Local time. It disappeared 15 minutes into the flight from radar. The transport minister says the plane asked to change routes because of a bad stand storm in the airline. The Airlines Says half the passengers were french. It was an older Mcdonald Douglas plane built in the mid90s, we believe. Flying over mali, where they are firing in the north. They dont believe anybody on the ground has the fire power to bring down a commercial airliner. Two french fighter jets based in the area have been now dispatched to try to locate the crash scene, niger has sent crash planes to search the area. This was operated by a spanish company, swift air. It has a relevant tiverly clean record with five accidents since 1977, two of which caused a total of ten deaths. This is a beautiful resolution to a very long, very hard journey. Reporter taylor was at a Job Interview in scottsdale, arizona, when she left her two sons, a 2yearold and 6monthold alone in her suv. Police say both kids were in the car seats in the back, the vehicle was unlocked, the keys in the ignition, the windows rolled down about an inch. They were alone for 38 minutes and the temperature inside the car was over 100 degrees. My concern at that point in time was the safety and wellbeing of the children. Reporter the kids were okay, but that mugshot along with taylors story that she couldnt find a babysitter stirred compassion. Supporters raised nearly 115,000 for her. This is not a crime of child abuse. This is a crime of desperation. Reporter last week prosecutors agreed to drop the case if taylor finishes a Parenting Program and puts the donated money toward a trust fund for her kids education and child care. Justice doesnt always have to be punishment. We want her to have a job. As community, we want parents working so they can provide for their kids. Reporter taylor now hopes to reginn custody of her kids, a moment that would likely bring tears of joy. For today, joe fryer, nbc news, los angeles. This case prompted so much discussion in homes across the country, in places in business across the country. I think it presented a dilemma for the prosecutors in this case. You think you have been treated fairly throughout this process . I think ive been treated fairly. The type of resolution i had, not many people get. I think its an excellent job they did. I want to ask about your kids. You said at the end of the spot you hope to gain custody back . How much contact have you had . When did you see them . I saw them monday. Get to see them every week end. We definitely have a lot of family time in a short twoday span. They must miss their mom. Yes, yes. We know the circumstances. Take me back to march 20th. Youre going for this Job Interview. You three kids. You couldnt get a babysitter. You said this job was crucial. Money is tight. It was a turning point for your family. But at the same time you went for this Job Interview you had to know that it could be hazardous to leave your children in a hot car. Take me through the moment of decision. Um, it wasnt necessarily a moment of decision. It was planned out beforehand and the plans fell through. I actually had a sitter scheduled, and that person wasnt available or just i guess they flaked on me, is the best way to say it. But then theres still a moment of decision to either cancel the Job Interview or go through with it. And that moment of decision went how for you . It was a moment of desperation. It was me knowing my family was in crisis and knowing that i had to make a choice between providing for my children or caring for my children. I think the discussion that has been prompted centers around a central question. Despite the circumstances, did you act reasonably and responsibly, how would you answer that question . Thats a difficult question because its making a choice out of desperation. Its choosing what is the best option, what is the best thing for me to do in this particular situation, be able to provide food, a roof, clothes, shoes for them or take this moment and care for them. So what youre saying to me is responsibility in that context is in the eye of the beholder . Exactly. The money thats been raised here, shanesha, 115,000. What are you going to do with that money . Its going into trust accounts for the children. Matt, part of the deal we were able to negotiate and get the charges dismissed, were able to have a trust fund for ms. Taylor and her kids. Her kids will be taken care of for the rest of their lives and thats a great thing. Inadvertently i think, shanesha, you have become the face of the working poor in this country. So what is the message to others who find themselves in similar circumstances . The message is i understand your family is in crisis, but reach out, seek that help. I do understand that there are holes in the governmental system, that they dont necessarily have the funding or the programs available to help you, but there are other