Shot two Police Officers this afternoon. This is where it all started with a traffic stop on washington in fremont. Police say at least two suspects in this white truck backed into the officer, shots were exchanged, and the first officer went down. 10 minutes later we encountered the same suspect on roberts avenue in fremont a short distance away. During that encounter again we exchanged gunfire with the suspect and another officer was injured. Reporter both officers had been taken to a trauma center. A major manhunt is under way for the suspects involved in those two shootings. Anyone within a onemile radius has been asked to shelter in place while officers are out in full force. [ radio chatter ] reporter no one is in custody and the Alameda County Sheriffs Department has taken over the hunt for the suspects. These suspects they say should be considered armed and dangerous. Its a contained area now. We have a shelter in place. We are asking anyone in the neighborhood to call 911 if you see anything so we can immediately respond. Reporter if you live in the area, heres the suspect description. Police and deputies want you to know this and be on the lookout for a 6foottall hispanic man with a San Francisco giants jersey and shorts and that he is bald. The most important element in this is that he is to be considered armed and dangerous. Do not engage him. Immediately call 911 and shelter in place. In the meantime, back out here live i want to show you exactly whats happening behind me. You can see the huge Law Enforcement presence involved in the search. Fremont Police Officers are now being taken out of the actual manhunt. They are dealing with the shooting situation. Alameda county deputies are in charge of the manhunt. Well n bring you the latest live coming up. We saw some of the video of the manpower being thrown at this. Its multiple agencies. Gives us a sense. Size of the search. At 5 00 i saw them using a drone. Reporter yes. They have a drone. They have a helicopter. They have tactical weapons. They have multiple officers. There are agencies from all over the east bay several agencies from the peninsula that are involved. When Something Like this happens, when there are two Law Enforcement officers down, every Law Enforcement agency is going to step up to the plate to try and help. They say there are hundreds of people here. So this is something thats certainly not being taken lightly. As far as all the different agencies, the number of agencies, these people are still showing up. So we dont have a set number on that. But its all hands on deck here. But again, we know the condition of one officer but not the other . Well, no. We know the condition of both officers. The officer who was shot first in the traffic stop was shot once. He has one year on the force. He currently in critical condition. The second officer who is involved in the second shooting is in stable condition. So our thoughts and prayers go out to those officers and their families. Thank you. Now to betty yu who is live in the neighborhood thats unlockdown tonight. Betty. Reporter thats under lock down tonight. Betty. Reporter theres a very intense search going on now for at least one suspect. We are about two blocks away from where those shootings happened. And i can tell you, i can hear the buzz from the county helicopters above me, and behind me, we are outside an apartment complex thats partially roped off now for this sea. Hayward Police Department is here on scene with their s. W. A. T. Team and they are assisting Fremont Police and the Alameda County Sheriffs Department and chp and it appears that they are going door to door for this search. I just spoke to a young woman who stopped by this afternoon to visit her grandmother, who lives in that apartment building. Take a listen. And i just saw cops and helicopters everywhere. I didnt know what was going on, honestly. I get to my grandmas house and knocked on her door, told her to get out. Here we are. Reporter so as you just heard, some people are being told to get out of their apartments as these Law Enforcement officers go to each residence and other people not too far from this apartment complex have been told to stay indoors and i did speak to some residents who were told to be inside for about two hours. They just came out of their apartments and, you know, understandably very shaken up by all of this. This is normally a very quiet neighborhood. So its very unusual for them to see this kind of police activity. Back to you. All right. Betty yu, thanks very much from a neighborhood on lockdown. This is live look at san jose Regional Medical center. This is where we believe both of the wounded officers have been taken. That first officer shot once, he is in surgery in critical condition. The detective involved in the second shooting was hit twice. He is in stable condition. Were monitoring that suspect search of course in fremont. Well get you more updates as soon as they come to us. Switching ago, the democratic race is tightening here in california. According to a new wall street journal poll, Hillary Clinton leads Bernie Sanders by just 2 points well within the margin of error. This evening, sanders will hold a rally at ucdavis about 20 miles from where donald trump is holding his rally. The stop comes after sanders spoke to thousands in palo alto. Kpix 5 reporter len ramirez was there. Reporter it was a very busy day for senator Bernie Sanders here in palo alto today. [ applause and cheers ] reporter the speech left people feeling the burn after waiting for hours under a blazing sun. It was one of two Campaign Appearances in palo alto. Earlier he met with Asian American leaders in a town hall style meeting in the gym. In my oneonone interview with sanders, he pledged to take his fight all the way to the convention and hopes beyond. I believe that a number of superdelegates are going to take a hard look at reality and that is poll after poll, national polls, vermont polls, state polls all over the country, show that i run much stronger against donald trump than does Hillary Clinton. Reporter tonight the Sanders Campaign moves on to sacramento. Meantime, donald trump is planning a visit to san jose tomorrow. In palo alto, len ramirez, kpix 5. And speaking of donald trump, he is holding a rally in less than an hour. Christin ayers is there and well check back in with her in sacramento in just a little bit. Now, we live in the tech capital of the world. There are cameras practically everywhere, except on Police Officers in San Francisco. New at 6 00, kpix 5s Mike Sugerman explains why that is about to change. Mike. Reporter well, liz, the Police Commission is meeting right now at San Francisco city hall. You know, we have been