Track. In san jose it took only a few minutes for firefighters to snuff out flames in a pile of scrap. It all went down at the megametals and iron company on stone avenue. Workers there had to evacuate for a bit. But then they got back to work. The cause is under investigation. And meteorologist paul deanno tells us fire danger will be high this weekend, right, paul . Reporter it is going to be high. Its going to be high for the foreseeable future. Were in our dry season, did not receive much rainfall for the entire winter or our wet season and days like today where the montgomery drops and the sun comes out for everybody, that fire danger gets elevated. We have live neighborhood weather in san rafael near that fire zone today. Mary silveri Elementary School where today was breezy, not windy, with gusts between 10 to 20 Miles Per Hour and currently its very comfortable but that fire danger is very elevated. Other winds around the bay area on average, 10 to 20 Miles Per Hour. The breeze is never good when youre talking about high fire danger. The west wind is grabbing some of the humidity from the cool Pacific Ocean so thats good news there. A north or east wind would be a problem. A west wind although not good is a little better. First police raided a warehouse in Mountain View where they found 800 pounds of marijuana. Then two homes in san jose busted connected to the warehouse. Police found weapons and meth and three people who are under arrest. They are also facing felony child endangerment charges because a toddler was living in one of the homes. Child protective services has the toddler. A federal grand jury in San Francisco indicted ryan chamberlain. He is the guy the feds say was making bombs in his russian hill apartment. The same one who led police on a threeday manhunt. Tonight chamberlain is charged with possession of a destructive device as well as a firearm with a serial number removed. The fbi claims that he had a bomb nearly ready to go. Chamberlain was arrested earlier this month. Three days after fbi agents raided his apartment. We heard today from former dodgers owner frank mccourt. He testified in the bryan stow civil trial. He was questioned about security at Dodger Stadium the day dodger fans brutally attacked stow in the parking lot. He said he had no idea the lights hadnt been upgraded in 30 years. He also said while he was owner, he never cut the security staff or its funding. After he testified he said this my thoughts and and my prayers, uhm, continue to go out to mr. Stow and to his family. Bryan stow was not in court today. He and his family are suing mccourt and the dodgers for tens of millions of dollars for the attack that left him permanently injured. Drivers made their voices heard about the planned closure of a major milpitas street. Fta was going to shut down Dixon Landing road for eight months for bart construction. It may be postponed but len ramirez tells us its not all good news for drivers. Len . Ro. Reporter veronica drivers in this particular neighborhood know about those problems. Im standing on Dixon Landing road one of the hot spots in the barttosan jose project. This intersection has it all, road and lean closures, heavy traffic and bush lane lane closures and traffic and businesses that say they have to close down. It will eventually fast track commuters but two years into construction they are stuck in the slow lane. Normally five minutes to school, now its 15. Reporter construction brought lanes to a trickle. Lanes are shut down in both directions crossing the bart route often at the same time. This man has to wait or drive around. Its pretty crazy in the morning. Reporter things are so bad drivers avoid the area and thats hurting businesses where it counts. [ indiscernible ] before they stopped construction then they closed the roads and people they are not coming in like they used to. Reporter three restaurants in this strip mall on mill month drive say business is down significantly since construction began but it hit joe the greek cafe the worst. The owner says construction is not the only factor but its at least half the reason its shutting down tomorrow. I have been here for 13 years. Whoa. And this is very bad. We have been as accommodating as possible. Reporter the Valley Transportation Authority which manages the project says it staggered closures and worked to lessen the impact but says some disruptions will happen. It is impossible to construct a 10mile project that crosses 11 major intersections and not have some impact on the existing traffic. Reporter the owners of the cafe wont be around to see the project finished. They have already said their goodbyes. I feel like losing cheers, so sad. Reporter the Valley Transportation Authority said the decision to postpone the closure of Dixon Landing road for eight months has nothing to do with neighborhood concerns and complaints. They say it is simply a permitting process with the city of milpitas and they expect that to be worked out shortly. Live in milpitas, len ramirez, kpix 5. The project still has a few more years to go. It is supposed to be finished in 2018. Well, the clock is ticking for muni and its drivers to make a deal but dont hold your breath. The union is less than pleased with managements latest offer. Yes, there is a raise. But drivers would have to contribute to their pension plans. They treated every other local union with a real swap. We are saying give us a real even swap and a simple raise like every other City Employee just got, then we can put this thing to bed. So there is a wage impact, but i believe its more than offset by a retirement benefit and thats why i think every other labor union in the city has agreed to do this. The deadline is sunday. If there is no deal by then the existing contract rolls over at the beginning of july. No word on what happens if the deal doesnt get done. We have already seen a sickout by muni drivers. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is teaming up with californias republican governor nomine neel kashkari. They stopped at a flower shop warehouse on 7th street this morning. Christie followed that up by a 10,000 per plate fundraiser for the republican governors association. Christie says he is living proof that republicans can win an upset victory in usually blue states. So his job is to reach out to democrats and independents. We need leadership in california. When asked about Texas Governor rick perrys comments earlier this week about homosexuality, christie completely disavowed the remarks saying, they were wrong. President obama is weighing his options in iraq but he is clear on one thing. Listen to what he had to say. We will not be sending u. S. Troops back into combat in iraq, but i have asked my National Security team to prepare a range of other options that could help support iraqs security forces. Militant group known as isis has been on the attack taking over towns in Northern Iraq. They captured two more cities just outside of baghdad. The president emphasized that even with u. S. Assistance, iraqi leaders have to get their act together. Iraqs leaders have to demonstrate a willingness to make hard decisions and compromises on behalf of iraqi people in order to bring the country together. Iraqs leadership is paralyzed. Sunnis dont trust the shiites who dont trust the kurds. The president s decision could take several days. Tonight Bowe Bergdahl is in san antonio, texas. He arrived overnight at an army medical center. Bergdahl will receive mental and medical treatment after being held for five years by the taliban. We still have not heard what caused a mobile home fire that killed a man in unincorporated hayward. Fire was burning strong when firefighters got to the home on Fuchsia Court about 3 00 in the morning. They smashed through the locked front door, thats when they found the man. Neighbors say he was in his 50s. Other bay area headlines, a young guy looks like a teenager was killed in san jose last night after what sounds like a huge fight on south 12th street. The fight ended in gunfire. Witnesses say a dozen people were involved. They were beating each other with baseball bats and shovels. Rohnert park teenager postponed his plea in court today on charges of using a stolen credit card to rented a 240,000 car. The delay gives prosecutors more time they say to file additional charges. Those other charges may relate to the fraudulent rental of two luxury vacation homes last year. Prosecutors are also considering charges of underaged drinking and identity theft. Well, Justin Bieber is off the hook. The 20yearold singer struck a plea deal in his miami beach dui and dragracing case. Tmz reporting he will plead guilty to reckless driving then all charges will be dropped. And there is more good news for bieber. He wont face a robbery charge in l. A. Giants ceo larry baer is on the 2024 committee to bring the olympics to the bay area. We have a 49ers stadium coming. You have a Warriors Arena coming. And you have a bunch of existing facilities here in a vibrant region. Reporter what isnt about the anywhere is the olympic village. Past San Francisco bids have relied on village sites at San Franciscos bayviewhunters point area and the south bays Moffett Field but the bay area has its weaknesses. The city and the states red tape and the citys tight layout could mean traffic headaches. Mayor brown says the biggest weakness of all, city leaders and the bid committee did not know the right people. We keep coming up short because we never understood how to put the votes together. The queen anne victorian was built in 1892 by matt cavanaugh, the man responsible for building whats commonly called postcard row.