sectors. There are the nonprofit sectors that have stepped up to fill those gaps and make sure that families in crisis are being taken care of. So just reach out. If you dont drink enough, you dont poop as much. You dont have to poop every day. Suddenly if your bowels change, one, try more water, more fiber, fruits, vegetables. If the change is suddenly serious or be theres blood in your stool, you need to see your doctor. Constipation can also be a sign of cancer of the colon if theres a dramatic change. Another thing identified, dull skin. How do you know if its a more serious problem . If you have abused your skin like i said when i was in my 20s, it was collagen, elastic and the elasticity you can check by checking the skin on your arm to see how fast it pops back, what we call the snap test. If youve lost collagen and elastin, its time to make up for it. Washing your skin well, using good products and moisturize. The last two. Red eyes. Usually can mean allergic reaction, maybe problems with contacts. Also allergies. Can also be signs of arthritis or other problems. If they dont go away with simple moisturizers, see your ophthalmologist. Dry mouth . Every part of your body gets drier as you get older. Your mouth is no different than your vagina. Oh, nancy. It all happens. Water, lubricant, everything matters. Your skin gets drier, your nose gets drier, your mouth gets drier. If youve had radiation in your mouth, you get sear stoem yeah. Were getting ready for the induction this weekend. Its going to happen as these three gentleman, joe torre, frank thomas and bobby koch. Well talk to them in just a moment. Always getting a huge reward, former today show anchor and legend on the field, Joe Garagiola who is getting the buck oneil Lifetime Achievement award. He couldnt make it here to cooperstown this weekend, but we did catch up with him recently in phoenix. When i got the news, i was almost shocked because its a big award. Reporter the buck oneil award honors good work after a player hangs up its cleats. Joe garagiola championed the negro leagues, raised grant money and fought against smokeless tobacco. People say you have a great ministry. I dont have a ministry. God gives us all a job to do and we should recognize that and lets do it. Reporter joe was the only player in the hall of fame to be honored twice. In 1991 it was for his broadcasting excellence. Joe g. Worked for nbc for 30 years, he was a today show anchor twice. Thats the reason im in the hall of fame. Bobby and Tony La Russa, the three of us going in at the same time, it was the most satisfying for me because we mirrored each others careers pretty much. Frank, we have to say you work at Comcast Sports with us. I grew up watching you. The big heart crushed the ball, known for crushing it and also known for playing clean baseball. What. Thats right. Im living the dream. My hometown Atlanta Braves for many years, to go on with this class is really special. The game is changing. But im happy to be a part oift and happy to be going on the wall of fame with these guys. Bobby, only one of four managers named as manager of the year in both leagues. There is a metal plate that radiates the heat back to your food. The product is theyre not created equal. Some have problems with low temperature cooking. The price, has it come down . I know it used to be expensive. You can find them just over 200 now. These racks are designed specifically for grilling vegetables. Right. Its really great, they have a lot of men overboard, between the cracks. They have a smaller opening. It does have a low start. Do be careful when you tern them over. Do you like it . It cooks really well. It has a rob with something sticky. You want to be careful what you cook. I am one of these guys who love the ribs cooked on the grill. Sometimes theyre hard. The ribs do well. They can be great for the barbque if you want to cook them for a gang, they clean up really well. You have to be careful, because it gets really hot. You want to use your tongs when you are taking them out. Tell me about this grill grate. Its like the infrared. It helps to heat it evenly, some grills did a good job. Others less some they offer a full 30day money back guarantee. By the way the makers of the grill grates say they are examiner report championship results when making perfect steaks. No more burned chicken. Ah. We always hear there is an app for that. There is an app that helps you to perfectly cook your meet. Okay. So we grill on our massive grill. We made a mess. To you we need to clean up. This is the grill bot. We tested it in the labs. We put it on for 30 minutes. It did a good job on the top of the rack. It did less of a job in between, it makes a lot of noise. The folks at grill bots, Consumer Reports used an earlier model. Since then they have made improvements and recommending a longer cleaning cycle for dirtier grates. Wed love to test it in our labs. This was