You know, police and protestors have left the area. But at one point there were hundreds out here. It was more and more tense as the afternoon went on. Our cameras even caught in the middle of a fight. [ yelling ] reporter donald trump protestors tore apart metal barriers. Pushing closer and closer to the Hyatt Regency as police in riot gear stood their ground. [ screaming ] reporter it was after trump took the stage when scuffles broke out between a small group of supporters and protestors. [ screaming ] reporter our crew caught in the middle. But the protest began peaceful hours before trump arrived with the crowd staying behind the metal railing. Then they quickly made it clear they would not welcome trump supporters. They chased this man backing him into the railing where he was forced to jump over bushes toward waiting police. At one point they formed a human barricade keeping traffic from getting in and out of the hotel. What is this accomplishing . Its showing people who cant do this that were out here to support them. Reporter youre willing to get arrested to do this . Yes, we are. Reporter the secret service escorted a demonstrator out of the hotel who was able to get inside by getting a room. [ screaming ] reporter but the protest took a turn when the crowd jumped the barriers and toward the end trans. Toward the entrance. As the crowd dwindled when they lened that trump had already left, they burned an american flag. Reporter Police Arrested five people and one person was hurt. All right, maria medina, thank you. As she mentioned, most of the protestors outside. But a few protestors did go inside the hyatt hotel. In fact, here in the atrium where im standing protestors unfurled a giant yellow banner over the front of the balconies here actually facing out of the big atrium windows and it spans more than 3 stories tall overlooks the front of the hotel and the message, stop hate. Kpix 5 political analyst melissa caen joining me now. You know, you were talking to me earlier that this had a different tone and your take on it was this is not was not a trump rally of this is a convention, a political convention. Reporter thats right. He wasnt as bombastic as usual. He wasnt throwing as much red meat as he often does because this was a fancy dinner. Not all people were supporters. He took his cues from the audience. He hit all the points. He definitely dialed it back. But he also did manage to call a few people some names. He actually pulled out the same names we have heard before. Reporter he is back to lyin ted and crooked hillary as expected. But again, he really sort of didnt harp too much on the immigration issue like he did down in orange county. We didnt see that kind of rallying at this event. Clearly the protestors in front of the hotel immigration was the key issue for them. Reporter absolutely. He did mention it, but he didnt focus on it like in southern california. Look, today his big goal had to be to convince the california gop that it would be okay if he was their nominee. He spent a lot of time talked about unity. He did. Unity and how he can beat hillary clinton. Getting over the doubts about whether he could do well in a general election. He said lets come together. I can beat hillary. And well see whether it works. But he did not admit to shooting his mother. In a separate confession, 17 yearold Omar Golamrabbi said he was there when his brother committed both murders. Both brothers are now being charged as adults with double homicide. Golam and shamima rabbi were murdered inside their home by their two sons on saturday, april 23rd. Golam was shot more than a dozen times. Shamima was shot once in the head. Reporter detectives were photographed removing wall materials from inside the familys home with written messages including, sorry my first kill was clumsy.
