As people tried to beat the heat today there was actually some danger out there. A 15yearold girl at ocean beach had to be rescued after she was caught in a rip current. Abc 7 News Reporter Melanie Woodrow has more. Reporter hundreds of people are soaking up the sun in San Francisco, where ocean beach is packed today. They rescued a 15yearold girl who separated from her board and got caught in a nasty rip around 11 50 this morning at pacheco and great highway. The same lifeguards tell us there are two trucks with four lifeguards working the beach today. Temperatures are expected to rise especially midweek. Theres a high chance im going to be sick on wednesday i think. Reporter the National Weather service says there will be a moderate risk for those sensitive to heat near los altos and hayward on wednesday. Melanie woodrow, abc 7 news. The main beach at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk was packed today just hours after police investigated a homicide. They had to shut down a part of e popular public space during the investigation. Police arrested 58yearold kevin callahan, a transient they found sleeping nearby. They say he got into a fight with another man at the beach early this morning. That man died a short time later. They didnt find a stab or a gunshot wound. So an autopsy will be needed to help determine how the man died. A shark attacked a woman at a popular surfing spot in southern california. It happened at San Onofre State Beach in northern san diego county. The Orange County register reports the victim was just wading in the water when the shark bit her below the waist. Two surfers fortunately were able to pull her out of the water and someone on the beach used a surf leash on her upper thigh to stop the bleeding. In developing News Congress has reached a temporary budget deal that will fund the government for five more months. It will not pay for the president s border wall on mexicos border or cut funding to medical research and Community Development grants as the white house wanted.
