New details on the east bay amber alert which turned into a homicide investigation. Alicia ortez is under arrest accused of killing the father of her three children. He was found shot to death yesterday in the backyard of his home where he lived with his three children. Police say visits with their mother were always supervised. Obviously we felt there was some suspicious basic tifrt related to the mother. We werent able to find her or the children. That prompted the amber alert when they were found in richmond last night. Investigators expect to file more charges. Another School Shooting today that time in oregon. This is outside of portland. A gunman walked into Reynolds High School around 8 00 this morning. He shot and killed one student and wounded a teacher. He then took his own life. I found out he was in the gym and thats where i would have been if i was at school. Im glad i missed the bus. The shooting less than a week after deadly shooting at Seattle Pacific university. This is the 74th School Shooting since the new town, connecticut tragedy in 2012. Its what many kids look forward to at the end of the school year, getting their yearbook but they found some unpleasant surprise. A classmates name changed into a racial slur. We have reaction from the district and the students family. Reporter that students mother actually tells me off camera she does not believe this was meant to be hateful but does want this to be a learning lesson to know the difference between funny a hurtful. I think it was a joke but its definitely not a funny joke. Reporter marco, one of hundreds of High School Students stunned to see their friends name, more than just misspelled in this years yearbook. Hes a funny guy. Hes in my sixth period. We have fun in that class. Reporter student of the jewish faith after his last name was printed with the additional letters spelling ajew at the end. It was not caught by the staff. Reporter they are tracked down the student that added the slur. The student has admitted they were involved. The local Law Enforcement agencies are working with the student and trying to sort out the consequences. Reporter with books already printed, the district says they are asking students to return to put a new name label over the old one. This is a school thats blessed with diversity and we believer thats a collective strength. I dont think theres a lot of hatred. I think this was an isolated incident. Reporter the victims mother said i hope this is a teaching moment for the students of the the high school and everyone else. While this may have been a joke, the joke went too far. We see an increase in fireworks related injuries as we approach 4th of july. Police say he found 14 pounds of fireworks at his familys home last week. From the moment with the needle to the hours of nothing, theres not much to make her smile. Which is why its so great that should valerie need a smile, all she has to do is look at the purple polish at the tips of her toes. There you go. Reporter and think of the story behind them. Its something fun to get through this experience. Reporter valeries experience began last august. It was just about a month before her wedding to long time partner ralph when doctors told her the cough that nagged her for more than three years was something very serious, stage iv lung cancer. Just devastating to receive that diagnosis. Reporter the months that followed was a dark time but that is when with hopes of raising her spirits just a little ralph took valerie to get a pedicure. She went with her favorite color, purple and then so did ralph. He said he would do his toes purple as well to make his smile. Seem eed to work. She was laughing pretty good. Reporter it turned out to be the first of many smiles. Thats because after ralph posted a picture of their purple painted toes, a remarkable thing happened. Their friends started doing the same followed by complete strangers who had heard about what ralph had done. Hundreds upon hundreds of them. All painting their toes and sending their pictures just to make valerie smile. It touches my heart. It just really gets down to a deep level. The fun i think people have with it too. I want it to be really both. All right. Got it. Reporter it has become even more than that with the help of friends these wonderful gestures have grown into a fund raising campaign. One that has raised more than 12,000 for Lung Cancer Research and continues to raise the spirits of one woman who needs it now more than ever. Thank you. Still looks like the trivalley will be the warmest. Thats still a lot cooler than what we had on monday. Over the next five days keeps temperatures down to about thursday. The board of supervisors approved a ban on the electronic cigarettes. That means they will be treated the same way traditional cigarettes are. No one will be allowed to smoke e cigarettes.
