Richard is covering that story for us. The family hads issued a written statement saying they are aware of this claim by the militant group isis. They say they are still waiting however for confirmation from u. S. Authorities. American authorities have also said they are aware of the video but are trying to confirm it. I have seen the video. It is very similar to other videos that we have seen before. The same style, the same graphic. It looks quite authentic. In it we dont actually see kassig beheaded. In a lot of the beheadings, you see a lot of the soldiers. The masked militant says he was beheaded. The 26yearold volunteering, going to syria to help refugee families, to help give medical services to the people in that war torn country. He was captured about one year ago. Earlier, last month, nbcs Peter Alexander spoke with the kassig family, spoke to his father and the father had received a letter from peter while in captivity, while also in captivity peter changed his name. Dont worry, dad. If i go down, i wont go down thinking anything but what i know to be true. That you and mom love me more than the moon and the stars. Reporter so now he has those effectively final words to think about as the family awaits confirmation, hearing from kassig while in captivity, saying if i go down, i will do gown knowing that you loved me. This will be the fifth western hodge that isis has killed. Isis has killed many other people, this will be the fifth western hostage. Were still awaiting confirmation. The white house has responded to this latest isis claim. Were in brisbane, australia with more. Erica, news of the beheading came just an hour after president obama had left brisbane. Zen peter kassig by isis. The Intelligence Community is working as quickly as possible to determine its authenticity. If confirmed, we are appalled by the brutal murder. The United States started targeting isis in iraq this summer after the First American james foley was beheaded. A month later, u. S. Launched air strikes in syria. During a press conference, mr. Obama said they hold weekly meetings about isis. In an earlier statement, president obama said its too soon to know if the u. S. Is winning the war against isis. Thanks. This morning, a Rapid Response team is on the scene of a deadly Chemical Spill outside of houston, texas, that left four people dead and another hospitalized. Now there are deep concerns about the cloud of gas that was released for miles over the area. Nbc has more on the story. Reporter this morning officials are trying to figure out the cause of a deadly chemical leak at a dupont plant in la port, texas. We had the incident this morning, that resulted in the exposure of five employees, four of which were fatally exposed. The chemical released has a strong rotten egg smell can and can be dead in high concentrations. The fall ordered spread out across la porte and spread over houston. There was never a shelter in place issued because there was never a hazard to our neighbors. Thereof a strong odor and we deeply apologize for that nuisance. Federal and local safety issues are investigating. So is dupont. We will find the cause at this point. The cloud has dissi patd but the sense of unease may hang around much longer. That we aspire to be the shop shelf on thanksgiving. Turkey day, can be full of culinary mishaps. Just ask any of us. Remember when rays mom on Everybody Loves raymond decided to go the diet route. Look how it jiggles. And when joey on friends ruined monicas turkey. Oh my god. Oh my god. What is that . Thanksgiving mishaps have a happened to us too. Our first thanksgiving in new york city. The turkey wasnt ready. We put it back in. Still wasnt ready. We put it back in. It still wasnt. We had sides. I couldnt believe the turkey could be done that quickly. It came out really dried out. The arms were looking like this. My grandmother makes a strawberry salad. Its jello base, fresh strawberries, mashed pineapples, bananas, nuts. I was like im going to make it on my own. Some how it was like soup. Kids were Walking Around with cups and spoons. I like nuts and stuffing and cranberries but dont like them together. When stuffing comes and people put walnuts in, you killed a perfectly good stuffing. This is not the moment to do something different. I like to mix it up. I throw in a jalapeno cornbread. Its thanksgiving. Its tradition. Dana is the editor and chief of food and wine magazine forever their latest issue. She worked with a culinary wizard to solve problems shes encountered cooking up thanksgiving dishes. We learn from her mistakes. Great to see you. I sounded like a whiner in that piece. I didnt mean to be. We start with a multigrain bread stuffing. We talked about dryness. I made a dry stuffing that made my mouth hurt. I didnt have fluffy bread. You need one to absorb the liquid. We have the celery, seasonings, sage. Its got wine in it. Pour in the egg. Add the stuff. Theres so much liquid, you should not have a problem with dryness. As long as you cook the right amount of time. Im going to have you toss that around. Sure. If it turns out dry when it comes out of the oven, add a little stock. Never, ever go wrong. That will be nice and juicy. It will be. It could go wrong with walnuts. Im not antiwalnuts, i just dont want it in stuffing. You toss and youre good. Brussel sprouts are one of their favorite side dishes. You have a different take. Maybe Brussel Sprouts and bacon is old. I try to get beyond brussels and bacon. The thing about Brussel Sprouts, they can sometimes be tough. Get them really young and little like on a stalk. Or choose them thin and put salt. Im going to have you massage. What does that do . It breaks it down so its tender. You said shave thin. Thats hard. Do you put them in Food Processor . Yes then the work is done for you. Theyre tender. Then you have almonds for crunch. I love these. Pickled onions. Thats my secret for everything then a butter milk vinegarrette. Its so light. Brussel sprouts for thanksgiving, forget it unless you make like this. Salad done. Weve got the you hastuffin. How about cranberry . Start with fresh cranberries. Dump them in. Weve got cranberry juice. Ive never made real cranberry sauce. Start fresh. Going to be great. Dried cranberries, sugar, and you stir it around. If its too thick, thin out with more orange juice. If too thick, cook down. Gravy is my nightmare. Sift the flour . Watch this. Any time you sift with flour, you are never going to have a lump. This is a guarantee. What if theres not enough liquid . Just add more. Straight up chicken stock. Youre the best.