bought online recently. Brick oven pizza on on the of the grill. Its a pizza oven box, its heavy, it has to be on a three burner oven or higher. It does a great job cooking biz za, its four minutes or less. Topping this morning, two sons were left in a hot car. She was on a Job Interview. Police say both kids were in their car seats, the car unlocked, keys in the ignition, windows rolled down a crack. They were alone for 38 minutes. The temperature inside said to be over 100 degrees. She was on the show this morning. Here is what she told matt. It was a moment of desperation. It was it was me knowing my family was in crisis and knowing that i had to make a choice between providing for my children or caring for my children. All right. Heres the thing. She said she had no child care option at the time. She told matt this morning she had arranged for someone to take care of the kids while she went on this interview. The person flaked out at the last minute. This caused a big issue. Others did sympathize with her plight. She is somebody who is trying to make a better life for her kids and got in a bad place. You think, well, maybe you should have rescheduled the interview. I dont know. But if youre desperate, you though, maybe youre not thinking clearly at the time. Im sympathetic to her story certainly, but i think parents, anybody who has a kid, the safety of your child comes first. And i know that job was important and maybe a Long Time Coming and she needed it. My gosh, you think about what could have happened those two kids, the car over 100 degrees. She thought she would be in there 15 minutes. Extended to almost 40 minutes. Thats when the situation got more dangerous. Thank goodness the kids are okay. Should point that out. You have to take care of your kids first. Here is what happened with the case. The district attorney, the prosecutor said hes going to dismiss the child abuse charges. If she was successfully complete parenting and Substance Abuse treatment programs. She has been asked to establish an education in Child Care Trust fund account for both of her children because, by the way, a the lot of people hearing this donated money and they actually raised 115,000. So that money is part of the plea deal will go towards the kids. By the way, she originally got the job. But once this got into the public, she lost the job. She is only seeing the kids on the weekend. Very complicated for her. Al, how about these tweets . Weve all flown with our kids. An agent didnt like a tweet a man wrote about her certificase. Southwest has this alist priori priority. He was alist but the kids were. He said you can board but your kids cant. He boards with his kids later on and tweets Something Like, wow, rudest agent in denver, kimberly s. Gate c39, not happy at southwest. The tweet made the gate agent, kimberly s. , uncomfortable. Southwest saying its a Security Threat to use her name. Isnt there a name tag . They threatened to call police unless he took the tweet down. He did and allowed to reboard. Hes going back on social media. So he tweets unreal expectati expectations. Asked for name of rude gate agent. We board. I tweet. Kids and i pulled off unless we pull tweet. They apologized and sent him three 50 vouchers. Almost worth it. Come back. Here is southwests statement. Our decision was not based solely on a customers tweet following a successful resolution, the customer and his family were able to continue on the flight to minneapolis. We are thoroughly investigating the situation. Ive gotten tweets from people saying, well, he could have boarded they have after the priority thing and after the a group you can board with your kids. Maybe thats what he did. It sounds like he was irritated, i pay for whatever extra, i have this priority, so why cant my kids come with me . Theyre traveling with me. For them to pull him off the flight, the family off the flight, saying its a Security Risk is just bogus. Once you delete the tweet, Security Risk over. Even though you delete the tweet, its still out there. Really. Get over here you. Come on, get back onboard. I think a good rule is dont break up a familiy. If theres a parent with two kids, you make them board separately. Use common sense. Kimberly s. , then dont board. Wait when everybody else can board and go on. Those are hard jobs. You take the brunt anytime theres a delay. People think its their fault. Thats their job, they want to do that. Now passengers have so many more outlets to complain after the fact. We hear about them more publicly. This is more creepy. A story in the Des Moines Register. The Des Moines Register has a story claiming hidden cameras found in restrooms and other facilities in three iowa communities. Whats happening in iowa . The report also says Chicago Police are investigating hidden cameras in the restroom of a funeral home. No . And a Church Pastor was arrested for hiding a camera in the womens bathroom. That