Out here. Theres a lot of ash coming down and a lot of smoke. This five alarm fire started at 3 00. San jose firefighters had to call in mutual aid. It is still a very active scene. I counted more than a dozen fire vehicles and that was maybe ten minutes ago, more have since shown up. A fiveinch line has been pulled connected to a fire hydrant and a gun shooting 1,000 gallons of water at this fire a minute. When firefighters arrived the building, which is the former kntv station was fully engulfed in flames. This is a building they problems with in the past. There are vagrants who live inside. The wind, as i mentioned kicking up right now, might spark other fires. Firefighters say they are watching the area should any embers spark other fires. This is very close to home, also very close to the san jose training facility. There is heavy ash and smoke in the area making it very difficult to breathe. Please be aware of that if you live in the area, make sure to shut your windows and stay inside. There are dozens of witnesses and firefighters are asking everyone to move back as these winds are shifting. Again, a five alarm fire here on montgomery and park in san jose. Firefighters working very hard to put it out. They are also looking for two people who they say were here at the time when the fire started. They went back to talk to the two people who since left. They are still looking for that, those two people, if you know anything about the fire you are asked to call san jose fire. Live in san jose, kimberly perry, nbc bay area news. Quick question for you, i know you described it take little bit but that smoke is so thick where you are and its clear youre having trying to breathe at times, but you can tell us how far you are from the actual fire at this point. Reporter we are literally steps away from this fire. Were on the corner of park and montgomery here. I mean, we are maybe i dont know, i could probably run and touch the building right now if i needed to. Were that close. Again, the winds are shifting and so a lot of people are here watching and looking at it and they keep moving us back. But we are really pretty close to the building, maybe a quarter block away. I can see it now. The smoke was so thick before that i couldnt see those old studios where we actually used to work. Kimberly, reporting live from the corner of park and montgomery in san jose, a couple blocks from downtown san jose. We can see the outline and structure of that building that has burned right now. Were going to straight to rob mayeda to talk about the wind that is pushing it all over the place. We see the winds picking up right now pushing the smoke very low to the ground. You can see water canons deployed on the fire. Lets talk about the area where kim was standing, this area here south of our old station and park avenue right here and montgomery right here and kim standing about there, the northwest winds, the smoke and embers pushing low to the ground, this is the time of day, you get the sea breeze to pick up, instead of winds which were out of the north, more of a northnorthwest push. It will continue to get blown around as wind speeds pick up. Were seeing winds northwest at 6 Miles Per Hour and the air temperature out there close to 73 degrees. Relatively low humidity day as sea breeze picks up and see the humidity levels come back up. 73 degrees. Were going to be watching with the fire, the smoke and embers moving down wind possibly could start some spot fires in some of the vegetation south of that area. Thats the reason the firefighters are telling folks to stay out of the area and shut windows and doors due to the air pollution problem in that location. Over the next hour, we think the wind speeds will continue to pick up more around san jose, about 5 to 15 Miles Per Hour, late day sea breeze which youll see the winds increase as we head towards 5 30. Some gusts to 20 Miles Per Hour which means the smoke will continue to blow basically just the south there, just south of park area and to the west of montgomery here over the next hour or so as they continue to knock down the fire. Back in 2012, if not before that but in 2012 the Fire Department used that abandoned building, our old studios for Fire Training. Heres what it looks like right now. Obviously firefighters have gotten a handle on this earlier when we were looking at the pictures from 3 00, 3 30 today. Now the smoke is turning white, not as much smoke coming out of the fire right now and you can the fire ladder truck. The corner of montgomery and park, 645 park avenue. Rob and i both worked there in that building and closed down that building and moved over here did during one saturday or sunday afternoon. For right now, were changing gears and were receiving reports that 49ers smith has been taken into custody at Los Angeles International airport. Reports say he was put into handcuffs and escorted from the terminal. That was the video that a viewer just sent us. Officials at lax say the incident happened at 2 00 this afternoon. 49ers confirmed the arrest as well. The problems reported with aldon smith going through smith then randomly picked for a secondary screening, thats when smith became belligerent and uncooperative and also indicated at some point he had a bomb. They arrested smith. Chief investigator reporter has been working with his sources on this developing story and he joins us now on the phone with what happened. Tony, what do you have . Yet another bizarre twist in the aldon smith story. As you said, the la Police Department confirmed the arrest of a 25yearold from san jose and the 49ers confirmed he was involved in an incident yesterday. Were told the owedty will be officially released when hes booked into custody. Police were called to a bravo tango statement and this is a bomb threat, 17 seconds of video showing aldon smith in handcuffs and surrounded by four to five Police Officers and if you listen closely, 49ers superstar appears to say to police, you are embarrassing, you are embarrassing, ive done nothing wrong. That appears to be a cell phone camera video purchased by tmz. Some unconfirmed information, were getting different data this it started when he tried to make his way through the security Priority Club line. He was told he did not have the correct ticket type and may have developed that is unconfirmed at this point, but clearly something happened in and around security. Heres the