Morning commute. The good news for us and for roqui is that it will be later in the commute. Higher wind speeds are farther north with sustained winds. We could see gusts 30 to 40 Miles Per Hour as the front passes through. Right now, we are seeing sustained winds pretty windy in San Francisco at 22 Miles Per Hour there. The farther north you go, we do see wind speeds in the range of 15 Miles Per Hour in santa rosa, napa, fairfield, vallejo, as well. So well keep an eye on that. We are more concerned about the gusts. We have a high surf and flood advisory for the coast. Coast stoll flood toes central flooding is possible. Its something to be mindful along the coastline today. High tides though when you see the onshore flow. We get concerned about the coastal flooding. Temperatures are relatively mild areawide. We are in the mid60s for most folks. Its light sweater weather. You will see some rain by the end of the day and definitely grab an umbrella. Hey, i dont know what they are talking about, theres no rain here yet . Trust me, its coming. Well tracking it. Heres roqui with traffic. If that rain does come, indeed we need this mass transit situation to be done. All trains on bart have been delayed 20 minutes now because of an equipment issue in downtown oakland. They have to power down the entire system to fix it. Eastbound 37 vallejo after skies island a large brush fire has caused issues there but traffic at 56 miles an hour. We have crews on the way to try and control the situation. But, of course, with rain comes wind so that shouldnt help the large brush fire there either. Lets move to the bay bridge toll plaza. Carquinez bridge along the eastshore freeway to the maze westbound should take about 20 minutes. Those toll lights will turn on in 30 minutes at 5 30. The rain coming into San Francisco. Lets move into the Altamont Pass off 205 in tracy cars at 50 Miles Per Hour. So not too bad. Not too slow into livermore and then heres a live look at the dublin interchange. Slowmoving in the commute direction Altamont Pass to 680 will take you about 15 minutes. We are keeping an eye on the storm all across the bay area this morning. One of the hardesthit areas could be in marin county. Kpix 5s anne makovec is live near highway 101 and lucky drive. Hows it looking . Reporter the winds are picking up in larkspur. You can see some. Weeds behind me blowing around. But no rain here yet which is good news for the morning commute. This spot on 101 near lucky drive always floods when it starts raining very heavily. So thats good at this point. Just waiting for that rain to arrive. And pg e was out here all across the north bay yesterday preparing for this storm. Clearing branches because this combination of wind and rain will likely knock out some power. Authorities are encouraging you to check your gutters, pick up anything in your yard that could become a projectile in strong winds, but for some people, they say its never too early in the season for a big storm. I love the rain. Were getting a break. Its an excuse to stay inside and watch a movie. Thats a rare thing because sometimes the weather is a little too good here. Reporter as for the roadways, they will be slick as julie has been warning us about this morning. Some of the regular low water spots will be under water like the Manzanita Park n ride part of which will be closed for a week as a precaution. So everybody getting ramped up here for the bay areas first big storm of the fall season. Live in larkspur, anne makovec, kpix 5. Some important reminders for drivers out there before you head out the door today. Caltrans has closed the lower half of the Manzanita Park and right in mill valley for a week to keep cars from getting caught in flooding. Check your windshield wipers and tires. And get ready for slick roads and slowmoving traffic. Authorities in Santa Clara County are helping people affected by the loma fire prepare for the rain. Crews got the fire fully contained earlier this week. But now they are concerned about possible mud slides. There are two locations where people can fill up sandbags. One is at the open Space Authority parking lot on casa loma road. The other at the el toro fire station on old monterey road. Be sure to bring your own shovel. The storm is expected to generate some rough conditions along the coast, as well. For more on that heres kpix 5s maria medina who joins us live from pacifica. Maria reporter good morning, kenny. We are expecting 14 to 16foot waves along the coast and you can see here in pacifica, the waves are powerful but not as high. This is just the beginning of whats to come. We are expecting a larger swell into saturday and sunday. And, you know, when residents hear that here in pacifica, they really are on edge because as you may remember, it was earlier this year that el nino really battered the coastline here in pacifica. We saw a huge gaping hole in the seawall and cliff erosion. City leaders even declared a state of emergency and demolished an entire Apartment Building as it teetered on the cliffside so today we are expecting that high surf that residents really