Right now, that Massive Wildfire on the western edge of yosemite is 20 contained. There is hope that higher humidity and cooler temperatures in the forecast can help firefighters gain the upper hand. The fire is not just threatening towns and the hetch hetchy reservoir. As bigad shaban reports, its also scaring away tourists. Reporter the blaze actually in Yosemite National park only accounts for about 3 of the park. Youre talking about a park that spans some 750,000 acres. Were about an hour away from the main entrance. Tuolumne city has become a main staging area for firefighters working to attack that blaze. Its now nearly 180,000 acres large. The mopster wildfire that is burning in and around Yosemite National park is making tourism dollars go up in flames. The fire already torched a popular campsite near the park. For decades it had been a summer destination for families. Labor day weekend is a busy tourism weekend. Many campers and visitors are canceling reservations they made months ago. Usually about 5,000 cars visit Yosemite National park each day. But on this labor day, officials estimate that could be cut in half. What can i get you guys . Reporter just days before the busy labor day weekend, Restaurant Owner mary delgado worried the fire would chase away customers but with nearly 4,000 firefighters battling the nearby blaze, delgado has seen an 80 spike in business. Its exciting to see a line out the door with fire trucks line up. We have run out of food several times. Reporter but she knows while she benefits feeding an army of firefighters, other businesses who rely on tourists arent as lucky. Firefighters hope to get a majority of this blaze contained, michelle, over the next couple of days but they tell me that actually parts of this fire could continue to burn on until winter. And, of course, they are looking at the weather patterns for that. How is it impacting the firefight so far . Reporter one of the reasons they are hoping to begin gaining ground especially over the next few days is theyre saying that some of the cooler temperatures were experiencing now combined with that higher humidity will make for more beneficial conditions for firefighters to actually get a handle on this blaze. The driver and the other passenger in the car are recovering at john muir medical center. There was a major collision in livermore this morning. Cars flipped, rolled over and littered the streets with shattered glass on las positas road. Around 7 00 police tried to stop the driver of a stolen glass delivery truck who sped away and hit three other vehicles. He wasnt being chased. He initially didnt try to stop when the officers tried to stop him but then he was driving so erratically, they canceled the chase. And he continued driving and ended up in a collision. Police say at least one person was thrown from the vehicle and five were sent to the hospital with minor injuries. Four cars were totaled. The suspect was arrested. Firefighters are trying to figure out what sparked a house fire in oakland this morning. You can see thick clouds of smoke and flames generating from the home as those flames took over. It happened on 50th avenue near international boulevard. There are no reports of any injuries. Thats because thursday and friday are days where thousands of commuters are heading home or out for the Labor Day Holiday weekend. In fact, aaa expects a 6 increase this weekend in traffic over last year especially with events like the americas cup in san francisco, Critical Mass in san francisco, cal football on saturday and the oakland as playing at home. There could be 3. 9 million californians traveling 50 miles or more away from their homes. So the idea if you are going to it had the roads is to fuel up, add patience and add extra time. Bridge workers are reminding drivers who may not be used to the golden gates all electronic tolls, drivers should not stop at the bridge because there are no longer toll collectors. But even there well see a little sunshine and then tonight well see a return of some patchy fog and just minor changes over the next few days. But as we head in toward the holiday weekend, looks lining changes will come drastically as well see much more cooler air. High pressure is just to the east of us. Low pressure off the coastline so were kind of in between systems right now. But not a bad place to be, just some mild weather a little below average for this time of year and minor changes in the next few days but that, that low begins to drop in. Big changes for the weekend. Around the state 90s into the central valley, 98 fresno, 93 sacramento, in the high country, well, of this dealing with the fire up they have been dealing with the fire up there. Now they are looking for the potential of flash floods there. Flash flood watches are in effect. The bad news is they could get some lightning strikes. There is an advisory for smoke in tuolumne and yosemite. This taken last night from nasa. You can see all the lights from the city. You can see that into san francisco. But you can see the rim fire. Check this out. Well lit, you can see that fireline stretching all the way in toward yosemite. The good news is they are getting some better fire conditions now at least to fight the fire over the next couple of days. We are just hoping they dont get any more lightning strikes. Around the bay today you will see those temperatures in the 80s and 90s inland. 60s at the coastline. 70s and 60s inside the bay. Next couple of days fairly similar. But we are getting ready for the holiday weekend. Of course we have the bay bridge opening up. And we have big changes in the weather. Much cooler weather coming our way just a few more clouds and i think a lot of those temperatures struggle just to get in the 80s. When does summer end .
