A runaway dump truck crash spilled its load from an overpass south of the 280 101 interchange and somehow, the driver of that truck was able to escape injuries. The truck was heading eastbound on silver avenue about 8 45 yesterday morning when it lost control, hit a car, which hit the front of a house, truck plowed in a a lamp pole then flipped on its side broke a guardrail and then sent construction debris on southbound 101. The truck driver was able to climb out of the windshield as the truck dangles over the freeway. As you can see behind me, the truck is mere inches of going over on to the 101 which would have been a disaster. Believe it or not, nobody on 101 was injured. The driver of the car that was hit on silver avenue was knocked unconscious and is now in the hospital. Southbound 101 reopened around 3 30 yesterday afternoon after crews pulled the truck upright removed the debris and had to replace that guardrail, as well. A proposal to build a new jail in San Francisco will be debated by the board of supervisors today. The Budget Committee will vote whether to accept state grant money to help build a new 240 million facility. The researchers with the jsa institute contend a new jail is not needed. They say jails in San Francisco are half empty and credit city programs that focus on alternatives to incarceration. After hours of debate, the Berkeley City Council voted last night to pass strict sidewalk laws that some say discriminate against the homeless. The law bans people from sleeping in plants or beds, leaving personal belongings in trees, and also tightens existing bans on public urination and defecation. The vice mayor says the rules are meant to help the homeless. All we are asking is for people to obey one little social rule. This is designed to create welcoming sidewalks for everyone. Also included in the new law a plan for the city to build new Public Restrooms downtown and add Storage Units for personal belongings. The United States is about to get more deeply involved in the battle against isis by sending troops to iraq. David martin reports from the pentagon. Reporter about 200 u. S. Special operations troops will be based in the northern iraqi city of irbil from where they will launch raids against isis in both iraq and syria. Testifying before the House Armed Services committee, defense secretary Ashton Carter revealed plans for what he called a targeting force. It is an important capability because it takes advantage of what were good at and it puts everybody on notice in syria that you dont know at night who is going to be coming in the window. Both times, the commandos were brought in to conduct the raids and sent home when it was completed. By basing them inside iraq, carter hopes to increase the frequency of raids capturing isis leaders for interrogation and seizing the information stored on their cell phones and laptops. In our assessment is that this force and operations this force will conduct will provide us additional intelligence that will make our operations much more effective. An isis supporter from lodi has pleaded guilty to trying to provide resources to the group. 22yearold Nicholas Toussaint was arrested near the Canadian Border in march. Federal prosecutors say he tried to travel to syria to help isis. One of the things that this case really does point up is that the danger of isis radicalizing people is a real danger and it can reach individuals anywhere from any background. Police found Surveillance Video of his truck pulling out of a Grocery Store just miles from his job. But since then, no one has seen kohler or his car. We need help. We need help to find my son. Were overwhelmed. We have no idea where to go. Lapd has assigned a special investigator to the case. But right now, they do not suspect foul play. An unusual story out of novato. A squirrel attacked a teacher and a student. It happened at Pleasant Valley elementary school. The critter got into a classroom where it bit the victims. The Marin Humane Society says there have been a number of attacks in one neighborhood in novato and at least 8 victims. Squirrel sneaked into the hallway into the open door and bit the kid and the teacher. No one knows why the squirrels are attacking the kids. One theory, they used to have folks people feeding them. But when she tried to thank him, she learned he had died. As carter evans reports, it was that shock that got her to pay it forward. The mta says 11 bus lines will be rerouted. The e train wont run. The f train will turn into a bus line. And some extra buses and trains will be brought in during the middle of the day. On a good day, muni struggles sometimes to move all these people around. How can we be sure that you have this under control . Its a fair question.
