Hicks if a juvenile is between 13 and 15 and 364 days we now have to do a hearing where the burden of proof is on the state to convince the court that he should be tried as an adult. Its not a change he would have advocated had he been in office during that session. Hicks anytime we have to add another layer of putting on witnesses it makes it more difficult. Its more difficult on the victims. Its more difficult on the witnesses and it slows down the process. Hicks says his office will move forward. The motion followed by a hearing with evidence and witnesses much like a preliminary hearing will take an additional 60 to 90 days. He says bringing serious charges against juveniles involves compelling issues, but so do the crimes they occasionally commit. A Storey County deputy continues to recover from a gunshot wound he got while responding to a weekend Domestic Violence call. The deputys name isnt being released at this time, but were told 51yearold Charles Stutts fired at officers saturday afternoon at around four30. They were responding to the call in the Virginia City highlands. Officers say stutts fired a rifle several times, hitting not only the deputy, but a bystander in the area. The deputy returned fire, and stutts surrendered. The deputy, bystander and stutts were taken to a hospital for treatment. Okay. Stutts faces several charges including attempted murder of a peace officer. Two shooters are on the loose, and reno police are searching for them, after the incident at a downtown bar. Witnesses say the victims were arguing with two hispanic men before the shooting happened. Those men are now wanted by police.
