A hydrologist from the Natural Resources Conservation Service will be at the Mount Rose Summit tomorrow to measure the snowpack. That will give us an idea where we stand for the year and what we can expect for the regions water supply for the coming year. A man is in custody after shooting and injuring a Storey County sheriffs deputy during a Domestic Violence call yesterday afternoon. It happened around 4 30 in the Virginia City highlands. Deputies, responding to a report of Domestic Violence were confronted by 51year old charles stutts. Stutts fire a rifle several times. Hitting one of the deputies and another person who was in the area. Sheriff gerald antinoro, tells kolo 8 the deputy did return fire. And stutts surrendered. The deputy and stutts were taken to the hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds. Both are expected to be ok. County jail on charges including attempted murder of a peace officer. The deputys name has not been released, but per protocol they have been placed on administrative leave while the shooting is under investigation. A shooting in downtown reno early this morning leaves two people injured. It happened shortly before 4 00. On west commercial row outside the one up bar. Police say the two victims were taken to a hospital with nonlife threatening injuries. According to witnesses the people who were shot had been arguing with two others who are now wanted by police. Both are hispanic, one wearing a dark blue sweatshirt and the other about fivefoot five inches tall and wearing a red San Francisco football jersey. Secret witness is offering a onethousand dollar reward for information that can help them find and prosecute the shooters. The one of a kind exhibit took five years to put together. And its the first to fill every one galleries its over 400 artworks by 175 artists and it spans 200 years of production. This show is presented chronologically so we start at the beginning with washoe baskets but its also presented themeatically. And its something all ages can enjoy. Warm air advection is producing light snow showers for locations north of susanville and gerlach this morning. Light accumulations will be possible so Early Morning commuters should be prepared for potentially slick roads in those areas. The light showers will begin to dissipate this afternoon as the upper low continues to lift north out of the region. Temperatures continue to be tricky early this morning. Cloud cover along with some breezy winds are keeping temperatures warmer than yesterday evening in some locations, while other locations remain very cold with strong die down later today as the gradient relaxes with the upper low exiting the region. The splitting trough encounters the sierra and western nevada late tonight into monday bringing increased chances for precipitation. Best chances for showers will be as the trough axis moves into the sierra on monday. A few inches of snow will be possible with this initial storm in the sierra, but very little precipitation is expected in western nevada. Minor travel impacts are expected with this system from the tahoe basin and northward into lassen and a stronger, wetter system pushes into the west coast on tuesday and it will likely bring moderate snow to the sierra. Forecast models are still on track with this storm bringing a decent amount of snow to the sierra tuesday and tuesday night with 4 to 8 inches for the sierra from Lassen County down through expected to take executive action to make getting a gun harder for some people. A look at what hes planning to do and how those who would be president are reacting sources say expanding background checks will be a keystone of the president s actions.
