Kpix 5s len ramirez found out that they have no plans to take down the gate. Reporter thats right. And those fees are adding up or the finds are adding up. 11,000 a day for every day that this gate is kept locked. As you can see today, it is locked unless you have the expensive key. One day after a deadline to demolish the lock and gated entrance to privates beach in santa cruz nothing has changed. You still need a special key to get in. And gatekeepers have no plan to change. Very nice. Reporter he calls himself a gate ambassador but he was called a guard and they are supposed to comply with the California Coastal act to ensure beach access to the public. Im like a bodyguard not letting anyone come n thats not they dont know privates if they are saying that. Reporter privates was established in 1941 as semiprivate beach for the locals. Today a Neighborhood Association manages the gate, a small park and staircase to the beach to pay for upkeep and repairs, the association sells electron key cards for 50 for neighbors, 100 for everyone else at a local surf shop. Its good because it keeps out the riffraff. Reporter neighbors like mike dewitt say the beach is safe for families but it could become a problem again as it was in the 90s when the gate was not locked. Youre going to get the party revelers down here drinking beer and smashing their glass bottles. The majority of the public comes for a really good reason. Reporter Bonnie Peterson says those fears are overblown. In my heart, i just feel that the public has a right to come to the ocean and come to the beach. And, um, if theres a way to make it accessible to the public then im in favor of that. What locals are saying, we dont have any official word, but the what the locals are saying is they would like to have this open with some sort of a pay as you go type thing so there wont be a key per se but maybe somebody here collecting money especially on the popular days like the 4th of july weekend. We are starting tonight starting tonight, caltrans is closing one lane of the upper deck to repair a pothole. It opened up last night in the area just beyond the toll plaza. Three feet wide but more significant, it went all the way through the bridge deck. So we knew that were looking at fairly serious repairs. Its unclear what caused the pothole. Caltrans says it could be just normal wear and tear on the 60 yearold bridge. Tonights repairs will go from 8 p. M. To 8 a. M. Tomorrow and sunday night. Its from 9 p. M. To 9 a. M. San Francisco Police say they have nabbed a couple of men who pulled off an elaborate jewelry heist. New Surveillance Video shows one of the suspects smashing the dis display cases at the union jewelry store. They stole 2 million in jewels. Police say it was more like 50,000. 500,000. This week, two sharp eyed officers spotted them. Officers recovered some of the stoleitems during the arrest. Police are asking witnesses to come forward after a 6year old boy was hit and killed in a south bay mall parking lot. Aniket gadre was walking with his mother and sister at oakridge mall in san jose last night at 9 30. He was holding his mothers hand when a mercedes driver hit them at a slow speed. The boy died at the hospital. His mother was also hurt. Obviously a very traumatic situation very tragic situation. And our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and all those affected. Police will be looking at surveillance images from the area to try to pinpoint exactly what led to that accident. The driver is cooperating with police. They say drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors. A Police Officer in livermore is the latest to get swept up in a Bay Area Police sex scandal. He was just put on administrative leave. At the center of the scandal is an 18yearold prostitute who goes by the name of celeste guap. She has come forward to say she had sex with more than 30 officers and in some cases when she was only 17. The accused men include officers in oakland, San Francisco and richmond. And just yesterday, a Contra Costa County sheriffs deputy resigned after being implicated. Take a live look now over the socalled trailhead fire. Its burning in placer and el dorado counties. Mayor ed lee says this is a reason to celebrate. We all feel for working people because its hard in our expensive city to survive unless you have a decent wage. Reporter thanks to proposition j, something San Francisco voters approved in 2014, minimum wage in San Francisco is on its way to being 15 an hour. Paul a home care worker will directly benefit from the raise. 15 an hour minimum wage increase will surely ongoingly help me through my endeavors. Reporter this person owns a business in the ferry building. She is okay with the minimum wage being raised but says this increase doesnt affect her business. Yeah, i think its fine. San francisco is an expensive place to live. And we have always started people above the minimum wage anyway. Our economy is doing well so im not sure who its going to affect negatively. Reporter critics argue that higher wages may force businesses to increase the cost of their products, give workers less hours, or even lay some people off. Attorney general Loretta Lynch is bowing to pressure. She said she will let career prosecutors make recommendations on any criminal charges in the Hillary Clinton email investigation. This comes after lynch had a private meeting with president bill clinton on a jet at the phoenix airport. Lynch says it was innocent. But gop leaders say the private conversation compromised the integrity of the fbi investigation and lynch should recuse herself. Today lynch said she regrets what happened. Lynch says her decision not to have the final say is not a recusal, meaning she will be briefed after the investigation. However he says it has gone up in the last year and with the passage or enacting of the new law he hopes rates in the county and state continue to rise. The battle has gone on for months but today marks the end of it. No matter the protests. I have a grandmother who had polio so i understand what happens when people dont have vaccines. These are critical. Reporter but they are plenty of mothers who feel otherwise. Some parents have even turned to homeschooling to get around the requirement. Four doings trapped in a singing vehicle were saved by four dogs trapped in a sinking vehicle were saved by a Animal Control Office near skaggs island. The two people inside were able to get out as well but the dogs were trapped. Solano county Animal Control Officer mark garcia jumped into the water to save the pups. Were learning new details about the first fatal crash involving a selfdriving car. Joshua brown had posted several videos on youtube showing off his teslas autopilot feature. He was killed in may when the cars cameras failed to see a tractortrailer turning in front of him. After the crash, the truck driver says he looked into the car and believes the tesla driver was watching a harry potter movie when the crash happened. He also says brown was driving so fast, he didnt see him slide under the trailer. Driving records show brown had been cited for speeding eight times in six years. Now the fda has approved the first and only drug to help dogs with that problem. A gel that is administered in the mouth. Dr. Yarnell suggests owners try comforting their pets before turning to medication. One thing i would recommend if your dog has a serious noise aversion tendency, is probably to stay with the animal.
