Republican caucuses, about long lines, running out of ballots. And that certainly happened at some locations. But that doesnt answer the big question. If you ask leaders from either party how it went. Youll hear Something Like well, we pulled it off. and they did. And republicans can point to the fact that more people voted for donald trump last night than the total turnout four years ago. Democrats didnt match their party how it went. Youll hear Something Like well, we pulled it off. and they did. And republicans can point to the fact that more people voted for donald trump last night than the total turnout four years ago. Democrats didnt match their 2008 turnout, but registered thousands new party members. And both parties once again updated their mailing lists and identified their most dedicated members. But was it enough . When harry reid proposed nevada as an early caucus state ahead of the 2008 election and nevada republicans followed reluctantly at first, all knew nevada faced a real challengejump starting a existed before. Iowa was the model, but theyve been doing it for decades and, if you talked with caucus goers back then, as i did, they would have told you they doubted if we were up to the task. After three tries, with a caucus culture here still a work in progress, its fair to ask if they were right. Turnout is still comparatively low. Confusion and frustration continue. Ask the voter who stood in line or couldnt attend because they were working or were a registered independent and youll find a lot of support for a primary instead. Theres a good argument to be made. The state certainly knows how to run an election. Voters know what to expect. We still have the diversity and western perspective that made us a good choice for an early contest and if weve enjoyed the economic stimulus and all the attention from the candidates and, lets face it, we have, we may have to take a look at this question again. Harry reid and his influence with his National Party is exiting the scene and both National Parties will be taking a long, hard look at the nevada caucus its hard not to conclude that early spot is at risk. Hillary clinton has picked up a big endorsement, in her bid for the white house. I think the middle class would be better served by hillary. I think my work with her over the years is something ive looked upon with awe. Senate minority leader harry reid announced his support today in an interview with cnn. The nevada democrat, made a plea for his party to consolidate behind clinton and put the contentious primary behind them. During the interview. He also spoke on the vacancy left on the Supreme Court by the death of justice antonin scalia. Reporter you met with brian sandoval. Hes been mentioned as a possible Supreme Court justice. Do you think that he would be a good Supreme Court justice . Sen. Harry reid you know i dont i dont pick the justices. But i know if he were picked, i would support the man. Hes a good person, he has a great tremendously good governor in spite of having to deal with some very big problems there. Reid publicly endorsed governor sandoval, as a potential Supreme Court nominee for the first time today. The republican governor, and former federal judge, was first mentioned as a posibility, for the vacant seat last week. But officials with the governors office, released a statement saying quote, neither governor sandoval, or his staff have been contacted by, or talked to the obama andministration. A democratic candidate, to replace harry reid in the senate, is speaking out against president obamas plan to close the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay.