fear here. We are hoping for the best. But a good idea for you to stay out of the water as were expecting again that High Surf Advisory and rip currents. Maria medina, kpix 5. A judge has dismissed most claims in a lawsuit against the city of san jose filed by some supporters of republican president ial nominee donald trump. Back in june, a few protestors attacked some Trump Supporters who had just left a rally at Mcenery Convention center downtown. The lawsuit filed on behalf of more than a dozen Trump Supporters said the city did not do enough to protect them. A federal judge dismissed three of the four claims but let the claim of negligence stand. They knew that it was going to be a very large event, that there were going to be protestors, and that there might be violence. And unfortunately, the tactic that they chose there was seemingly to protect property and not humans. Mayor sam liccardo and police chief eddie garcia were targeted in the lawsuit. They call the claims absurd saying officers acted quickly to protect the public. Meanwhile, trump is trying to fight back against the recent accusations and articles about him. He says that the reports of him groping and assaulting women are lies. And its just a way for clinton and the Mainstream Media to stop his campaign. I never knew it would be this vile, this bad, that it would be this vicious. Trump wants the New York Times and People Magazine to retract the articles. The times responded saying, nothing in our article has had the slightest effect on trumps reputation. He has already created one for himself. President obama and the first lady are also addressing the allegations. Michelle obama did not hold back when she campaigned for Hillary Clinton yesterday. It now seems very clear that this isnt an isolated incidents. Its one of countless examples of how he has treated women his whole life. A new study from the American Psychological association finds about 52 of americans say the president ial race is a source of stress. The study was conducted in august before any of the recent developments came to light. Experts say the results mean the election is now considered a major life stressor in line with things like the economy, money and work. Any kind of change creates stress. Its going to create anxiety. The unknown. Not surprisingly, adults who use social media were more likely than those who dont to say the election was bumming them out. New developments in the search for San Franciscos next police chief. The citys Police Commission is reviewing a report from the department of justice before it announces its final selection. The Commission Says it is factoring the more than 400 page report from the d oj and identifying the best candidates to recommend to the mayor. The report is critical of the department and identified a number of problems including recruiting, transparency and bias. Rain or shine, oakland mayor libby schaaf says she will present her state of the city address tonight. This will be the mayors second state of the city. It should give us a clearer idea of how well the city is doing and where things are headed. Doors open up at 5 00 at Oakland City Hall for the address. Also today, wells fargo will be in the spotlight as it reports its quarterly earnings. Investors are anxious to hear the results as the bank struggles to regain trust after employees created millions of fake accounts in order to reach sales goals. The wind is blowing here but the rain has not yet arrived. We are out in the thick of it, though, waiting for this storm that we have been promised this fall storm to come. So well keep you posted throughout the morning. This weekend, caltrans plans to continue its removal of the old eastern span of the bay bridge. Crews will conduct under water implosions of two piers that are more than 80 years old. One is set for tomorrow morning at 11 30. The other is scheduled for saturday, october 29th. In each case, the chp will conduct rolling closures on the bridge as a precaution. A skipper could face charges after a boat capsized on the bay and dumped 30 people into the water. The boat was pulled out of the water yesterday. The chaos after it capsized saturday was also caught on camera. Everyone on board survived. But the skipper could face charges for possibly overloading the boat. Two children nearly drowned that day. And now investigators are trying to determine if they had life jackets on. We did have one of our marine units who did save the life of one of the children who did flatline and they brought him back to life. The coast guard was on hand to make sure no oil was spilled as the boat was pulled up. It is 5 15 right now. Lets check the roads with roqui. Hows it looking . Thank you, michelle. Pretty quiet right now but we have a pretty big mass transit situation. Lets take a look at bart right now. All trains are delayed 20 to 30 minutes from downtown oakland station due to an equipment problem. They have to shut down the entire system to fix this track problem and it is in recovery now and it could take about an hour. We just spoke to bart officials just now. Lets move over to a brush fire eastbound 37 in vallejo at mare island. There are crews on the way to try and control the fire. But it isnt causing many delays on the freeways though. Now moving over to the bay bridge toll plaza carquinez bridge along the eastshore freeway to the maze westbound, along the eastshore freeway, it will take about 20 minutes and those metering lights at the toll plaza should turn on about 5 30. Moving over to the Altamont Pass traffic looking good so far coming off 205 at 50 Miles Per Hour. Slow conditions into north flynn road and then it frees up into livermore. 