talking about this for a year and then the man who was a big backer of this got fired last month. But tonight, were expecting a final vote on body cameras for Police Officers. [ pause ] [ Reporter Police body cameras can capture some incredible drama. But here in the center of the land of technology, the drama has been whether police should have such technology on their bodies. Theres a lot of work done on this over many, many months. And under the direction of chief suhr at that time. Reporter chief greg suhr is gone. But the issue is finally coming to a vote. I think the Police Commission should approve this agreement. Reporter top union boss Marty Halloran didnt like the idea originally. He wanted cops to be able to look at the video before making statements. But others like the San Francisco Public Defenders Office thought that would defeat the point of such cameras. All of the eyewitness experts say that when a witness including an officer is allowed to look at a video before making a statement, it affects what they say. Reporter a body camera like this one is a video eyewitness. There are problems with it, but it doesnt have a faulty memory. The argument is that if an officer sees what the camera saw, he or she could change their story to fit the facts. When an officer is involved in a shooting, his or her status shifts from a witness to somebody potentially have motive to Say Something different than what happened. And so you want to capture what their independent recollection is. Reporter the unions always said why not let the cops see what happened on video . Thats what most departments do. We are following models from other jurisdictions that afford the officers to view all footage before they give an initial statement. Reporter this week, the union compromised said, okay, cops will give a brief statement before looking at the video. Get a chance to see the footage before a full interview. Thats whats on the table tonight. And it appears the Police Commission will go along. And if they do vote for cameras, those cameras could be on Police Officers in San Francisco by the end of july. Kpix 5s john ramos shows us a Homeowners Association thats telling their neighbors to go green or pay up. Reporter today was the deadline for residents of the gated community of blackhawk to get rid of their brown lawns. The Homeowners Association ordered that because of the winter rain, it was time to restore, quote, beautiful landscaping to the development. So we asked their water provider what they thought of that idea. Were still very much encouraging customers to keep mindful of the drought that we just experienced. Reporter wait, what . Did she just refer to the drought in the past tense . From your standpoint, is the drought over . For east bay m. U. D. Has ended its drought, we are now listed as [ indiscernible ] reporter it turns out thats happening all over the bay area. As water districts take stock of their supplies, they are removing most mandatory cutbacks and surcharges. Most antiwaste rules are now permanent such as requiring a shutoff valve on hoses and not allowing water to run into the street. But the conservation goals are going away which has some in fact public feeling a bit nervous about the future. If thats true, then i would love to wash my car and stuff and water the lawn but i would rather be careful and and still conserve. Reporter at the contra costa water district, they say that reaction is evidence that people have truly changed their water wasting ways. They dont about back to that. I think every drought we learn something about our own personal water use and we make permanent changes in the way that were using water. Reporter so if the residents of blackhawk want to replant their lawns, they are free do so. Conserving water is now up to each persons conscience. And their own sense of optimism about the weather to come. In blackhawk, john ramos, kpix 5. Reporter warriors and cavaliers were on the oracle arena floor for two hours today. No salvos were fired, although there was plenty of chatter on which mvp is the man i think it might be easier for the fan to relate to steph because its hard to be 68, 260 and have a 40 runup to be the fast guy on the floor. Talk about rivalries, carolina dukes and michigan. Its hard to say lebron and steph. Theres a smaller scale or another word for rival. Its annoying for thats not what im playing for to be the face of the nba to this or that or to take lebrons throne or whatever. Reporter but this is not a oneonone final. Its five on five. Both teams at full strength. They are obviously a better team. But weve always felt that if we play our brand of basketball, go out and do the things that we know that it takes to win, we dont really care who anyone else puts on the floor. A lot of hey, remember me from like the fourth or fifth grade . Could i get an extra ticket . Some of that. Yeah. If i had 80 tickets for the game, there was probably 10 good jobs and 70 hey, um, you got any extra tickets for thursday, let me know. Reporter dennis, i get it. We live in the bay area so the general good feeling about the warriors tomorrow night. Lebron james says just rolling the ball out, lets go play, forget about the stats. But vegas loves the dubs a 5. 5point favorite to take game one tomorrow night. Thats it from oracle. Dennis, back to you in studio. Thanks, vern. You know that Oklahoma City was one win away from the finals. Instead they began their Summer Vacation worrying about the future of kevin durant, who will be a free agent. But Thunder Center steven adams doesnt plan to get involved in the recruiting process. Thunder now a 22yearold center that can do everything and just going to keep getting better. Do you have a sense of how valuable you have become to this franchise . No when you put like that [ laughter ] you should [ inaudible ] sounds like an infomercial. Im real low on the totem pole. Im lucky enough to get a number. The sharks sean me and a big League Career had more potholes than van ness avenue. Manaea fixed his. Ill be here all week. Manaea e. R. A. 11. 37 after several starts, he had a career 8 strikeouts. A solo shot to left. 419 feet. First homer of the year for smolen ski. The as beat the twins 51. They have won 5 straight now. Bad news for the giants hunter pence pulled up lame running to first base the same hamstring that had been bothering him. He will likely end up on the dl. The giants lead the braves 43 right now late in the game. French open, one word to describe Serena Williams today, overpowering. She needed about an hour to beat her opponent in straight sets to advance to the quarterfinals. Another major in her future i think. I tell you what. Got paul fired up. Have a good night.
