Tense moments for him and his owner in san jose. So when the tip came in we sent our ian cull out to talk to the dog owner and the vet. What exactly happened here . How did this even happen . Audrey, a routine walk. We all take our dog out, they sniff around. You move on and everything is fine. Thats what David Espinal said when he walked loki near his apartment complex. Everything was fine until they got home. He wouldnt relax. The dog kept running back and forth, wouldnt get tired, and that is when he figured that something must be wrong. Very weird for sure. So what did he do next . He took loki to a 24hour vet clinic. Medvet san jose. They say they see one or two of these cases every year but now theyre seeing one to two a month. They say his temperature was 108 degrees, his heart was racing. They gave him a quick urine drug test and it came back that loki somewhere ingested meth. I didnt think he could just rummage through the bushes and find meth. So you said that this isnt rare anymore, right . Were seeing it more often . It used to be rare, but now its more common. In just the past two days, too, theyve seen two cases. Typically the dogs come in, they are dehydrated. They have that High Temperature. They say, yes, this, unfortunately, is becoming more and more common. We definitely give sedatives. They present with a High Temperature and so its kind of trying to cool them down to get them through that phase. Luckily both dogs are okay. Loki is doing just fine. Theyre checking with blood tests. Its been a scary day for parents, students and teachers at six different schools across the bay area. They were all sit with fake shooting threats. This is what it looked like at Lincoln High School earlier today. You could see here so many concerned parents came early to pick up their kids from school. A lot of Police Officers as well. Go ahead and take a look at this map of the six schools that were targeted with this hoax. San francisco, observing, the peninsula. They all started with someone saying they were on campus when shots u to every single campus to find nothing and then classes were back to normal once the all clear was given. And it has been two weeks since six people were shot at an Oakland School complex. Today Oakland Community leaders called on washington for help. Mayor libby schaaf hosted a roundtable on violence prevention with senator alex padilla and congresswoman barbara lee. Were committed to increase investments in counseling services, not just violence prevention but intervention, educational opportunities. But were not starting from zero. Several programs utilize violence interrupters, young people who are able to prevent the onset of whatever is about to take place. Thats a unique and creative approach. We need to bring it to scale. Lee is a member of the House Appropriations committee, and she says she is working to get more federal dollars committed to those programs. Right now we are talking to senator others about the violence in oakland. We will be joined at 5 00 with more on the action the lawmakers are promising to take. You dont need me to tell you making it in the bay isnt getting easier. With Rising Interest Rates it doesnt necessarily mean youre paying less for a new house. Lets bring in our business and tech reporter scott budman. Scott, you keep an eye on the numbers, what are you seeing at this point . Lets start with the good news. Fewer multiple offers, less competition, houses are on the market for longer. All those combine to bring prices down. Well get to Interest Rates but even before they went up we saw the feeling that prices had kind of topped out in the bay area. All those things coming together weve seen prices drop on average about 100 to 200,000. Its still very high but its going in the right direction if youre trying to find a house. Lets talk about the buyers now. Theyre not all equal. Some are willing to pay more. Some will have to pay less. Can you talk about that . Sure. If you can pay more, youre not as affected by Mortgage Rates because you dont have to take out as large of a mortgage. There are many people in the bay area that flat out buy houses with Stock Options just for cash even if its 1. 5 million or more. Thats unaffected by the sudden rise in Mortgage Rates. The rest of us youre looking at perhaps a drop in the price, the sticker price, but youre going to have to pay a mortgage almost double than a year ago and that adds up to a much higher Monthly Payment, and thats whats keeping some people out of the market even though perhaps the price is coming down to their level. Sure, of course. So realtors are expecting prices to continue to drop. Im wondering by how much . So the National Association of realtors just came out with a survey saying they expect prices to drop by about 9 . Weve seen a 7 to 8 drop already this year so thats a fairly significant continuation of the drop. Now does this mean its still going to be unequal if you can afford to get in with cash . Youre really sitting pretty. On the other hand Interest Rates are likely to stay high. The recent numbers weve seen are jobs are pretty strong or still making money, likely to see even more Interest Rate hikes which mean Mortgage Rates are likely to climb and keep that Monthly Payment high. You are going to have to save more money even as prices go down. Its too early to call it a buyers market or a sellers market because so many people are saying, wait a minute, the economy is really moving suddenly. What do we do . Are we going to have to wait for a while . A little while. Interest rate hikes dont last all that long so eventually the fed will realize our economy is back on sure footing and, according to those realtors, the prices of homes should be lower then so maybe a chance to be a buyers market.
