Weve learned the patient held here in isolation at kaiser recently returned to the country from west africa. Health officials do not expect that patient to test positive for ebola, but theyre taking every precaution. This patient is a patient that traveled to one of the infected areas, and had some of the signs and symptoms compatible with ebola. Reporter state public Health Officials say the South Sacramento kaiser patient being tested for ebola returned to the u. S. From west africa about two weeks ago. They say the patient is considered low risk. But kaiser has isolated the person until test results come in. Just because of the potential for ebola, just being very, very cautious, blood was drawn from the patient and a specimen sent for confirmation and testing. When we got the words last night, everybody kept asking, who is it, who is it. Ive been getting a lot of phone calls, theres been a lot of speculation. We dont know. Reporter the pastor of whats known as sacramentos African Church said the sacramento areas west African Community is very close. And people are panicked. It scares me. It scares everybody. Anybody who comes from africa, you know, especially from those areas, were afraid. Im afraid to go for my medication. Reporter Florence Brown knows all too well how devastating the virus is. She lost someone she considered a son in liberia. He died from ebola two weeks ago. Ebola, all your organs is busted. Theyre working to identify those people who have been in contact with this patient since the person became ill. Reporter Health Officials say theyre contacting anyone who has come in contact with the sacramento patient as a precaution. Folks at the African Church are praying. Im praying for you. Im praying that this is not the worst. Im praying that god can bring you through. Im praying this is not your end. Im praying most of all it is not ebola. Thank you, jodi. More details for you now on the ebola virus. There are five types of ebola. The current strain going around now is the least deadly. It has a 40 survival rate. The virus is not airborne, it spreads through direct contact with bodily fluids with an infected person. The risk of a u. S. Outbreak experts say is extremely low. Because of our health care infrastructure. West african countries at the center of the outbreak dont have highquality health facilities. A key question remains unanswered at this hour, was it a deadly accident or was a man pushed off of a freeway overpass. It happened on the industrial parkway overpass on 880 in hayward this morning. The investigation shut down part of 880 causing a very slow morning commute. The backup as you can see from our nbc chopper reached as far north as oakland. Michelle roberts joins us from the Hayward Police station with the details. Michelle . Reporter raj, i just spoke to an officer a short time ago. He said theres not much information he can give at this point. Investigators have been trying to solve this case, theyve been asking a lot of questions to witnesses, and people who knew the victim. Lets take a look at the scene this morning on 880. It caused a huge delay this morning. Just before 5 00 a. M. Chp was called to 880 south in hayward where a man was hit by a car, after he somehow went over the guardrail, on the industrial parkway overpass. Hayward police took over the investigation which could possibly be a homicide. Police arent releasing the victims name, but i did talk to a friend who believes this death is suspicious. He was a really good person. He didnt deserve whatever happened. He didnt deserve it at all. I dont think it was suicide. I really dont. Reporter the victim lived in a hotel less than a block away from the overpass. Now, neighbors say someone smashed his car window yesterday, and they believe he was in some sort of fight over a girl. Foley, whos 40 years old, had been missing since november 2012 when he was abducted in syria. Also, a grand jury began hearing evidence to determine whether the officer who shot and killed brown should face criminal charges. Browns killing almost two weeks ago sparked several nights of violent protests. However, last night there was a notable shift. Smaller crowds, and less violence. The event held here at most holy family Trinity Church was part of a nationwide effort, but the voice of that from san jose were from pac, naacp, faithbased groups and the family of oscar grant. So we say hands up reporter a multifaith gathering of Bay Area Community leaders used the rallying cry of many people in ferguson as part of a solidarity rally today. That forced crews to evacuate several businesses. It took an hour for pg e to cap that leak. Theyre working to fix the line. Criminal charges may be coming for the chp officer seen in the video punching a woman alongside the Southern California freeway. Authorities stripped officer Daniel Andrew of his badge and his gun. He was also removed from desk duty and administrative leave while prosecutors reveal the case. In the video youre watching right there, you can see the officer repeatedly punching the woman. Community leaders are calling for a federal civil rights investigation. Anyone whos ever thought that you cant buck the system should take note of a family who refused to back down. The 16yearold daughter got suspended from high school for allegedly fighting. Cell phone video shows she was attacked and the donnellys refused to accept the districts decision that their daughter was at fault. Mark matthews first broke the story when it first happened. The