205 to altamont will take you 11 minutes and then the Altamont Pass to 680 will take you 15 minutes. And heres a live look at the dublin interchange. Moving over to the san mateo bridge, if you are heading into the peninsula, its a pretty good commute as of now. 880 to 101 should take a quick 13 to 15 minutes off the toll plaza. Now, golden gate bridge, a nice commute into San Francisco if you are coming from marin or san rafael. 580 to the golden gate toll plaza 15 minutes. So all good over here. How about you, julie . We are tracking that rain on hidef doppler. Its out there, i promise, even if you dont see it out the door [chuckling] its heading your way. Take a look at hidef doppler. The leading edge of the rain is just north of San Francisco. Just north of where we just saw anne makovec there at lucky drive. Hey, anne, if you are listening, it is heading your way, [chuckling], i promise youll see it by the end of the day. Hidef Doppler Radar you can see the progression of light to moderate rainfall spreading south. Where is the rainfall now . We have some moderate to heavy showers up near upper lake, lakeport, this is a burn scarred area from the recent fires so there is some concern if we see too much rain too quickly in these areas that we could start to see mud slides. Well keep an eye on that throughout the day. Closer to us north bay folks, santa rosa seeing moderate to heavy showers right now. Rohnert park light to moderate showers. Petaluma, sonoma, yountville. This is the southern edge. It will come south and well all have showers by the end of the day. Out the door now, just a light sweater in areas that dont yet have the rainfall. Keep that umbrella handy. Temperatures are mild in the 60s areawide. Heres the storm. The strong early season storm responsible for all this tapping into our atmospheric river. This is whats going to keep us wet over the next few days. This area of low pressure now heading into British Columbia, but its not necessarily the jet stream this low. Its a front that we are tracking, associated with this low, thats bringing with it the high winds and the moderate to heavy rain at times. We call it locally heavy because some spots will see heavy rain, others wont. Watch this. You can time out the front here by looking at our wind gusts. This is futurecast predicting where these wind gusts will occur. As we start out this morning around 5 a. M. , the highest wind gusts are up north. Santa rosa, san rafael, napa with 22mileperhour winds in half moon bay. As the front moves south, the higher winds move south as well. Here we are around 8 00. You can see the front is now through right in San Francisco, east bay region, livermore winds picking up there and the front continues to move south into the late morning and we do see winds pick up even more there in livermore, 24mileper hour winds there. Then winds die down, gusts die down as the front passes through this afternoon. Rain moves right along with those winds so here we are at 7 00. We are seeing those showers over the north bay. As we move through the latter half of the morning commute we start to see over it much of the bay area. And then lingering over the south bay by this afternoon. We stay unsettled through the extended forecast through saturday. Another front comes through. Our next round of rain a little weaker but still going to see showers and then take a look at this. Here were pausing at sunday 1 00. Well really just see widespread rain and showers through much of the weekend, continuing on into the first part of the day on monday. Rainfall totals anywhere from 2 to 4 possibly above that for the Higher Elevations in the north bay up to 1 in the south bay. High temperatures today kind of an afterthought with you they are not going to be that high topping but theyre not going to be that high, near 70 degrees in the warmest locations. Good morning, everyone. Its friday, october 14. Im michelle griego. Im kenny choi. The rain has arrived in some parts of the bay mainly in sonoma county. We have seen at least a few showers there. But this is just the beginning. For the latest, heres julie. It is spreading south. Anne said it was homage to me at lucky drive, the rain that we were promised. I promise you will see that rain. The rain is just north of where she is there. Heres a look at hidef doppler. You can see where the rain is falling right now. Light to moderate rainfall for much of the bay area. The front is still over the northern portion of the state. Heavier rain is to come for everyone. You