Were standing live right here at the spot where police discovered the wreckage. It would have taken them some time to fight it had it not been a clue that stretched for a half mile. At the corner of milpitas boulevard and abel road, the scattered debris and wrecked garbage truck tell the story of an earlymorning accident with a bizarre tragic ending. I have seen something similar but its uncommon. Reporter this vehicle collided with another vehicle innocent section. The source of the impact sheared off the truck and tire. Other car took off. Police called it a hitandrun. So how did officers find that other vehicle . Basic police work 101. You see that scrape mark right there in the asphalt . It turns out the other vehicle was dragging its axle and then made a uturn here at milpitas boulevard and drove for half a mile. That led to a cadillac missing a trunk and right wheel. Officers found the car on fire. There was a small fire in the trunk of the vehicle which the officers were able to put out using their fire extinguishers in the police cars. They found a dead female next to the vehicle. Reporter the driver had collapsed outside the car where she was pronounced dead. She was not burned and probably died from her injuries from the crash with the garbage truck. Police are investigating this not as a criminal case but, rather, just a hitandrun accident. Anne when is it coming down . Reporter very, very slowly. It wont be leveled for three months. But check out this pile every red seats here behind me. These were ripped out of the bleachers. They are now on the field and on the way to the dutch. Crews have been working on projects like this for the past four months. Today they are ripping apart the retractable metal bleachers section. The 54yearold stadium is going down one piece at a time. A lot of the furnishings have scattered about the field like old railings and carpeting. They are almost finished with what they call the abatement process. Removing the Hazardous Material first. There was a lot of lead and asbestos in the stadium having been built in the 70s so crews are being careful not to spread toxic chemicals in the air. No flinging the wrecking balls like you see in the movies but more precise equipment because what we want to do is do our best to reduce the dust. Reporter over the next week, they are going to move in 8 to 10 pieces of heavy equipment to start working on the concrete shell at the building starting at the top and working their way down with excavators equipped with cutters, hammers and other precision equipment. Back out here live now in the middle of candlestick park, youre looking at some of the seats. You may remember some of these seats were sold over the past few months. Some of them were given away. I asked crews were werent all of them sold or given away . And they said, basically, it came down to deadlines. There was a labor intensive process. [ screaming ] reporter the transasia plane clipped a taxi and smashed into a highway bridge before plunging into a river below. Were taking them from the water in boats. Crews rescued at least 15 injured passengers but many are still missing. Authorities say most of the people in the front of the plane were killed. Investigators say the pilot called out may day three times but offered no clues as to why the flight was in trouble. This is the second deadly crash for Transasia Airways in less than 7 months. Last july, the same type of turboprop plane crashed killing 48 people as it tried to land in bad weather. The man implicated in the discovery of a dismembered body in San Francisco is now out of jail. Late last night, mark andrus walked free out of the hall of justice with the public defender. Andrus had been arrested last weekend after body parts were found stuffed in a suitcase but prosecutors now say they dont have enough evidence to charge him with murder. Public defender spoke last night. Mr. Andrus is extremely relieved when i told him earlier today that no charges were going to be brought. And so, um, obviously, he wants to get home. The suitcase was found last wednesday outside a Goodwill Store at 11th and mission streets. More human remains were found in a nearby trash can. The d. A. s Spokesman Says prosecutors are still very disturbed by the facts of this case. A move to change californias immunization requirements in schools in response to the measles outbreak. Senators say its time for a new law. Flanked by mothers and babies they announced the legislation. The new law would get rid of the personal belief exemption that allows children who have not received vaccinations to enroll in school. He says its crucial in protecting our health. In too many schools, not enough children are immunized to prevent an outbreak. Our current laws are not Strong Enough to protect them or us. The law would also require parents to be notified of vaccination rates at schools. The minimum rates would be necessary to protect children from an outbreak. Fiery commuter train crash north of new york city killed six people injured more than a dozen others. The metronorth train packed with hundreds of commuters heading out of new york city last night hit an suv killing the driver and several train passengers. Ntsb investigators are looking into that suv was on the tracks examining the signals and the crossings there is. Smoke poured from the train as passengers scrambled for their lives. People are pulling the windows off trying to get out through the emergency windows, screaming, yelling, it was just total panic. This is the deadliest crash in the history of the metro north train. Investigators could be on scene for a week. Another blow to the bay bridge project. A 4 million elevator on the eastern span doesnt work after just a few uses. The glass cab elevator was built to take workers from the base of the tower to the top and to give investors a unique look at the bay. This is one of many problems for the project, which is running over its 6. 4 billion budget. Firefighters raced to put out a fire early this morning at a duplex in san jose. Everyone in the homes made it out safely. Firefighters also had to deal with a downed power line. The fire started around 2 15 on the 200 block of azukar avenue.
