We keep hearing that we need to conserve water but this is what we are dealing with in one part of the bay area, the only source of Drinking Water is bone dry. Mark sayre is in morgan hill tonight where the options are extremely limited. Reporter elizabeth, most of the bay area gets its water from a variety of sources including the high sierra and plays like lake shasta but here in southern Santa Clara County they get it from only one place, the ground. The restrictions on watering in morgan hill are severe. Outdoor areas can be watered only on monday wednesday and friday. Theres an obligation to fix any leaks within 72 hours. And no driveway washing is allowed at all. Cut back on showers, of course, and dont wash your cars. Reporter but people from morgan hill to gilroy face an additional concern most of the bay area doesnt. All of their water comes directly from the underground water table. Reporter the Santa Clara Valley Water District is letting most of its percolation ponds like this one go dry this summer meaning water is not being recharged back into the ground. But here in the south county area, the district is still sending about 40 of the usual supply into the ground through this canal on highway 101. They hope it will be enough. So, you know, you could expect as water levels drop, for example, they could expect increased pumping costs potentially any well, you know, as the water level drops. The efficiency of the pumping will be reduced. Ceo were working closely with them. Reporter neighbors say all they can do is conserve and hope. We can hope but we cant depend on it. Despite best efforts of water managers that underground water table has dropped significantly. The last reading shows 21 feet below where it was at this time last year. The managers say they are hopeful with conservation measures there will be enough water to get this part of the bay area through the summer. Live in morgan hill, im mark sayre, kpix 5. Does the family themselves feel a sense of responsibility . Inwardly think we must do when Something Like this happens. But i think where they can be at peace with all this i think its the truth is that since he was 9 years old, they have tried to help him. They are mourning more for the innocence that didnt return on friday night than the life of their son. Elliots in his writings expressed this hatred toward women. Is that more of how he fooled people . I have asked peter about that and i think he was in search of a girlfriend. I dont know why you girls arent attracted to me but i will punish you all for it. It shocked peter to hear that aggression towards women or even the way that he must have looked to women in his household. He did not know this side of his son.
