending the kids outdoors and what type of weather for the rest of the week here. You know, i dont think kids elderly, everybody across the board, nobody should be outside today. If you can possibly avoid any Outdoor Activities i highly suggest it. I know many people work outdoors and kind of hard to do that but take good care of yourself and your loved ones today. If you have a loved one with an outdoor job, just check in on them. Make sure they have the extra water bottle before they head outside today. A hazy one for us once again just like yesterday. Were waking up with the worst air quality weve seen again. Unhealthy conditions widespread throughout the bay area. Throughout the Santa Clara Valley, we have been dealing with some very, very gusty conditions. And some Cool Temperatures too. Now once we head more north, this is what were going to be expecting into this afternoon. Gusty conditions offshore too. But relative humidity is a lot drier so thats actually going to call for a red flag warning that were currently under up in the north bay. Thats closer to areas like napa and sonoma. Thats in a minute. Were currently sitting in the s just near San Francisco and hazy skies as we wake up this morning. Were going to continue to see the hazy skies into this afternoon. Now lets take a quick look at what we can expect heading into this afternoon starting off with the air quality map and whats to come. Like i said still in the unhealthy category widespread throughout the bay area. The smoke from the north as the winds continue to circulate shah into the local communities. Were actually going to see it shift as we head into the weekend forecast and that smoke will slowly dissipate and actually get cad conditions next week. But for now moderate conditions still into earl sunday so keeping a close eye on that widespread throughout the bay area. Heres that red flag warning i was mentioning if you live in the higher elevated areas or up in the mountains, just close napa and sonoma or even closer to the sacramento valley. Anywhere in red we are under a red flag warning with gusty offshore winds in the afternoon hours today. And to add to that, low relative humidity too. We didnt get that food overnight process that we usually get. Now heading into this weekend, things will start to improve especially along the coast. If you want to head out to pacifica, fog fest this weekend. Oh its going to be a blast and i definitely would love to go check this out. Also expecting the clouds kind of Holding Around so hey, living true to the name right . Heres what we have for daytime highs today. Down go france from the north bay, pretty much around average. 70s for us this afternoon there and 60s for the friends closer to San Francisco. Just across the bay bridge, were warming up into the low 70s near the oakland area. All the way into the south bay we go. Throughout the Santa Clara Valley, 70s into this afternoon. With 80s for our friends off near antioch and brentwood and fairfield. Now thats just what were looking at for the daytime highs today. Lets take a quick look at the next seven days. 70s for now slowly turning into 80s as we head into next week. And its interesting right . Because its the first day of fall tomorrow. Yeah, were warming up here in the bay and were going to notice that warmup all throughout bay area. Very gradually but if you live near oakland, San Francisco, or just in the heart of the bay, were also going to see 80s as early as next week with partly cloudy skies in the meantime. Now over to you. All right, thank you. You can see that bay bridge behind jess, the upper deck there. Well give you a different perspective right now checking the roadways and good morning to you. Thank you for joining us. Live look here at the conditions heading towards the toll plaza. Its busy, lot of brake lights and metering lights are on but this is the typical route you know what to expect. No surprises and no accidents or any major issues or no conventions happening in the city that are slowing things down anyway or causing road closures but its busy as you head through there across the upper deck into San Francisco. So do plan for that this morning. Also lets talk about tonight. You got the niners playing at levis stadium. Its a home opener everybody. I know were all super excited and definitely theres going to be a lot of people heading down to the game. A lot of niner fans a sea of red and gold. But its drive times too. So 5 15 kickoff is right when everyone is heading home from work. Definitely start thinking about the plan maybe you can dip out alittle bit early but 101, 237, 880 all going to be very busy tonight. A lot of people 49er fans head down to levis stadium for the game. So maybe consider using Public Transit. You have got a lot of options. Heading down to levis stadium. Capitol corridor, b. A. R. T. , caltrain, vta throughout the south bay. All good choices. But definitely you are heading down early and you are going to tailgate make sure you stake your claim and get your spot and get ready to cheer on the niners tonight as they take on the giants. But other than that, its not too bad on most of the freeways and things are pretty quiet. We are continuing our celebration of hispanic heritage month and right now, we want to focus on the people who work long hours in fields. Picking the fruits and vegetables that we eat. Over all these years we continued to hear the difficulty plight of farm workers. The need to have better housing, better pay. Better access to medical. Increased human rights. Reporter but it took a tragedy to bring broader attention to that effort. The january mass shooting in halfmoon bay exposed the deplorable Living Conditions countless farm workers faced. Were real grateful because Governor Newsom came to halfmoon bay right after the tragedy with the mass shooting. We spoke to him about the conditions of housing here. He saw the images and he saw the photos and he heard the community. Reporter now the Governors Office has announced more than 825 million to build affordable housing, including for farm workers. The buddy games are here and its a brand new show premiering on cbs where groups of deep rooted friends team up to compete in a series of challenges for a very big prize. So i had a chance to chat with actor turned buddy games host josh duhamel about what makes buddy games so unique and how much he spent here in the bay area. I used to live in San Francisco. How about that . Where did you live . Up in the sunset district. 21st and kirkham. Ooh, and you remember the streets. Oh man. I remember it well. Hopefully youll make a visit back sooner than later. And doing something, you know, a little bit more loose like hosting a tv show . We love the idea that it wasnt just about how big and strong and fast you were. Or how, you know, how long you could staff yourself on an island. Really about that Old School Ride or die group of friends that we all have. And how well would they compete against other similar groups . Really about how strong your group is together. How how well do you know each other . What are each others strengths and weaknesses and how do you rise up as a group . Whats the prize . What do people get when they win . You get a prize pony. [ laughter ] every character gets a pony they get to put in the backyard and 250,000. Well. That helps. [ laughter ] i could get along with a lot of people for 250,000. You would take a pony in the backyard for 250,000. I would be the best mom ever to my 4 and 9yearold. Are you kidding me . Oh my god. They would go nuts. Really quick, i can name off my ride or die like this. Chasta, julia, me. Maria. I think we would crush it on the show. Whos your ride or die . I mean, it would be me, bobby hornbacher and chad kelly. Okay. Okay. Well, well take you on some day, josh duhamel. Get a group together, gianna. Maybe next year. Honestly people are going to watch the show and theyre going to be like, you know what . We should get so and so and so and so and we could go win this thing. We could go win it, you know. Theyre going to see themselves in one of these groups. Thats whats so fun about it. Theyre going to want to compete. Well, you had me at the pony. Im in for next year for sure. I feel pressured to go next year. By the way it airs tonight right here on kpix. I feel inspired actually. Do you think the bosses wouldallow you, me, jessica and reed to take it off to compete .
