You can see rescue workers plucking people to safety after they were trapped by the rising waters. Those evacuates and so many more are in shelters across the south bay. Some are wondering what these warnings came as late as they did. Dozens of evacuates have been coming in by bus. And yes, weve heard many people grateful for the rescue efforts but also, some evacuees asking why the warnings came so late. While some vac evacees were that you told to safety, neighbors gathered sand bags. You live with people, youre around ten years, you get to know people. Everybody just helps out. But as shocked residents gathered what they could into plastic bags. Some diapers, infant needs. Thats it. Thats all we can manage. Where are you going to go . Hopefully family. Some say they didnt get enough warning from city officials as to just how bad things would get. We get a call this morning to come back over here and everything is gone. They didnt have any warning. They said would it flood a little. They didnt tell us that this would happen. People should have had a warning. Reporter as to the warning, the mayor said a little earlier this afternoon that parts of the coyote creek breached so quickly, they didnt know it would rise anywhere near that fast. Scott budman. When we take look at the flooding, it is certainly something that happened very fast. Thats called nash flooding. You get so much warning that the water could go over the creek banks and produce flooding. But today again, just so much water coming from the reservoir. Little to no notice and thats what flash flooding is. When we ask you to stay away from the creeks, we definitely do mean it. As we get a look now, you can see these areas that continue. What im closely watching is rainfall. Another batch of moderate rainfall will ten into this area through 5 17 tonight so it will add to the water. A shred of good news, the coyotes creek which is producing all of these issues is slowly starting to drop. It hit a crest of 13. 6 feet this afternoon. Now down to 13. 2 feet. It may not actually go below flood stage until 3 00 p. M. Thursday. Were talking about several days of very high water where you may not actually be able to get back into your house. Speaking of which, areas under Flood Warning. Anyone living near coyote creek. We know we have these problems on highway 101 where it is completely flooded. The cars cannot get through. And then on east san jose, a Flood Warning in effect friday at 2 25. Do not drive through standing water. Please go the other way. We have a lot of rushing water. If you attempt it, you could get carried away in your car. So please watch closely. Major flooding happening. It is a new coyote creek river. It has never reached 13. 6 feet and thats why some of these flood plains did not know how far this water would spread. We have more in the forecast and another storm that could bring more flooding. Robert was the first reporter to show us pictures on twitter and he has the latest on 101. Well, were here at what crews have been calling the coastline. A flood shutting down the freeway. You could say it is caused by the breach right over there. But it is really from the relentless storm. The water was building up and when it broke through, drivers on highway 101 paid the price. As you see from the sky ranger, fwraert an Overflowing River went to the canal and caused a breach. The breach at the san jose morgan line created a flood. They allowed people through on the shoulder but after a car stalled, traffic stopped. Very, very strange. Ive been living here the past 20 years. I have never experienced anything of this kind ever before. Santa chaira Water District are. The recovery has been slow. Everywhere. This weather pattern weve had now is a first. Weve had multiple choesh urs all over the county. Big rigs were allowed to go through. Others who wait for hours were turned around. It has been horrific. I wish they knew ahead of time. Some of the images are jarring. Entire neighborhoods submerged. As you can see here, cars in this neighborhood completely under water. And the only thing visible at this property is this home along 101. And just down stream, coyote creek quickly submerged a second neighborhood forcing hundreds of others from the Apartment Building. A lot of families with Young Children just had minutes to get out. We arrived around 1 30. The flooding began around 1 00. You can see all the water. Take look. This used to be a parking lot. These bicycles were barely in water. Now theyre almost completely submerged forcing hundreds of people to be evacuated. They had just minutes. This water rising in their Apartment Building on south 12th street in san jose. She took what she could carry. It is really flooded. Happening without warning. In total, three Apartment Buildings with roughly 500 People Living inside. Mostly families were asked to heave. I left a friends house that was ten minutes away and i came back. Here the foorire department chief. The water continued to rise coupled with the potential hazard. We thought it was best to evacuate for now. They said we cant come back for three days. And back here live, you can see some residents getting back in to grab what they can. Most are staying at a nearby shelter set up at a high school. The other big shied is on sir Francis Drake west of fairfax. This main route to central marin has been shut down since last night. And this afternoon repairs stalled. The workers needed an excavator to come in and pull down this extra material. The problem is there are so many slides right now in marin county. That equipment is hard to get. In the past 24 hours there has been this one. And another on lucas valley road. Its happening all over the place. Eric lives if fairfax and says it is worse than what weve shown you. Places that you cant even see on the trails. Up there. It is everywhere. Weve just heard from the department of public works in marin county. Theyre telling me that closure on sir Francis Drake is just minutes from reopening. They say it will be reopened by 5 30. For the latest, check with the department of public works. To an area that has been so hard hit. That has been the reservoir. Through 5 45 tonight. Specifically at the site of the reservoir, we have a little rainfall adding to it. Still not good news. We need completely dry conditions for this to begin to rapidly start to drop. In terms of Flood Warnings, it is basically anyone who lives down stream here near the coyote creek. Youre under a Flood Warning through the east bay. Excuse me. For the eastern san jose area. Especially this area that has been hard hit. 500 people have been evacuated. In terms of coyote creek where this problem is coming from, the good news, were starting to see a drop. Going from 13. 6 feet earlier down to 13. 2 feet. We think of the drop. A long time here before we get some substantial relief, meteorologist rob mayeda. Theyve been watching the impacts of these storms. The bullseye up fortunate had he. If we look at some of the locations, we did pick up almost three to six inches of rain. Just ginls the beginning of the year. That does feed into the anderson veser vo.