is so wrong. We have so many questions. I dont know how to say this politely. Is it enjoyable to watch people use the restroom . Is that the most enjoyment you have in your life . Put your hidden camera somewhere else . No, i wont go down that road. Thank you. Apparently according to reports you can disguise these things easily, put them in a vent and even the towel dispenser, some other fixture. Where do you put yours . Not going down that road. And we have some good times visiting the Baseball Hall of fame yesterday. We did. It was a dream for me. I grew up watching tons of baseball, so we were in our wet suits about to go tubing and we ran into joe torre, which was slightly embarrassing, i have to say. It was like oh covering up. But it was so amazing to be in this place with so many baseball greats. We got out on the lake, as i said, which may not be our sport, tubing. No. We realized getting in the batting cage, thats not our sport either. But weve had some good times here, guys. Where does this go on the list . The lobster roll for you is a smart indulgence. Its not about deprivation. You want to have it, and theres very little mayonnaise. Thats a little bit. I could have another bite and call it a day. Tell us about whats happening. In midlife its not your imagination that you put on weight more easily because two things happen. First is your metabolism slows. That means the same calories you ate at age 30 to maintain your weight you need about 200 calories fewer at age 50 to maintain that weight. It becomes harder. Secondly, we all know that dropping estrogen is an issue in midlife where it changes the cascade of all the hormones make it easier to get that fat in the middle when you eat more calories. The best way to combat that is to make some xhart choices. You dont have to gain that weight. Back in the day when we were younger, we liked mashed potatoes and pasta. Who doesnt love a nice starchy. It gives thaw mouth feel. You can swap out a few things. First you can use spaghetti squash. Which i love spaghetti squash. Angel hair pasta or zuchini linguini. Im still eating my lobster roll. Its really good. Both of them are going to be really great. It gives you that texture of having a starch. It tastes butter where i. Buttery, but not butter in them. Condiments is my shortfall. Sneaky condiments. Even a table spoon of Barbecue Sauce can have 30 calories or so. We just slosh this on. Regular mayonnaise will be a high calorie choice. Try to swap out salsa or mustard. Very low in calories for a little spice or even hot sauce. Dont go fat free with things like mayonnaise because theres no flavor. Youll add more, and it doesnt do anything. Reduced fat gives you that mouth feel effect and that mouth feel is so important because you cant be deprived or its not i tried to switch the mustard because i love ketchup and mayo and all those creamy things. Dips and dressings that we all use really every day. Even with a big salad. You know, one nobrainer is to use greek yogurt instead of sour cream. When you follow a recipe for oil and vinegar, if you dont want to use this balsamic, do things like just reverse it. Instead of twothirds oil, just dump this in, just use one part oil and two parts vinegar. Or just use all vinegar if you like. Some of you use bottle dressings. Take Something Like ranch dressing, and just add some buttermilk. Buttermilk. Thats what ranch is based. Instead of having a big fatty dress, create your own lower fat version. Doesnt buttermilk have a lot of fat . Its low fat. I didnt realize that. The buttermilk is not fatty. Its a strange term for something thats low in fat. What about drinks . Drinks are a big calorie sink whether its nonalcoholic juices or todayas or a fruity alcoholic cocktail. What you want to do is swap out for something that you like. Some sparkling wine. You can have club soda and dump frozen fruit right into that, or just have a splash of juice into your sparkling water. Just downsize your drink. Avoid the things that have no limit. Even a 12 ounce bottle of regular beer, 150 calories is good. Its all it just adds up. It adds up, and you wont really feel that you have having calories. The salty snacks. Salty snacks. Salt and crunch is really important. When you think about any of these fried things, you want to get away from that and think about how to bulk up your taste with air and fiber and water. Something like popcorn will be good. Even some vegetables that you have some low fat dip is going to be good, or make your own whole grain peitas without all the fad. You can bake it instead of fried. Even mix and match. Just quickly, the last thing. Who wouldnt like frozen desserts . To avoid some of these things, get something thats calorie controlled. Frozen yogurt on a stick or make your own, and fruit that has just a drop of chocolate on it is really satisfying and bananas with chocolate. Oh, thats good. Bananas are so satisfying.