can see it moving light to moderate rainfall heading into the north bay. Part for we are seeing heavier rain up near lake county, farther north. Heavier near rohnert park. Saint helena heavy to moderate rainfall this hour. Cloverdale, as well. Light rain in napa. It will spread south for most of the region later on today. Warm every wind speeds not too high for most. These are sustained winds, not gusts. We could see gusts upwards of 30 to 40 Miles Per Hour in some of the Higher Elevations this morning. Right now winds 10 to 15 Miles Per Hour for most, a bit higher in San Francisco and oakland, 15 in napa, fairfield, santa rosa, sustained not gusts. In the meantime let me give you a quick look at your current conditions. Right now, throughout the bay area, we are seeing temperatures in the 60s pretty much areawide. Concord at 66. 65 in oakland. 65 livermore. 63 San Francisco. 61 san jose. And 62 in santa rosa. So mild temperaturewise out the door. South of, say, marin youre not going to see showers just yet but they are heading our way. And as i said we have that coastal flood advisory. Maria medina is out in pacifica tracking the waves. High surf advisory as well as coastal flood advisory. Right, maria . Reporter as you can see behind meet waves not so high here just yet like we have seen in the past here in pacifica but really residents here high surf and it really puts them on edge because as you remember it was just a few months ago earlier this year that el nino really battered the coastline here in pacifica. We saw huge gaping hole in the seawall as it failed with the surf really battering the coastline. And we saw some cliff erosion, as well. City leaders even declared a state of emergency and rushed to demolish and Apartment Building that was threatening to go over the cliffside. Today we are expecting high surf as you said, 14 to 16 feet waves along the coast and larger swells late saturday into sunday. Now that winter is kind of coming along, it can get pretty heavy out there and get pretty dangerous so, um, i mean, people should avoid the water if they dont know what theyre doing whereas in the summer, its a lot safer to be in there. Reporter and as you know, when you hear high surf, it really becomes a spectacle out here. Youll see crowds out here later today and this weekend but really, people are saying, you know, stay away from the water. And really stay out of the water because of the rip currents and the High Surf Advisory as we said. Live in pacifica, maria medina, kpix 5. We are also keeping an eye on the conditions in the north bay. One area that could see a lot of rain is marin county. Kpix 5s anne makovec is live near highway 101 and lucky drive reporter it is very windy here in larkspur this morning. Im standing by 101 and this is one of the spots that floods very easily because it is a low lying area. We havent seen rain yet, but julie is telling us its going to come any minute so were waiting for the rain to arrive. In the meantime, a pg e crew spent a lot of time yesterday trying to prepare for this storm, clearing branches, because the combo of winds and rain that were going to get will likely knock out some power. We are now hearing from one of the victims who says she was sexually assaulted by another student at san jose state university. The student spoke anonymously to the mercury news. She says the attacker trapped her inside a bedroom during a Labor Day Weekend party. It was reportedly the first night they had met. The suspect is an International Student who plays water polo at the university. Other students said they just learned about it this week. I felt like it should have been something that they should have informed us about when it happened in the moment, not almost a month after it happened. They should have let us know when it happened because what if it would have happened to another person . The District Attorneys Office is now investigating. They believe the suspect left the country. He hasnt been formally identified or charged. 25 days to the general election and donald trump is sharpening his attacks against Hillary Clinton and the media for conspiring to derail his president ial campaign. The republican nominee continues to deny a series of Sexual Assault allegations against him. He called the female accusers who Academy Forward in various publications this week horrible liars. Meanwhile, Melania Trump is demanding that People Magazine retract a portion of its story alleging that her husband sexually assaulted a reporter. She is not asking for retraction on the part about the Sexual Assault. These attacks are orchestrated by the clintons and their media allies. The only thing Hillary Clinton has going for herself is the press. Trumps running mate mike pence also coming to his defense saying that trump denies any of the actions occurred and believes him. Hillary clinton is headed to seattle today after she made a stop in San Francisco. Her fundraiser at the bill graham auditorium was sold out yesterday. She also made a visit to her campaign office. The storm affecting us also causing trouble hundreds of miles