The east bay and it could be a while before it all gets fixed. Kpix5s joe vazquez is at the North Concord station thats now become the end of the line for some. Its like a Bermuda Triangle on the tracks, and it continues to perplex the engineers of b. A. R. T. , a mysterious power surge between the North Concord and pittsburgh bay point stations damaged 50 trains last week, one after another forcing b. A. R. T. To suspend all service between the station. Thats really messed up, zapping a train and causing a short circuit. Reporter b. A. R. T. Says they repaired a butch of the cars over the last few days. They are not saying how many but they are saying monday riders will still have to continue to take buses between the stations. Meanwhile, they ran test trains this weekend, some with passengers to accurately replicate the weight of the trains, trying to find out whats causing that spike in voltage. I hope they get it done speedy because we need to get where we got to go, you know. Reporter b. A. R. T. Says it will take months to fix the damaged trains. Separate and apart from that, they would like to restart service between the two stations as soon as possible, but first they have to find out what is making the voltage spike. But since the root cause of this is still a mystery, there is no set timetable for reopening this stretch of tracks from North Concord here to pittsburgh bay point, so it will be a bus bridge this morning and for the rest of b. A. R. T. Riders could be delays related to this problem. Reporting from concord, im joe vazquez, kpix5 news. A drive down highway 17 is growing riskier by the day with car cashes at the highest in a decade. A report shows highway 17 saw three deadly crashes and 171 injury accidents back in 2014. The roadway is famously curvey but now cell phone use and traffic surges are making crashes more common. In 2014 a big rig lost its brakes on the highway and the resulting pileup proved fatal for a 25yearold santa cruz man. Locals who work near the highway know well what happens when people speed on 17. We see the ambulances, we have a helicopter pad right next right down right here and in the last two weeks we have seen two helicopters come with ambulances taking the patients away. A different story in moraga where its becoming hard for some to see the upside of heavy rain because el nino storms have brought the east bay town both a landslide and sinkhole. Signs on august drive warn people three homes simply are not safe to go in. Wet conditions have caused the ground beneath them to slowly erode, distorting walls and foundation. Still just very precarious, obviously, today on sunday we are concerned there may be additional mudslide and we are hoping, praying we dont lose any more of our foundation and if the structure doesnt become any more compromised than it already is. A temporary fix for the sinkhole was covering the area with a tarp but crews did manage to remove the traffic signal pole that dropped inside. Roberta is under the weather. And im on top of it this morning. And you are all over it this morning. We have been following it like a leopard all weekend. You spent the night last night, didnt you . I did. I love this place. Get a break later in the week but right now we are starting with numbers 52 at concord, 49 at livermore and 54 degrees in the city.
