San francisco crews are busy prepping the streets for the massive storm. Their main focus is unclogging the storm drain to keep the streets from flooding but with 2300 catch basins throughout the someday. Authorities are city. Authorities are asking the public for a little bit of help. Asking and soliciting the citizens of San Francisco to help participate in trying to clean the catch basins because thats the number one cause of localized flooding. Authorities say if you need help with clearing a basin. Contact them at 311 to report the problem. Gearing up for high winds and the possibly downed power lines this week. Kpix 5s ryan takeo with a rare look at the utilitys only bay area Training Facility and its lastminute preparations. Reporter pg e crews are getting ready for the upcoming storm which is expected to cause flooding and downed power lines. Anytime you have winds like this yeah potential for lines to come down. Trees to be blown over. Reporter when they go down, well reeloign the workers at pg e to get the power back up. Utilitys meteorologists will deploy line workers starting tomorrow. Were going to forward deploy as many resources as we can to the areas that we anticipate will be hardest hit. In future storms, pg e will have a new tool. When the grid goes down, pg e can plug into the evs, its a power goes out, its battery charged and gives off 120 kilowatts of power. You take the place of a transformer powering up to 100 homes. So were going to start rolling these out throughout the Service Territory now. Well, san joses homeless encampment known as the jungle was cleared out last week but problems still romaine. As kit doe reports, several kiet do reports several fires burned out the old camp and former residents are nearby. Reporter ever since the jumping was shut down five days ago, there have beenup there have been four fires that have broken out inside the 678acre area. The most recent one happened this morning at 4 20. Firefighters found a pile of mattresses, sofa, old clothing and rotten food burning with flames. But san jose fire could not say if these fires were being set by disgruntled former residents of the jungle. About two miles away from the original jungle on story road, this scene is developing. Theyre calling it jungle 2. 0. About 40 people from the old camp came down here next to the Tully Community library and theyve gotten tents, sleeping bags and food donated. What makes this one different is that it has rules. Residents have to stay sober and work at getting their lives back together. Were trying to set up a Model Community where we keep everything clean and we stay quiet. Were you know clean and sober. Them shutting down the single. Solve the problem . It did not. Happening today, east bay mud considers charging more for water. The board is meeting right now to consider a 14 surcharge on all of its water. Its also expected to call for more conservation. This year they will cut water use by more than 12 . The goal for next year is expected to be set at 15 . Also today, Santa Clara County supervisors plan to vote on a proposed living wage ordinance. It would require employers doing business with the county to pay employees at least 19 an hour. Starting in july next year. Contracts with Community Based nonprofits would be exempt from that requirement. San Jose City Council expected to approve a tax on airbnb stays today. The 10 tax ail plies to all airbnb rentals in the city and also legalize the technically prohibited practice of home sharing. Protesters in berkeley are changing tactics now as they continue to protest the Police Killings in new york city and ferguson. The goal is to disrupt transportation and as kpix 5s Michelle Griego reports, in the midst of the demonstration came the miracle of life. Reporter last night, protesters marched on to 80, halting traffic in both directions for several hours. While the freeway was closed, a woman went into labor. Have a female in labor stuck in traffic. Shes going to the lake tahoe. Reporter Emergency Responders were able to navigate through the gridlock and locate the pregnant woman. She was transported to a local hospital. The chp arrested about 150 protesters. They should focus on the people who are out there for the right things and the officers and police should get those people who are looting. Because theyre criminals who are endangering our community. Reporter before those arrests, protesters staged a peaceful sitin at the Berkeley Police department. Even though some wanted to do more. We are and we cant mark easily up that street. We should force our way up that street. Peacefully, peacefully. And let them police us how theyve been. Reporter protesters plan to be back tonight. The baby was born shortly after takeoff today on flight 623. Luckily, a doctor and a nurse on board to help in the delivery at the flight landed at l. A. X.