donnellys have won their monthlong battle with the School District. Reporter you remember the cell phone video, a little bit of a sensation when we first broke the story back in may. Here it is. The pictures show that donnellys daughter was threatened by two girls, because she was dating one of the attackers former boyfriends. They beat her up. The 16yearold fought back. And because of that, she was suspended for two days. Her parents went to the high schools vice principal with video of the fight. But it didnt make any difference. They accepted no new evidence that we went to bring to them, neither did the district on appeal. Reporter yes, the family appealed to the School District administrator. I went to show him the video, and he refused to accept it. I pressed play and put it in his hands. Reporter you get the idea that he does not give up easily. Failure was not an option. Reporter after the news media picked up the story, the district hired a private investigator and this week they got a letter from district headquarters. For the allegations that were validated by the investigation, the appropriate disciplinary action has, or will be initiated and taken. Reporter in the letter it is clear the district is talking about disciplining not the teenagers, but the school principal, vice principal, and district representative. It means theyre going to punish the administrators who screwed up and discounted our concerns. Reporter the man who wrote the letter is assistant superintendent jason lee. When we get new information that makes us adjust some of the decisions we made, especially when its doing whats best for kids, we make adjustments to the decisions we make. Reporter if that sounds a little roundabout, listen to what else he had to say. Were working on a story why the district is refusing to say what they were willing to put in writing. A parking lot fire burns five cars parked at the lafayette b. A. R. T. Station today. Firefighters snapped a photo of the damage. It took them about 20 minutes to contain the flames. They say it looks like the fire started in one car, and then spread to the four others. Thankfully no one was injured. They say it doesnt look like the fire was set intentionally. Remaining evacuees from a wildfire Near Yosemite National Park have been allowed to return home. It forced about 1,000 people to flee after it broke out on monday. Strong winds and dry conditions were fueling those flames. Theyre finally getting a handle on the blaze. It has burned about one square mile and is now 40 contained. Two firefighters did suffer minor injuries. This doesnt happen often. A Second Chance in baseball. Tomorrow, the giants will finish a game that actually ended last night. But not really. Heres the story. The giants were down 20 to the cubs in chicago in the bottom of the fifth inning when it started pouring rain. This happened last night. The cubs ground crew left parts of the field uncovered. So the infield was soaked. The game was called a few hours later. It resulted in a giants loss. But the giants filed a protest with the league office. Late today, the league sided with the giants. This is the first time in 28 years that a protest has been upheld. So the game will resume in the fifth inning. Giants trailing 20 tomorrow at 4 00 p. M. Just enough time to catch up and take it, right . It will be a threeday game basically. Lets turn things over to rob mayeda. We certainly could have used the rain they had in chicago, thats for sure. We have seen rain in Southern California today. But just the drizzle and mist that we woke up in San Francisco early. 67 degrees. Late day sunshine across the peninsula. Out towards the coast, look at the temperature around santa rosa, north bay only 70 today. Lots of low clouds lingering. 78 right now in san jose. Most of our temperatures at the late day sea breeze running cooler this time, about 24 hours ago. Take a look at the temperatures in concord and santa rosa. About five degrees cooler right now than yesterday around the same time. The culprit obviously is the sea breeze which we expect this time of year, quite strong, getting the cool air into livermore. Today, not much clearing in the north bay. You can see the low clouds, up to marin county and Sonoma County and obviously tonight more low clouds coming in. Any chances of rain for the bay area, unfortunately thats staying off to the east. We have thundershowers in lake tahoe, and the monsoon moisture will be anchored around the central sierra. In the meantime, the typical summer pattern we come to expect this time of year will play out again tonight with drizzle at times for the coast. We could wake up to drizzle at times around oakland. Tomorrow night well see the low clouds spill in once again. Cool versus warm, a couple spots around the bay area. San francisco climbing into the upper 60s tomorrow. High close to 69 degrees. If you want warmer temperatures, pleasanton, 86 degrees for you tomorrow. The longrange forecast kind of interesting here. We could see some heat coming back. Livermore now by the end of this weekend, into next week, out of the mid to upper 80ings, and it does look like we could make a look at a run to the mid90s next week. If you want to get summerlike heat, there is potential at the end of the sevenday forecast. 90s trying to come back in. But not for the upcoming weekend. He called the police nonemergency line, but said he was on hold for so long, he hung up. The coyote attacks are rare, and no indication that this coyote is aggressive.
