Well, you can rough me up you can break me down baby, dont stop now oh, you can use me up till it all runs out baby, dont stop now im all yours im all yours somehow baby, dont stop now no, honey, dont stop now oh, baby, dont stop now brittany hey, whats up . Im britt burton, and youre watching beta records tv, and today were here at the gibson showroom with billy morrison, one of the most fabulous rock guitarists, and hes gonna be giving us an inside scoop on gibson guitars. Thank you so much for letting us just come by and check all this out. My absolute pleasure. Brittany obviously, we have a lot of guitars behind us right now, but something cool that gibson came out with was a selftuning guitar. How is that different from playing one that you have to tune . Many, many songs are written and recorded in different tunings. Once you start doing gigs and stuff, you find yourself doing 12 songs, and theres 6 different tunings. Now, you got to own six different guitars, or youre gonna be out of tune because you cant really keep retuning one guitar because theyre not set up to do that. That thing there, the dark fire, blew my mind. Now, its pretty technical, and its been a while since i played it, but, basically. [ chords play ] and then if you select another tuning. Yeah, now youve got instant rolling stones. [ rock music plays ] but youve still got to be able to play like keith richards. Brittany yes. So, how do you know when picking out a guitar, just for someone who doesnt really play guitar that much, which guitar is right for you . You know what . Thats a great question. Whos your favorite band . Who do you want to sound like, to start with . Who makes you excited when you hear them . For me, the band the sex pistols changed my life, and even before i knew what a gibson or a les paul was, i saw steve jones playing a guitar that looked like that, and so id look at all the other pictures of guitarists, and they werent playing guitars that looked like this, they looked like that or that. I want one of these. If youre a green day fan, youre gonna want a junior. I think its a junior that billie joe plays. If youre a u2 fan, youre either gonna want a les paul, or youre gonna want one of these, which is a 335. Start off with that what does your favorite guitar player play . cause you aint gonna go wrong. Brittany and for kids who want to Start Playing and get their very own guitar, what do you need to Start Playing guitar . Really, you just need a guitar, an amp, and a cord to plug it in, and then you just need some imagination. Get your favorite song, learn how to play that, and then turn it up and play along with it. Thats the best buzz. I still get a buzz doing that. Brittany [ chuckles ] well, thank you so much for letting us stop by and check out all these cool guitars and hearing what youre up to now. My pleasure. Brittany its been awesome. Do you want to have a look around . Brittany i would love that. Let me give you a tour. Brittany thank you. Follow me. This is a nice guitar. This is a 335 gibson 335. Its very blues, its very, like, chuck berrystyle, but a lot of rock guys are using it now. The edge uses it on a lot of stuff. Thats a bass. Do you know why thats a bass . Brittany cause it only has four strings. There you go. Thats all you need to know is that bass players can only handle four strings. I believe this is called the explorer. James hetfield thats that kind of stuff metallica. The sound of the guitar depends on the wood and how much how heavy it is, how much wood is involved in the guitar, and, yes, it does affect the tone. I prefer more wood. Thats why i like the single cutaway of the les paul. Now, this should never be used unless your name is jimmy page. If ever i do not want to see anyone that isnt jimmy page with this because this is the stairway to heaven guitar. If you buy one, put it at home, hang it on the wall, and look at it. Acoustics are harder to play than the electrics because the action and the width of the neck is a different style. Thats the acoustic room, but i i dont. Brittany okay. And thats the gibson Beverly Hills showroom, and i hope you learned something. Brittany thank you so much for all your time. Its been great. Its been great. Thank you, guys. Im Brandon Johnson with beta records tv, and in the studio with us today is parker ainsworth. Whats up, buddy . What up . Good to see you. Originally from austin, now youre in los angeles, and you are living on a sailboat of all things. Tell us about it. Well, my journey was a myriad of different random vocations, ended up out here. I needed a place to say. I told people i wanted to live next to the ocean cause its really inspiring. I told them i had 300 a month to spend on rent. Um, you can imagine some of the smiles and open laughter that greeted that comment. I looked on craigslist one day, and it said, 288 a month, four blocks