A shooting scare forced the evacuation of Summit Preparatory Charter High School in redwood city. A code red was issued. Each classroom locked down. Police arrived on the scene and started evacuating the students from the school. Police swept the campus but didnt find the gunman. And in the last hour officials figured out that it was possibly the sound of a nail gun that a student heard not gunshots after hearing the sound the student reported it to a teacher prompting the evacuation. The popping sounds were either coming from a series of balloons that were being popped on campus or construction nail guns and the like around the school. Police are in the process of doing one last sweep before lifting the evacuation. Students will soon be moved back into the classrooms and resume school. A developing story in the north bay where a Home Invasion robbery leads to a fatal shoot out. Kpix 5 has ryan live. Reporter police have this lane blocked off. They say the home hit was a marijuana grow. The house right next to Stacy Mathews place was roped with crime scene tape. A Home Invasion and a shoot out happened at 1 00 a. M. Mathew cannot believe she slept through it. Its scary. I have a fouryearold and a twoyearold. Next door where the shoot out happened, there were also young kids. The homeowners wife and two little kids were in the same house where the dad exchanged gunshots with the three thieves. Police say the homeowner fired in self defense and hit two of the robbers. Police noticed signs of marijuana being grown at the house. It appears that that home was targeted due to the fact that there was large quantities of marijuana being grown there. The homeowner called 911 and said the robbers got away in a silver pick up or suv. A sheriffs deputy noticed the truck at a local kaiser campus leading to a 30 minute stand off in the parking lot. Deputies fired tear gas and took two men who were inside the truck into custody. They found one suspect dead inside the truck. Mathew cannot believe the thieves hit so close to her home. Now shes worried about her 2 kids. Its scary. I mean people acted like its not a big deal. But it kind of is if this kind of stuff is happening over pot. The driver of the pickup truck told police he was a Good Samaritan who was dropping off the two injured suspects. So far police dont buy that story. In santa rosa, ryan, kpix 5. Three cars side by side were completely burned out in a suspicious fire this morning in campbell. Firefighters say they came on scene at 4 00 a. M. To find all three vehicles up in flames. It happened near the intersection of neto drive and bud avenue. Investigators are talking to witnesses and looking at Surveillance Video to identify a suspect. Police arrested a man who allegedly stole 600 from girl scouts selling cookies in san jose. 36yearold cody is suspected of grabbing the cash from a tenyearold selling cookies in front of a Safeway Store yesterday afternoon. Some quick thinking scouts recorded his license plate number helping them find his car and they arrested him. Officers recovered half the stolen money and bought 240 worth of cookies and gave the girls 60 to make up the difference. Thieves carried out a smash and grab at a highend stereo store in San Francisco around 4 00 a. M. On sunday. They backed a pickup truck through the front door with enough speed to send the bulletproof glass flying. According to the owner suspects took pricey stereo components right out of the showroom.
