About 1 30 this afternoon there was a muni coach and dump truck headed westbound on geary. And we dont know what created the or caused the accident at this point. Its still under investigation, but the muni coach rear ended the dump truck. Reporter police say it appears the dump truck may have slammed on its brakes in front of the bus. The bus then put on its brakes to avoid the truck but then hit a second truck. The drivers were uninjured but it was a different story for the passengers. Im okay. A little painful. Reporter the driver was tested for drugs and alcohol, which is standard after an accident like this. Theyll also be turning over video from that bus to police to help in the investigation. Heres a look from our helicopter that was over the intersection where a muni and big rig collided. Are they close to clearing the scene . Reporter they are. Crews acted fast. The big rig and train are gone. The tracks are okay and service here is back in action. Its been restored in both directions here on third street. It is a quick recovery after a chaotic emergency situation on muni this afternoon. Muni says there were about 40 people on the train when a big rig made an illegal left turn in front of it. Muni says the experienced train driver saw the truck and tried his best to stop, hitting the emergency brake and cutting power to the light rail vehicle in case of fire, but the truck hit the train. Witnesses say the impact sounded like an explosion, and people were hurt. Someone was crying very much, a lot of people was crying. Some were just hurt. Reporter San Francisco police say there were 20 people injured. 11 people were taken to area hospitals with nonlife threatening injuries, and nine people were assessed at the scene. The truck driver stayed at the scene for some time talking to investigators. He did not appear to be injured. The rig says its a title Transportation Services inc. Truck. There is a no left hand, no uturn sign here. The truck did make an illegal turn with a big impact, sending people to the hospital with injure y but, again, service ha been restored. The last muni accident with this many injuries happened in 2009. 46 were hurt when one train slammed into another at the west portal station. Its too bad. Reporter this 83yearold is helping out, trying to clear the water near her sailboat. To see all these little fish upturned with their white bellies up, its very, very sad. Reporter on wednesday night, a Massive School of anchovies swam into the harbor. There were so many with so little oxygen in the water they suffocated and died. Could be a hundred, could be a million. We just dont know yet. Reporter there are definitely more than a hundred. After filling up all the trash cans in the area, crews were called in to suck up the fish and haul them to a landfill. But many of them are still on the harbor floor. Once you pull it in, you quickly pull it so none of the fish fall out. Reporter Carson Gonzalez and his buddy have been at this all morning. The boaters appreciate the effort. It eats into your fiber glass. And when that happens the boat starts to leaking. Reporter when the fish start decomposing it creates slime in the water that you can actually see and definitely smell. The boat owners say they have to wait until these fish are cleaned out of the water before they can clean up their boats. New details now on the elderly driver who plowed into a busy sidewalk restaurant. The 90yearold man now has an urgent appointment with the dmv. The elderly driver is not expected to face charges in this crash, but they are notifying him to take an emergency retest to keep his drivers license. He has five days to comply. Six people are recovering from injuries in that crash. The driver accidently hit the gas instead of the brake while trying to parallel park. Getting an early start today did not pay off for passengers at the airport. Just as boarding was about to begin, an alarm went off and they couldnt override it manually. It took several minutes to develop a work around. It caused several delays. An angry protest kept several employees from getting to work on town. Two tech buses were blocked this morning. They represented seniors and disabled, who say theyve been evicted by landlords who can charge more. A man visiting relatives is accused of groping and harassing two women, one on the university campus. He is accused of touching and harassing women on two occasions, one on july 11 when he aggressively touched and kissed a woman. 11 days later a woman on the stanford campus reported a man forcefully grabbed her and tried to kiss her. Were moving one step closer to a movable median on the golden gate bridge. They will shut down some lanes to prep for next years installation. They say that the bus driver suddenly hit the brakes. There was a huge crash, but they didnt initially know what was the reason behind it. This was the 38l bus that they were riding, outbound. It collided with a dump truck. This was near laguna at about 1 30 this afternoon. The impact so hard that the front end of the bus was smashed in and part of the windshield lying on the ground. The dump truck slammed on its brakes in front of the bus. The bus slammed on its brakes to avoid that truck and hit a send truck. 12 people transported to the hospital. All were passengers on the bus and considered nonlife threatening injuries. The lane was closed for about two hours. The drivers were unharmed. So if you want to head there, might not be a bad weekend if you live in the tri valley, east bay hills, head on over to sf, do a little shopping or sightseeing. It will be more comfortable.
