Reporter news crews have been stationed here pretty much throughout the day and sky ranger was overhead as the speaker was taken into sf general. The hospital has made no comments except to confirm paul pelosi was brought here for treatment. But this afternoon a spokesperson for the speaker released a statement saying paul underwent Successful Surgery to repair a Skull Fracture and serious injuries to his right arm and hand. The statement also said that doctors expect mr. Pelosi to make a full recovery. That was Christie Smith reporting. Were having technical difficulties. Apologize about that, but she did say mr. Pelosi is expected to make a full recovery at sf general. That is the bottom line and very good news. Reporter yeah, theres a whole team of local and federal agents who were out here scouring this scene. I want to show you right now that at the moment there are there is a marked Police Vehicle that is posted out here, but for most of the day we watched agents and officers from local and federal enforcement move in and out past crime scene tape that had been setup here. Theyre trying to understand what led up to paul pelosi being attacked by a man with a Hammer Inside the house. Now, from sky ranger you can see an open glass panel door and a broken window next to it. Investigators say the suspect identified as david depape forced his way into pelosis home around 2 30 this morning. Sources telling us depape tried to tie up paul pelosi who was home alone and depape reportedly yelling wheres nancy. Somehow pelosi managed to dial 911 when depape wasnt paying attention. Minutes later officers arrived. When the officers arrived on scene they encounter an adult male and mr. Pelosis husband, paul. Our officers observed mr. Pelosi and the suspect both holding a hammer. The suspect pulled the hammer away from mr. Pelosi and violently assaulted him with it. Our officers immediately tackled the suspect, disarmed him, took him into custody, requested emergency backup and rendered medical aid. Reporter now according to nbc news depape told arriving officers, were waiting for nancy. After officers tackled the suspect, both men were rushed to San Francisco general hospital. Tonight depape is facing multiple charges, and in this News Conference we just heard we understand hes still in custody. And in describing further details of this chief scott basically tried to explain exactly how officers reacted and also talked a little bit about how this was this was not a random atact, this was a planned attack. He also got a little emotional in the description. Our elected officials are here to do the business of their cities, their counties, their states and this nation. There has been vandalism, in fact in 2021 there was vandalism here. But some homes say they actually do have security, private security. Obviously when Speaker Pelosi is here she has members of the u. S. Capitol Police Department that are part of her entourage. She was not here last night. She was in washington, d.