from the beach, laundry room, sauna, all these amenities, and it was like, whats the catch . You click on it, and its like, you have to buy my boat. And so i went out there, and the boat was a its a 1971 27foot catalina, and the most interesting thing is id never sailed a boat in my life. So i bought this sailboat. You just had to learn how to sail on the spot . Im still learning. I mean, its in the slip most of the time, but i stay there in between when im traveling around, and its how i managed to stay in los angeles, and its been the closest thing to home base ive known in the city, so its awesome. You recently challenged yourself to write seven songs in seven days. Yeah. Tell us about that process. A friend of mine, jessie payo, who you all just actually had in here, we were talking about songwriting and just developing a practice, you know . And jessie threw out the idea, have you ever done seven songs in seven days . At first, i was like, that just sounds like a lot of pressure to put on me, you know, cause in the past ive been too much of a perfectionist, you know, which can really put up way too many blockades. So, i moved them out of the way, and when i was back in austin for south by, i did seven in seven days. Out of the seven you know, you do seven songs in seven days, half of them are like, okay, theres something here, you know . Three of them, theyll probably get composted and something new will grow out of it. The other ones, keep in your pocket. You never know how theyll kind of evolve. You never know, man, how its gonna pop up, so. Also, i know one of the things that you do, you played all over and stuff, but youve also done, like, house parties. You played a house party recently. I love them, yes. How cool is it to play a house party as opposed to playing a big club or Something Like that . The quality of listening is just so phenomenal. Because when youre up there a lot of the time, especially if its just a solo artist, you know, youre broadcasting a lot of energy, and sometimes you dont feel like youre getting much back, which is okay. I mean, everythings, you know, a balance, eventually. But in those environments, like a livingroom concert, its so real time. People really feed off of it, and one thing i do, i do some improvisational stuff, and its a really great arena for that. Do you invite pretty much anybody thats in the audience to come up and sing along . Like, how do they get involved . The way that ive been doing it is i have this one tune called pulling back the curtain, and its just an open format where i ask for some input from the crowd three words, and then as i go through those three words, if they feel inclined, they throw more words at me, and then thats one way ive been doing it, and at the last livingroom concert, the lady who hosted me, she did sing with me on several songs, and that was just really beautiful. It brought everything together, where i realized that in some way, something that came through me was connecting to her, and that whole cycle is just really amazing. Bury me at sea to the last great mystery burn my ship far from shore ashes in the waves give the riptide my remains all thats left, youll know im parker ainsworth, and this is bury me at sea. We had questioned our direction for so long, wed lost our way when from where sea cliff met forest came a knowing leaders face with the brilliance of a mirror shining sun went dark at late leaning in as if to whisper a kiss to each forehead and say bury me at sea to the last great mystery burn my ship far from shore ashes in the waves give the riptide my remains all thats left, you will know you will know you will know you will knoow oh oh, oh oh you will know for my loving champions asking came an answer light and free for we found a skillful shipwright nearly on the coastal breeze ones supposed to build are often he replied so playfully only you can build a vessel designed by your imagination only you can build a vessel designed by your imagination bury me at sea to the last great mystery burn my ship far from shore ashes in the waves give the riptide my remains all thats left, youll know you will know you will knoow ohh you will know you will know you will know you will knoow so we built ourself a vessel made of fire, wind, and clay though its sight was hardly regal when the sea foam felt its weight it transformed before an arrow changing color, changing shape till the humble little sailboat becomes a bonfire on the waves till the humble little sailboat became a bonfire on the waves bury me at sea to the last great mystery burn my ship far from shore ashes in the waves give the riptide my remains all thats left, you will know all thats left, you will know all thats left, you will leave behind all thats left is gone away all thats left is all your love you will know you all know you all knoow oh oh, oh oh you all know
