Reporter a few accidents out there this morning. The one thats probably impacting the most is westbound 580. We are starting to see a lot of brake lights. Chp is on the scene. Tow trucks trying to get a couple of vehicles that were involved cleared out. Right now we are looking at some heavy traffic currently 580 from the Altamont Pass and 680 right now 20 minutes. You can see where the crash is as you approach the dublin interchange. Elsewhere we are watching another crash. Southbound 680 near washington boulevard. One lane is blocked there at least. A few yellow arrows popping up. Some delays there. Also northbound 101 this morning after oakland road a crash blocking a right lane. So that may cause some traffic if you are heading out of san jose heading north this morning. 20 minutes from the carquinez bridge to the maze. Then east of the bay, 60s and 70s will be common. North of the Golden Gate Bridge, 64 in stinson beach, glen ellen and 70 and up north 71 degrees in cloverdale bested by 73 in saint helena. The prime suspect a Police Academy graduate. The officer was shot to death on Narragansett Court in vallejo. Kpix 5 reporter andria borba spoke to officers about their colleague. Reporter hours after the shooting that left richmond Police Officer gus vegas dead the thin blue line of officers from vallejo and richmond kept a protective watch around his glen cove home. Reporter 4 30age the 15 year veteran of the Richmond Police department was shot multiple times allegedly by the father of his 6yearold grandchild. He puts his life on the line when he does his job during the day. You dont expect him to have to come home and deal with Something Like this. Reporter the suspect, 30 yearold robert vega, who graduated from the same Police Academy in napa as gus, took the boy and fled to fairfield where he was quickly arrested. Honored with a salute hours after the shooting, gus flag draped body was removed from his home. Now everythings changed. Nothing is going to be the same. Reporter gus and his wife sandra werent just caring for 10 kids and also foster parents; they were involved in the nonprofit foster greatness, mentoring children and other families in the Solano County community. Investigators in Solano County are remaining tight lipped about the details of the case. Mainly because there are two agencies involved. Vallejo pd is involved in the crime scene while fairfield is involved at the arrest scene. New details in the Fatal Police Shooting of mario woods. An autopsy report shows the San Francisco man was shot 21 types mostly in the back. Cell phone video captured the deadly encounter last december. The report also reveals woods was on drugs at the time. It shows he had methamphetamine, marijuana antidepressants and cough syrup in his system. Police tried to use beanbag rounds to subdue woods before firing the shots. The report comes days after beyonces super bowl 50 halftime performance. Some of the dancers held up signs saying justice for mario woods. The National Sheriffs association calls that anti police. Today the Law Enforcement group is launching a Wear Blue Campaign honoring four officers from across the United States who died on duty this week. Investigators say Human Remains Found in gilroy are not those of missing teenager sierra lamar. A pg e screw found the skeletal remains crew found the skeletal remains near Gavilan College this week. Sheriffs deputies are not sure of the age or gender of the body but they have clues from the teeth. We do not believe it is sierra lamar based on dental work. There is a gold cap on the body. Thats not something that sierra did not have . That is correct. The remains were found about 20 miles from where the morgan hill teen went missing in 2012. Her body has never been found. A similar story developing in san jose. Thats where the Santa Clara County medical examiner is confirming the skeletal remains were found. Chp officers discovered the remains near moorpark avenue and richmond yesterday and right now they dont know whether they are the remains of a man or a woman. Most of the action is going to take place about a half mile offshore from pillar point which is here behind me and the competition starts at 7 30 a. M. It is called the titans of mavericks contest. A oneday invitationonly event. 