to our north. The conditions residents are dealing with in oregon next. ,,,, american League Championship series ,, few hours of rain. Ahead of the storm moving in, workers were clearing storm drains. That high winds chico is dealing with rain already ahead of the storm moving in. Workers were clearing storm drains. Officials are concerned that high wind could send leaves into the drain system and clog it. High winds that we anticipate we expect a lot of material to hit the ground and be collected in the storm drains so we try to keep them as free and clear as possible. Mud slides near chico are also a concern as they prepare to get hit by the same three storm systems. Well have to see. The same system is hitting the pacific northwest. A recordbreaking amount of rain fell in portland and 100 mileperhour winds hit parts of the oregon coast. Several roads and highways are closed in the region. Thousands of people lost power last night when the winds knocked down trees and power lines. Forecasters say the region could get a break from the rain today but another storm system could hit tomorrow. A surprising name is joining the fight to keep the raiders in oakland. Former 49ers owner Eddie Debartolo is in talks with the city for a lastminute deal to redevelop the coliseum site. It comes as the Nevada Assembly prepares to vote on a deal to put 750 million in Hotel Tax Revenue toward an nfl stadium in las vegas. Oaklands mayor has said nevadas action will not influence her stadium plans. For nevada and the legislation to get involved at this level to be able to use public funds in this fashion, i think they are very shortsighted. Lawmakers will vote today on the deal. Four coyotes have been euthanized in Orange County after an attack on a 6yearold boy. The boy was bitten while playing in an irvine park sunday night. According to the California Department of fish wildlife a coyote bit it in the arm and tried to drag him away. The boys father and other witnesses scared the animal away. Fish wildlife says the coyotes were put to death out of concern for human safety. They are twins and as you can see, they got to play with some colorful boxes. Of course they want the same ones, right . After the pandas spent four years at the zoo they will return to china. Lets check traffic and weather. Roqui, youre up first. Okay. Lets talk about traffic right now. Its actually looking good throughout the area. This rain should come down around 7 a. M. Im thinking, right, julie . Okay. Lets move over to the san mateo bridge. From hayward to foster city, thats only about 15 minutes into the peninsula. And over to the north bay this is a look at the golden gate bridge, 580 in san rafael, marin county, to the golden gate toll plaza, should also only take you about 15 minutes. And heres another story on the bay bridge toll plaza. Those metering lights have been on since 5 34 this morning. Causing some backups over to the 580 overcrossing, carquinez bridge along the eastshore freeway to the maze westbound about 20 minutes. Lets talk about the mass transit situation. All bart trains are delayed 20 to 30 minutes due to an equipment problem. They have to shut down the entire system to fix the track problem they were having. And this is causing a major delay. Now, they are saying that it will be repaired in about a halfhour. Well keep you posted. Altamont pass our only slow traffic of the morning so far coming off 205 at 35 to 40 Miles Per Hour slow through to north flynn road, then you can take a breath through livermore and then here you are slow traffic on the dublin interchange. Altamont pass to 680 will take you about 15 to 20, as well. Moving over now to the nimitz freeway, 238 in san leandro, to the maze, should take you about 16 minutes. But its looking good in both directions. So so far, pretty good on my end. How about, julie . Ahem, were looking good here, too. We are tracking this rain on hi def doppler. If you dont believe me, just look at your screen right now. The rain is there. [ laughter ] were not making this up. There is rain north of many of our viewers right now. Although the north bay, youre watching right now saying, no, shes right, we have rain. We have heavier rain associated with the front farther north that will be passing through later today. So the first band of showers, we put hidef doppler here on a loop over the last few hours. It is spreading inland and slowly making its way south. So folks in the north bay are seeing the rain right now. Some of the heaviest rain near lake county, this is a burn scarred region. We dont want to see a lot of rain all at once in those burn scarred areas. We could see those mud flows and other damages. Upper lake seeing some heavy rain right now as well as lakeport. Closer to home we are seeing some heavy rain passing through glen ellen and rohnert park. Santa rosa seeing light rain rate now as well as in windsor. And then back up here, you can see occidental also seeing showers, napa seeing some light rain. Overall this rain will slowly make its way south throughout the morning and into the early afternoon hours for the south