Its important to understand, while we only may have one boat on the course is a fine tune time. Every race counts in a manner of speaking. Reporter thus no time is wasted when the ac72s are getting to run the course when things are less than breezy. It is a race of design and technology. The teams are trying out new toys, new tricks toward their ultimate goal of getting a faster and faster boat package. But right now, its sort of like professional bob terms Training Camp where theres scrimmages. And thats the scene from here at the americas cup. Ill send it back to you in the studio. Now i know whats going on. Yes, we do. Now lets see whats going on with the weather. Some of the interior valleys did get the wind, but the reason why we didnt get too much wind at the coastline. Its a very familiar pattern, when you get the fog too many days in a row, you dont have huge temperature extremes setting up near the coastline. You need those temperature extremes to get the wind kicked up. I think by friday and saturday that winds really going to be going here across the coastline and the bay. Not too unusual to see that happen on day three or four of a fog event. Also 70 in San Francisco. Oakland at 70 and santa cruz at 73. Were going to be going to 90 degrees, even a lot hotter for some of the east bay communities coming up in the seven day forecast. Lets get a live look outside. Brilliant blue skies in san jose. Driving to work today, it was hard to focus on the road, albeit, i did. Well also take you here to the Golden Gate Bridge where youre completely fogged in with some areas of drizzle at the immediate coastline. With it looking like this right now at 6 21, were not going to see too many changes by 5 00. The thing to note here is by 11 00 tomorrow, lot more sunshine earlier on for the interior valleys. Also a little bit warmer with conditions in the mid to upper 70s at 11 00. Your fog factor forecast does have all counties highlighted again being impacted by the cloud cover tomorrow at 6 00. By the afternoon, very typical again. The coastline will be highlighted with the fog staying at the immediate coastline with again, areas of drizzle on and off. So with our cloud cover in mace we do expect morning delays, possibly 30 to 40 minutes behind at sfo. The delays are decreasing. So its going to be Getting Better in new york city. On our three day forecast it starts to warm up by thursday and friday. Upper 60s and 70s at the coastline. By saturday of this week, one thing to think about is the drought across california. Right now all of california is in a severe drought. So we may actually have some water restrictions here as we continue throughout the summer. Okay. Thank you very much. Response to the last three nights of vandalism. Why the zimmerman case verdict caught them off guard. The daughter of a former Vice President announces a run in politics. Why republicans worry it could create problems. And a surprising find in a ship in the panama canal. Its an all next. Tonight, the Oakland Police department is facing heavy criticism to its response to violent protests in the past three nights. The protests come in the wake of the Trayvon Martin verdict. Some observers say police seem to be hesitant to intervene when things get violent. A recent settlement with occupy protesters might explain why. Reporter were here outside the restaurant where last night a waiter was trying to protect the windows from being broken. You can see here behind me that the windows are broken and the waiter suffered a head injury when he was hit in the head with a hammer. And he was not the only one hurt last night. These are very dangerous weapons. Reporter attorney is holding a flash bang that was used last night. She represents a group of occupy protesters who were recently awarded a 1 million settlement from the city of oakland. That is related to a 2009 case when protesters say they were mistreated during a rally in the oscar grant shooting. Unless the person can safely be shot at targeted away from the crowd without posing a hitting innocent people. Reporter as a result of that lawsuit, Oakland Police are now under federal oversight requiring them to adhere to a strict crowd control policy. That policy bans indiscriminate use of munitions such as flash bang grenades or rubber bullets and requires minimal use of force. Tonight the police chief says he doubts his officers had those lawsuits in mind when they were confronting protesters these last three nights. Thats not anything they told me. If its in the back of their mind, i guess it could be a possibility. But i dont think thats the case. Reporter the chief also responded to criticism that the vandalism and protests following the George Zimmerman verdict caught him and his department off guard. We didnt think it was going to happen over the weekend. We had our regular saturday units out there. And as soon as i heard that the verdict came in, i cam in to work. Reporter and the chief also said he didnt realize the jury was deliberating until saturday and Staffing Levels were normal that day. There are no protests that we know of that have happening tonight, but the chief says he has extra officers on patrol just in case. Thank you. Attorney general eric holder got personal today as he talked about the zimmerman case in florida. He told the Naacp Convention the martin shooting prompted talk in his own home. It prompted me to sit down and have a conversation my own 15 year old son, like my dad did with me. This was a father son tradition, i hoped would not need to be handed down. This must be done. Holder speaking in orlando, talked about the stand your ground law. This is such a polarizing case. Larry, this is a national story, of course, but were seeing it play out locally. The bay area has always been a hotbed of issues and protests. Reporter when you talk about race relations, yeah. Theres been a pretty uneasy history here. Over the past 30 years or so, the voters have made english the official state language, attempted to deny Government Services for the undocumented and eliminated affirmative action. Now all of this, of course, as the states population has become increasingly racially diverse. Sow can see the sensitivity here. Were seeing some violence and damage from a small percentage of these protesters. Reporter because of the pattern of controversial race related events, an example. In 1965, the watts riot occurs after thousands protested allegations of brutality. In 1992 again the riots occurred after several Police Officers who had been videotaping a beating of rodney king were akwitd. And later two were found guilty in federal court. And theres more. There was the 1995 murder trial of o. J. Simpson who was acquitted by a largely africanamerican jury only to be found guilty a year later in a wrongful death trial and fined 33 million by a largely white jury. And then of course theres the 2009 shooting of oscar grant by a white bart Police Officer who served just a few months in jail for grants death, much to the dismay of grant supporters. Thats an awful lot of examples, and we can give others. Are we Getting Better here in california . What do the numbers suggest . Reporter it depends on ones point of view. Thats the race issue. Some brief that africanamericans have greater propensity to commit crime. Others say they are singled out because of their race and are subjected to a racist judicial system. We know this. California prisons are filled disproportionately with people of color. Here are statistics that plea blow your mind. The biggest thing that stands out is that africanamericans are 29 of the states prison population. You can see theres a major disconnect here when it comes to africanamericans between population and incarceration. And its the case here. Its the case elsewhere. Nationally, one outkhkn of ever6 adult white males is in prison compared with one out of every 36 latinos. And by the way, if you look at african males between 18 and 24, it becomes one out of nine. One out of nine incarcerated. Bottom line. For man eye, equal justice remains a question here and elsewhere. And therein lies the tension. Thank you for your insight.
