Reporter Chris Humphrey was at the head of the crash. The chp says there were five cars caught in it. They all moved off the freeway. I dont know if i can open this. I havent tried. Reporter dar lin was fourth in line. He didnt see it and smashed in to me. Reporter she said she studied up on the bridges changes. I did research and read a month ahead of time. Reporter she preps for the smaller inside lanes the lower speed limit and the tweaked approaches. I did homework and i still failed. [ laughter ] reporter the chp doesnt think the median impacted the crash. The driver in front of chris apparently stopped to watch a tow truck working on the other side. But darlin thinks the new median did complicate things. I think its a distraction. Reporter driver s will have to get used to it. Besides being shifted between rush hours, these barriers arent going anywhere. As for being apart of the first crash since the bridges reopening these two tried to take it in stride. Theres a tieup getting on to the bridge, doyle drive, but once you get on its pretty clear and smooth. Theyre going 45 miles per hour, the speed limit and there doesnt seem to be any problems like there might have been earlier today. Weve had no accidents, no stalls no nothing. You can get a sense at how violent the collision was. The Pittsburgh Police officer was responding with emergency lights and siren when he smashed in to another car on loveridge road. Force of the impact sent both cars in to other vehicles including a motorcycle. One driver had to be cut out of the car. In all five people were sent to local hospitals. The extent of the injuries not known. Meantime san leandro Police Officer is recovering after slamming in to a cement piling. It happened overnight on the northbound 880 ramp. Police say the officer was trying to stop a vehicle for having no license plates. That suspect is still on the loose. Hes one of the biggest power players in california politics but tonight gavin newsom says he wont be joining the race for barbara boxers senate seat. Newsom made the announcement on his Facebook Page today saying its always better to be candid than coy. Hes humbled by the encouragement but that his family and unfinished work remains in california. Swaulwell was only just sworn in for his second term in congress. 2600 Mental Health workers began a weeklong strike today. They include psychologists therapists and social workers. Their union claims kaiser has been under staffing for years. It also claims kaiser has not budged on its position after four bargaining sessions last week. Kaiser wants to bring the standards down in terms of salary and benefits and want to bring the productivity up and basically want to create a sweat shop mentality in the Healthcare System they run. Kaiser says the union has been using quote, intimidation and obstructionism and that the strike is a ploy for higher salary. Hackers claiming to represent the Islamist Militant Group isis have hacked the social media site. They breached both the central commands twitter feed and youtube channel. It has not been easy but the second climber has finally made it past a very difficult part of el cap. It took a long time. And several attempts. But 30yearold Kevin Jorgeson of santa rosa finally completed the most difficult part of the climb. Now hell be able to catch up with his partner who made it past that difficult stretch last week. Reporter after a weeklong battle with el capitans razor thin ledges, 30yearold Kevin Jorgeson conquered pitch 15 over the weekend. Its considered one of the toughest sections of the climb. Over the course of seven days i made 11 tries and finally did it. And this is a view that ill always remember but im not sad to be moving past. Reporter his partner Tommy Caldwell made it past pitch 15 last weekend and has been waiting for kevin to catch up with him at a section called wino tower. The men are hoping to complete the first ever free climb of the dawn wall route using only their hands and feet to scale a practically flat surface higher than two empire state buildings stacked on top of each other. The ropes and gear dont help them reach the top. Theyre simply a protective measure. The two began their assent more than two weeks ago but have been trying to conquer this climb for much longer. Its taken them years of choreographing the move, getting Strong Enough to do each of these moves and sort of getting them down to muscle memory. Reporter sunday was a day of rest for both men. Today kevin will start working his way to tommy at wino tower. If all goes well, the men are reunited. They could reach the summit and the history books by wednesday night. We got a photo of the supply team getting ready to bring necessities to the climbers. They include food, water batteries, and whiskey by the way, which the climbers said was at dangerously low levels. Jorgeson fell 11 times during his attempt to climb that dangerous 15th pitch. It was very difficult. But of course climbing ropes kept him from plunging all the way to the ground. Well be monitoring their progress the next couple of days. Brave souls. I dont know about whiskey and climbing. Tommy caldwell actually lost part of his finger in a Home Construction accident so hes climbing basically with nine. Crazy. Julie watts with one couple who says two years later they still dont know who has their tax return. Reporter their wedding day was pictureperfect. But filing their joint taxes for the first time at this seasonal H R Block Office was anything but. Weve been dealing with this for about two years now. Reporter carrie and her wife blame h r blocks seasonal staff for their missing 2013 tax refund. When it hadnt arrived by july of that year they tried to reach out to their tax preparer. The office had closed. Reporter like many at h r block, they worked with a seasonal contractor. They say they were bounced between Call Center Reps and other offices until their Seasonal Office reopened the following tax season. They just kept on passing the buck basically. Reporter eventually a new Seasonal Employee discovered their refund had been deposited in to an account at an entirely different bank. Before he could fix it then he leaves. The longer you wait, obviously the harder it is to recover that money. Reporter daniel from the Franchise Tax board says hes surprised its taken r r block this long but said theres no need to necessarily avoid seasonal tax preparers. Most of these people will be using software thats so good these days, it does catch a lot of the errors. Reporter but he says its imperative you check every number for accuracy. In a statement, h r block said it is sorry for any delay. Its working with the client and it stands firmly behind its satisfaction guarantee. But the cartermccoys arent satisfied. While h r block is refunding their filing fees, it wont refund their peace of mind interest or pay interest on the missing return. Somebody has been holding on to this money for two and a half years. H r block says its peace of mind service and Interest Payments only apply if youre audited. It says theres no information client information was ever at risk, it cant say whose account im ken bastida and the kpix 5 news room.
