We saw many churches from the Central Valley that were represented here, from places such as turlock, fresno, even some from southern california. We understand a much Smaller Group of about 100 prochoice demonstrators were at market. This is the tenth year for the walk for life west coast. Many marchers say San Francisco is the best place for the rally known for its liberal politics. Its a tradition. I cant stop. Weve got to save babies. How many years have you come . Officers say they were doing a check on the building in the projects on the 1000 block of connecticut street 10 30 this morning. They opened the door, f least one squatter inside, and a dog, a pit bull that came running at them. One officer said he felt threatened, fired at the dog. Neighbors say the dog whose name was psycho was wellknown in the area. I feel like he really did need to get shot, though. Because he was a dangerous dog in the neighborhood. Police say no one but the dog was injured. The owner is under arrest for trespassin he could face charges if they find he unleashed the dogs to attack the officers. New details on the b. A. R. T. Officer who was shot and killed in the line of duty. Were now learning that another officer may have mistaken him to be an armed suspect. Thats according to the San Francisco chronicle. Sergeant tom smith died tuesday from a single bullet wound to the chest. It was fired by a fellow officer during a probation search in dublin. Sources close to the investigation told the chronicle the shooting may be the result of a splitsecond misjudgment by another detective. The Alameda County Sheriffs Office is investigating the shooting death. There are new reports theyre painting an inaccurate picture of what happened and more information is needed before making any conclusions. Developing story, a shooting at a crowded Shopping Mall in maryland. Some shoppers ran for their lives and others sought shelter inside stores. Three people are dead. Reporter in a matter of moments, a quiet saturday inside a packed maryland Shopping Mall turned into a terrifying lifeordeath drama. I heard a bang and i said, man, that sounds like a gunshot. Sounded like a transformer blowing kind of. And one right behind it. And then realized it was something was wrong. And started to see people run by my store. Reporter the shots rang out at 11 15 a. M. Inside the mall in columbia. Police were on the scene within two minutes. We have reports of at least three down at this point all on the upper level. Reporter police found three people fatally shot in a skate shop overlooking the food court. One was a gunman, a shotgun and cache of ammunition found with his body. The victims the two deceased, there was an adult male, an adult female in their 20s. Theyre both employees of the store. Reporter five people were injured. One shot in the foot. While many fled the mall, others sheltered in place. It took more than an hour and a half until police could give the allclear. But they say it will be some time before they know what happened inside the mall, and why. Brian moore, nbc news. Authorities are looking for a menlo park child molester. They say he missed a Court Appearance yesterday. He was found guilty in november of three felony counts for molesting a 10yearold boy. A bench warrant has been issued for the 50yearold. The San Mateo County District Attorney said hes missing under suspicious circumstances. His attorney in court yesterday represented to the judge that he is a missing person, and his wife had reported him as a missing person. And thats why he was not in court. Happening now, firefighters on alert across the bay area because of this unusually warm and extremely dry weather. This weather thats prompted an unusual request from cal fire. Especially for this time of year. Nbc bay area Kimberly Tere joins us live from san jose this evening. Kimberly, what is cal fire asking people to do . Reporter they are asking homeowners to create whats called a Defensible Space around their home. This is a warning we usually dont see until the spring. But there has been no rain. So let me show you, you can see the vegetation is very dry out here. And thats what theyre afraid of. In fact, in just the last three weeks, cal fire says it responded to about 300 calls, 300 wildfires. That have charred over 700 acres total. That compares with about 50 fires that burn about 100 acres total in a normal year. Cal fire says the fire season which typically ends in november, never ended. In Northern California, stations are already in the process of hiring additional seasonal firefighters to help. This is unprecedented in the history of the memories of the people who work around here. Us staffing our some of our fire stations this time of year in the wintertime. So we ask citizens to take the time to look around, see what they can do to make their homes more safe and have the 100 feet of Defensible Space. But an antioch woman slept right through it. A driver lost control of the car overnight, and went through two homes before landing upside down in a front yard on buchanan road near highway 4. She was on sleeping pills at the time of the crash and didnt hear a sound. I walked in there and checked to see if she was okay. I asked her if she was okay. She said yeah, and went right back to sleep. He says she was not hurt at all. The crash also took out the pg e curbside power box and knocked out power for six blocks. The city of oakland is taking steps to stop auto  thefts. Mayor jean kwan gave away 200 car locks to the neighborhood of oakland. They say thats where auto thefts are among the citys highest and they want that to change. The lower income neighborhood, it has a lot of the older cars that dont have the electronic ignitions. These people cant afford to have their cars stolen. While auto thefts are still up, nearly every category of crime dropped in oakland in 2013. That includes declines in shootings, homicides and residential burglaries. Take a look at this. You recognize any of these . Police in mountainview are working to track down the owners of several stolen bikes. The bikes were recovered this morning after police say they arrested a man seen stealing a bike. With the help of a witness and the officers quick response, he was taken into custody. If you think one of these bicycles is yours, call the police department. But youll be asked to prove its yours. If you shop at michaels, check your credit and debit card statements. They Just Announced today it, too, may have suffered a Data Security attack. South san jose 73, along with oakland. Across the bay area, our trees are in bloom. Believe it or not. This picture i snapped on my lunch break in san jose. You can see the dogwoods already starting to bloom. A sure sign we may already starting to enter into some of our early spring months. Of course, its just about a month away here in california, when we actually start to see the blooms. Coming in about a month early. For tomorrow, no change. Moderately high levels for alder, ash and also for juniper. Its all because of the warm temperatures weve been seeing. We havent had any rain. We havent had any real Cool Temperatures to allow for those trees to go dormant. Even right now as we look outside from the sky cam, were still in the 60s. We do have a high, thin, cloud deck sitting overhead. Thats because we have the area of High Pressure pumping in a lot of warm air from the south. And this thing is starting to break down. That is expected to actually move through as we head through the day tomorrow. So again, just a few high thin clouds. We start off with morning fog, even in san jose. 68 degrees by the afternoon. Not as warm. 70 for morgan hill. The peninsula, San Francisco, thats where youll see temperatures in the mid to upper 60s for the most part. North bay, east bay and tri valley, all expecting 60s for tomorrow. Unlike what we had for today, when places like oakland got to 73. Well be back to 67 for tomorrow. Even livermore got up to 73. Back to 69 for your daytime high tomorrow. Lets talk about the rain chance that i was telling you about. By thursday, you can see the cold front lines up across the coast. And thursday night, i would say after midnight, showers are expected to move across the bay area. Look what happens as we head through the day on friday. Really no breaks in this rain. So this could be some really good news if this computer model actually does hold up. It looks like friday could be a complete washout. And boy, do we need that.
