Reporter buried on page 8 of a 98page sentencing packet is a line in the probation report about the statement brock turner gave to his probation officer. She stated the defendant was untruthful in her testimony about the victim being unconscious. That was from the Santa Clara County prosecutor in charge of turners case. In his statement, turner continued to maintain his actions next to a dumpster on the stanford campus were consensual and that he didnt start drinking until college. Those points were disproven by evidence filings in the case including Text Messages detailing his drug and alcohol use during high school in ohio. The statement about turners lie was ultimately glossed over by a probation officer, who recommended judge aaron persky only sentence the former stanford swimming star to 6 months in county jail which is exactly what was handed down. Judge aaron persky is now the subject of an online recall petition with hundreds of thousands of signatures. 20 potential jurors in perskys courtroom said they couldnt serve on a jury because of the sentence he handed down in turners case. Kpix 5 legal analyst judge Ladoris Cordell says that is unprecedented. I have never heard of potential jurors, people in the jury pool, boycotting a judge. Reporter Santa Clara County public defender molly oneil says the sentence was the right call. This was a rough decision to make for judge persky. But mr. Turner is in fact going to go to jail. He is a convicted felon who will have to register as a sex offender for his entire life. Reporter andria borba, kpix 5. The probation report also recommended that turner never be allowed to have a firearm and classified him as a low to moderate risk for reoffense. Brock turner will likely serve three months. He will be released september 2. The Santa Clara County Sheriffs Office says that inmates typically serve 50 of their sentence if they are on good behavior. Police have released three new pictures as they try to track down the people involved in violence at a trump rally in san jose. Heres a man who allegedly instigated trump supporters. A second man photographed at the rally had a goatee and ponytail. And heres a woman who police say was involved. She was wearing a trump die t shirt. People exchanged blows in front of news cameras last week. Protestors and supporters of donald trump spilled out into the streets of downtown san jose. 7 people accused of fighting at the rally have been arrested so far. A police raid on a North Oakland apartment rescues three teenaged girls from suspected sex traffickers. Reporter Vanessa Russell was the founder of the nonprofit love never fails partnering with two other nonprofits and the state Attorney Generals Office to develop protect, a curriculum to education california schoolchildren about how to identify sex traffickers. The things that a predator might say. Were looking to roll this out to all fifth, seventh, ninth and 11th grade students in california. Reporter russell has already rolled out the program in Shasta County and is in talks with some Bay Area School districts. She hopes it could teach young girls like the ones who were kidnapped about a problem that police say is only growing. Human trafficking is a serious issue. And not just in oakland but across the nation, across the world. And and its cases like this that we have to take seriously to see what are the underlying issues that are going on. Reporter in oakland, Christin Ayers, kpix 5. San Leandro Police are looking for two men who pointed a gun at a 14yearold boy and snatched his puppy monday around 8 30 p. M. As the teen was walking his dog, a 3monthold black german shepherd. They were walking on dayton avenue in san leandro when a car pulled up to them. The man got out and demanded the dog but the boy refused. Then things got more terrifying. Then another guy came up. He was actually armed with a gun pointed it at the boy, gave him no alternative whatsoever other than to give the dog up. The two men got away with the dog in a lightcolored compact car. Thats the only description that police have right now. The boy was not harmed or hurt. San Leandro Police hope that anyone with more information comes forward and helps them reunite the boy with his puppy. It is 4 38 right now. Lets get a check on weather. But Health Officials say they are also concerned for a number of days before and after. Doctors say most cases is caused by eating raw or under cooked poultry meat with cross contamination from other food items. Im surprised because the restaurant is clean.
