The humpback whale is a half mile from the Sharp Park Beach parking lot there. Right now, biologists are trying to determine if they can perform a necropsy. Since the whale is still partly in the water it may not be possible. Californians get an f when it comes to cutting water use. Water useful less than 4 in march compared to the same month in 2013. San jose Police Responded late last night saying the man in the video 22yearold Juan Moreno Lopez who tossed something into the bushes as officers got closer. They say they chased lopez on foot into a busy intersection where he, quote, turned towards the officers in a combative manner. Lopez then attempted to attack one officer with a bottle. Lopez continued to resist arrest and officers used physical force to subdue with little effect. He was placed on a guerney due to his continuous violent behavior in a fourpoint restraint. Teri okita reports from idyllwild, california. Reporter the bark beetle feasts on california pines. This 125foot Ponderosa Pine fell victim to an army of beetles. Theres thousands of them and they are very small very tiny beetles. About the size of a grain of rice. But they can do big damage. Huge. Yes. Reporter the tiny pest killed an estimated 800,000 acres of trees last year. Dead stalks are popping up amongst the evergreen landscape, particularly in the forests of central california. Were going to see stands of standing dead red trees this summer. Thats going to increase the fire hazard in an around communities all across the state. Reporter the beetles eat a path through the bark and lay more than 12 million beetle eggs a year. Its hard for forestry experts to keep pace with the problem. The rare days of mountain mist in Southern California do little to help drought conditions. Making it more difficult for tree removal crews to cut down dead pines destroyed by the beetles.