bay. Temperatures out the door are mild. In the mid60s for most folks today so you dont necessarily need a parka with this one but you will want to bring an umbrella but as you head out the door this morning. So this is our strong early season storm. Tapping into plenty of subtropical moisture. We have a few storms on the. Reporter so its not just one and done. Well be unsettled through the week. Its not so much this area of low pressure that we are tracking heading into British Columbia but we are tracking the front passing through today. Starting off with the highest winds up north, as we advance into the late morning commute around 9 00, we start to see higher winds farther south, half moon bay, livermore, upwards of 20, 25 Miles Per Hour. And then as the front continues to pass to our south those higher winds continue to spread south, as well. And then dying down later today behind the front where we see unsettled weather. Rainwise, same story. Here we are at 7 00, we start to see the rain moving into our region a little farther south right now the north bay getting the best of it. By the end of the morning commute, spreading from San Francisco south into san jose seeing the leading edge of some of those lighter showers. And then seeing more rain for the south bay later on this afternoon. Behind it, again, scattered showers, unsettled weather, for the remainder of the day today. Here we are saturday night where we see the second round of rain another front moving through a bit weaker but still we are going to see rain and notice we really stay damp throughout the weekend. Here we are into sunday, still seeing scattered showers. And some moderate rainfall at times, as well. Well see high winds once again with that next front passing through staying unsettled until monday. Futurecast showing accumulations between friday and sunday anywhere from 2 to 4 of rain in the north bay up to an inch for some spots in the south bay. And heres a look at those high temperatures today. We will be on the cooler side topping out near 70 degrees for the warmest locations. So basically keep the umbrella handy today the heaviest rain, highest winds, unsettled saturday through monday. If you are missing the sun, it will be back midweek next week. That bart delay might not be there anymore. Samsung is bracing for a huge loss over its decision to stop production of the galaxy note 7. Between now and march, the company could lose a total of 3 billion. Samsung announced this week that its ending all production and sales of the note 7. The problems began last month when note 7 phones were recalled due to overheating batteries that could cause the devices to catch fire. An increase in the number of exploding cell phones is prompting airlines to add new Fire Suppression equipment to their flights. At least 3 u. S. Carriers are stocking fire containment bags to help combat the threat of lithium ion batteries bursting into flames. The bags are made of the fire resistant material and designed to hold portable Electronic Devices in case they overheat or catch fire. The bags are supposed to be able to withstand temperatures up to 3200 degrees fahrenheit. There could be a new way to answer your phone. A Company Created technology to let users control their phones with their finger. The device is developed in south korea and it looks like a watch. The company says the band uses a bluetooth signal to connect to your phone and when someone calls, the sound travels from the band on your wrist to your finger. It translate the sound into a vibration so that it can pass through your hand and then through your finger able to way up your ear. So then it becomes a sound again. Looks like a reporter in the field. Checking the ifb. The company says it is still perfecting the band so its for sale just yet. It could hit stores next year. The price tag around 150. You probably heard the express, everything is bigger in texas. Well, it turns out its also true for the alligators out there. Check out big tex. Wildlife workers say that he is the biggest alligator thats ever been captured in that state. Big tex more than 13. 5 feet long weighing 900 pounds. One gator hunter says he couldnt believe his eyes. At 13 feet eight inches long thats an amazing animal and now since we showed up, we didnt kill him. We brought him back alive so he can live out the rest of his life here and other folks can come and enjoy him. Big tex is now at a wildlife preserve called gator country, with hundreds of other gators. It is 5 56. Police are looking into a string of armed robberies involving students at a bay area university. Anne makovec is keeping an eye on flooding in the north bay where the heavy rain will hit first. Maria medina has more on the concerns along the coast. But first, lets go to julie watts who has been tracking the storm in the studio. Anne, i promise the rain is coming. Im going to show how close it is to you [chuckling] coming up in just a minute. First, hidef doppler this morning. You can see we do have some impressive rainfall. Notice the leading edge of the rain is right here just north of San Francisco.