24 surfers came from all over the world to take on waves expected to rise above 20 feet today. Now, once it starts, the coast guard will have a perimeter set up around the competition area to keep boaters away. Organizers will be filming the surfing action from the waters nearby and, of course, there will be plenty of choppers overhead. Surfers had 48 hours to get here to Half Moon Bay. Organizers made the call on tuesday. You know, its not us that call mavericks. Mavericks makes the call. We have to wait until the conditions are right and the waves come. Without the waves, were nothing. Reporter nobody though wants a repeat of what happened here in 2010 when spectators lined up on that coastal bluff and were hit with waves. So San Mateo County sheriffs deputies and park rangers will be keeping people off of the bluffs from ocean boulevard in Half Moon Bay all the way to moss beach. And they are going to be setting up several big screens here at the harbor. Anne, it sounds like the surfers are really looking forward to todays competition. Oh, they are really primed for a big showdown today. Thats because a lot of them were actually in hawaii for a contest there that ended up being canceled when they got word that mavericks was on. One thing i definitely want to mention, however, 580 this morning westbound as you approach the dublin interchange, a crash is clearing so thats the good news. However, take a look at how many cars are out there on the roads. We are seeing some improvements however. So again, the good news is, we went from about 26 minutes to 17 minutes out there. So it is in the clearing stages but you are going to see quite a few people trying to take a peek at whats happening on the shoulder of the road. That clash is being cleared. Another crash we are keeping an eye on a little more south, northbound 101 after oakland road crash on the shoulder of the road causing some minor delays. Nothing major out there. But just something i definitely want you to be aware of. And this morning driving on the san mateo bridge, cars on the road but in the green from 880 to u. S. 101. The crime scene has been scrubbed down and winchester boulevards is back open this morning. All thats left to do now is find that hitandrun driver. This all began around midnight when witnesses say a red honda del sol was going northbound on winchester speeding a few blocks north of hamilton avenue. A man on a bike was also traveling in the same direction. This is a fairly well lit section of winchester with brandnew l. E. D. Streetlights. Nonetheless, the del sol hit the man, knocked him off his bicycle and the force of the impact was so severe that the bike broke apart and was 60 yards away. The man died at the scene and the driver took off. This driver knew they hit somebody and they chose to flee the scene instead of remaining on the scene. Reporter what kind of person does that . Right now 17 minutes on 92 from 880 to 101. It will pick up into the next couple of hours so give yourself some extra time. The department of Public Health lifted a warning after traces of a toxin known as domoic acid were to low or undetectable levels. Its been very quiet. This is the time of season where we rely on the crab and on our customers buying it. Reporter commercial crab season is still shut down. But the announcement is an encouraging sign for fishermen wharf restaurants. They have been hurting since the holidays when the fishing ban started. Sales dropped by at least 50 . These crabs have been coming in from the northwest. Fresh crabs this is peoples livelihood. You know . This is what people make their living off of. Reporter at nicks lighthouse its been a tough season. The manager is waiting along with fishermen to find out when commercial boats can head out again. The department of fish wildlife could make that call in a week. We sell crab. We sell seafood. And without that entity, it just means were out one more step that we need to be able to have a restaurant run effectively. Reporter the green light for recreational fishermen means they can head out thursday. But take out the guts before you cook the crab and to boil or steam it instead of frying it. The Internet Radio firm has been struggling providing disappointing earnings a weak forecast ahead for 2016. Its user base active listeners gained about 3 million in the 4th quarter from the prior quarter, down from the earlier. Pandora shares are down on its earnings report. Visa making a big investment in mobile payment firm square. The company taking 10 of square. The second biggest shareholder in the company now. Thats big news for square as its shares will be diving since its ipo in november. Up about 16 in the early going today. Retail sales are up twotenths of a percent in january. That doesnt sound like a lot but it was a fairly decent move up especially when you take out gas prices even higher than that. One day invitationonly event. 24 surfers from all over the world will surf on waves up to 40 feet. Once it starts there will be a perimeter around the competition to keep boaters away. Organizers will be filming the surfing action from the waters nearby. Well have our chopper overhead. Surfers have a little over two days to get here to Half Moon Bay. And organizers made that call on tuesday. You know, its not us that call mavericks. Mavericks makes the call. We have to wait until the conditions are right and the waves come.
