Elevated security today at a high school, they continue work leads to find the man who entered the campus, tried to rob a former student and then pistol whipped another one. It happened at Silver Creek High School in san jose. And as our reporter reports, parents are on edge. Reporter the principal stood guard on campus, workers with the safe schools Campus Initiative also drove through the area, helping put parents at ease. Im very concerned, but i hope the school does everything they can to keep our children safe. Reporter do you feel confident . Yeah. I hope so. I hope so. Its a good school. And i hope Something Like this doesnt happen again. I have a 11th grade daughter here. Have had no problems whatsoever. The administrations been great. I brought her lunch today. But i do that sometimes. Theyre going to keep our kids safe. Reporter police are still looking for the man who entered the school yesterday two minutes before the bell rang and assaulted a student and a former student. At any time if you want to fence your schools off and have metal detecters, these type of things you have to prepare for the best. Reporter the superintendent says it has good surveillance footage. The Police Officer on campus did not feel he needed to call a code blue to shut down the school for two reasons. One, he saw the suspect leaving campus. So the imminent danger was gone. And two, the bell had rung, so students were already headed home. They will assign administrators and add visors to keep an eye out to make sure another intr e intruder doesnt terrorize their campus. Watch this. Its dramatic. This morning in the south bay, a car came flying off of 85. That happened near blossom hill and snell. Two cars initially collided with each other. And one went flying off the freeway, through a chain link fence landing in the parking lot of a car parts store. A woman and a child had to be sent to the hospital. One woman had to be removed with the jaws of life. They dodged trees to their point of rest over here. So luckily they didnt go head on into one of those trees. The people that were in the other car were not injured. Well, after 24 years, the new bay bridge finally has an opening date, and its a little over two weeks away. Opening date labor day week. That was the initial plan before they discovered the issue with the bolts. Theres going to be the opening, but people are going to have to suffer a little bit before it. Reporter thats right. The bay bridge is slated for a closure starting august 28th. Thats in less than two weeks from now. And even when the opening happe happens, the new span, its still much safer than the old one. Reporter even so, he says hed still rather drive on the old bridge before the new span is completely finished with repairs. The existing bridge is the one folks ought to be worried about. And thats the one they shouldnt be trusting. Reporter a short term fix is in place. A review panel concluded that the new span even with the temporary fix had a seismic safety level twice that of the existing structure. Two design firms independently agreed. We do recommend the installation of bearing shims to make the prinl seismically safe for traffic. And i do think we did our due diligence. Reporter safety was priority number one. But there was another major factor the numbers that show traffic is usually lowest around labor day weekend. Actually increased our chances of success because its going to be a lot easier to get trucks and other Construction Equipment to the bridge if you dont have as much traffic on the roads. Now we are this close to doing it. But im not going to be relieved until weve got that old bridge closed. It seems google is about to lease space in Mountain View. Were live at what used to be the mayfield mall. Reporter this deal is generating a lot of excitement on a few fronts. Google could be expanding yet again, which would be a good sign for the tech industry. And it could signal good things to come up and down the silicon valley. Its not a done deal, but experts tell me it wont be long until google is putting up its signs on what used to be the mayfield mall in Mountain View. When youre seeing applications being submitted to the Building Department and contractors being deployed on site and swinging hammers and nails, you know theres stuff going on. Reporter if and when google finalizes the deal to lease the 500,000 square foot building, it would be the largest lease deal of the year in silicon valley. What google would do with that space is a matter of speculation. It could be anything from General Office space to research and development. We dont know what they have planned for that specific space, but they are expanding not only in that space but next to their primary buildings by shoreline at nasa. So theres huge expansion with google. Reporter that expansion is expected to translate into a boost for the economy, not just for Mountain View but for the entire silicon valley. It means theres mo are money for pipe fitters, people who go to dry cleaner, to restaurants, to automobile sales. So its really a very hopeful sign that the economy is not just recovering here, but is moving forward. Its whats around it that is huge. And thats what is really exciting to know that were all going to be able to participate, all be able to benefit from this good news. The mayor said even though the city won arbitration it is still Offering Police a 5 wage increase over two years and a 4 bonus. We went into one mosque and saw hundreds of bodies lined up on the ground. There were families coming in looking for their loved ones. Some bodies were so badly burned it was unclear who exactly had been killed in this violence yesterday. And this might not be over because this division has not played itself out yet. The egyptian government, the military that took over and through the Muslim Brotherhood out is showing zero tolerance for these demonstrations. Its possible we could see more blood should. We also want to know the u. N. Security council held an emergency meeting. Tonight a family is mourning a family member. We spoke with a santa clara man. And hes now on the way to egypt for a memorial. Hes been on edge for weeks since he learns his brotherinlaw was protesting in egypt, fighting for the right to have his vote count. He says sadly this week his worst fears were realized. Reporter the man lives in santa clara, but his heart is in egypt. This week, watching violence in egypt was not only very painful but personal. His brotherinlaw was shot and killed yesterday while protesting. They said he was shot with a snipers shot from a chopper that was flying. Reporter he was just 37 years old, a devoted father of two children, ages five and three. He was an engineer who worked during the day and joined protesters at night. He was trying to stop a military bulldozer from taking over the square when he was killed. My brotherinlaw was so devoted to the case that he wouldnt let go and sit there and watch the Army Generals take control of the countryzlwn agai. Reporter he wanted to make sure his votes and the votes his kids will cast in the future will count. Its the whole nation and the way the egyptian generals are leading it. Reporter he plans to leave for egypt tomorrow or saturday. He says he was a good man who gave his life fighting for a better life for his family and all egyptians. New tonight, the state senate has approved a bill that would amend the krnttry old definition of rape. It would close a loophole in the law that resulted in a rape conviction being overturned because that victim was single. The law dating back to the 1870s specifies the assailant is guilty only if the woman is married. The state senate is taking steps to outlaw a growing trend on the internet. Its called revenge porn. People who post identifiable nude pictures of someone else online without permission could be faced with a misdemeanor, jail time and a thousand dollars fine. There was only one no vote, citing free speech issues. A victim was mobbed by photographers. Friends pushed away camera crews a o they crowded around her. California state auditors say an investigation shows tens of millions of dollars raised went to programs for people not diagnosed with any mental illness. The California Coastal commission is now investigating offshore fracking after it was revealed its been going on for the past two decades. At least 11 instances of fracks were documented. This weekend, a landmark hayward building is scheduled to come down in a pile of rubble. Warren hall is scheduled to be imploded saturday morning. Nbc bay areas joe risotto junior will show us. Reporter take a good look at the warren hall on the campus of hayward, it will be gone. Its going to tilt a little bit to the south. And its going to come down in a pile of debris lower than 50 feet tall. Reporter they have filled the building with over 400 pounds of explosives. The fall time is going to be somewhere between 7 to 8 seconds. Reporter they deem the building seismically unsafe. But scientists with the u. S. Gee logical survey hope thisijk wil provide some information. They are placing sies mow graphs to try to record the falling buildings impact. We hope to determine something about the hayward fault and how bad lly it shakes. Reporter homeowners have agreed to host it hoping that researchers will get a better understanding of the hayward fault. I dont want my house to fall down. So we are looking at the possibility of maybe some thunderstorms here on monday and tuesday ts about a 10 to 0 possibility at this point. And thats something well be watching very closely.