question that can create even more difficulty for aldon smith. Did this arrest today violate the terms of his release on the weapons and dui charges in Santa Clara County . Were drilling down on that question right now hoping to have the answer soon, certainly within the next couple of hours. The other thing we must consider is how will the nfl respond . This is the third incident involving aldon smith and Law Enforcement in the past few years. Clearly more trouble coming to aldon smith, not only what happened in los angeles but the consequences of his two other arrests, dui and weapons charged. Diane, another bizarre twist. Absolutely. As far as we also there are no reported injuries at this point. You can see the smoke is white but its still coming out of the building right now. Theres definitely a lot of smoke getting into the area and sort of south of the area which is a semiresidential area and there are reports that there should probably or there is a shelter in place for folks living in that area. Well bring you more information as soon as we get it. We have new information right now on that deadly bus crash near chico. Federal investigators are on the xin about 20 miles west of chico. A fedex bus slammed into the bus carrying High School Students. Ten people died in the crash. Five were High School Students and despite witness claims that the truck may have been on fire before the accident, today investigators said the evidence points in a different direction. Our fire export reexpert reviewed the median and highway and found no evidence of fire before the impact. There is noz physical evidence of fire prior to the crash. Federal investigators plan to evaluate whether there should have been a barrier to help prevent a headon collision. Were also hearing from a survivor of the crash. The 18yearold is still recovering from burns to his face and body and spoke from his hospital bed about the horrific things he saw after the charter bus burst into blame. Heres this powerful story which includes details that could be difficult for some viewers. Miles hill has awoken from the same dream. After closing my eyes all i could see was fire and hear screams of person who were burning alive and i could hear the boom of the bus when it exploded. As a survivor its hard not to go back in time and remember all of the ways the accident could have been prevented. Our bus was late. It was an hour late. We were supposed to leave at 6 30. All of the buses were supposed to leave at 6 30. Miles says earlier in the trip the bus had been involved in another small accident that also led them to be in the wrong place at the exact wrong time. If that really hadnt happened, then the really bad accident wouldnt have happened. And when the moment did arrive, he watched from right behind the seat of the driver. He had time to move out of the way, but he was in shock just as i was and that prevented him from moving the wheel. Like other witnesses, miles disputes accounts that the fedex truck was on fire before the crash. It was in perfect condition. It exploded upon impact on the bus. It was not on fire at all. Tonight there are things he wishes he never would have seen, after spending nine hours getting to know other students and chaperones who lost their lives. I watched him on fire before i kicked out the window. Then there were two, michael and madeleine, they were engaged. They died on impact. And i saw that happen. They sent us a tweet letting us know three bus lines are impacted by this fire as well. 64 and 65 and the highway 17 express bus line all run past and stop at the former studios so those bus lines are being impacted right now. All around us, let me show you whats going on right now as you mentioned, it appears much of the fire has been put out. Now were just seeing white smoke and it is dissipating a lot. The winds are shifting and making it very difficult to breathe out here. There are two ladder trucks and a deck gun, something that shoots 1,000 gallons of water a minute. Those three things are still very active here and again as weve mentioned, this is the old kntv building, very close to the san jose Fire Training facility. In fact as we look at winds, theyve been shifting around a bit. Westnorthwest up to 9 Miles Per Hour but it looked like just as she was giving us the live report, the wind may have been pushing the smoke due south of the area. Lets give you a closer view of the area thats impacted here. You have the shark tank up there to the north and downtown san jose towards the right and winds coming in out of the westnorthwest pushing over park area near montgomery and near 82. You can see the smoke is staying very low to the ground. Quite a few Industrial Buildings in park like areas to the south. The good news with the smoke plume turning white and coverage, we hope we see this become less of an issue. If youre down wind, stay inside as kim mentioned, especially if you have asthma or other as per tri issues because we have these winds and the sea breeze fires up and wind speeds will pick up, 5 to 15 Miles Per Hour and some gusts occasionally getting above 20 Miles Per Hour. So back to the weather right now we have dry and warming conditions in the south bay and rest of the bay area, High Pressure started to build in and helped to clear out our skies. Tomorrow morning, patches of low clouds, unlike this morning where you you had widespread fog. Tomorrow, one more warm day then well see some changes in the forecast. Monday shaping up like today. What will happen as we head into tuesday and wednesday, this ridge of High Pressure will weaken and it will allow a weather system to pass by to the north. Not going to bring us any rain but it will lead to cooling and highs dropping again another 5 to 10 degrees as you approach the middle part of the week. Tomorrow very likely the warmest day for first half of the week, 78 in san jose. 81 in saratoga. San francisco highs in the 60s. By 11 00 tomorrow morning, you may get close to 70 before the sea breeze picks up. San francisco very interesting tomorrow during the afternoon, youll start to see things cool down, peninsula temperatures pretty warm. Mid 70s in the forecast there. In the north bay, temperatures again in the same rage we had today. Napa close to 80 degrees. 78 in santa rosa. And notice the tri hf valley, we could get close to 85 degrees around sunol. A large fire burning right now near downtown san jose. Here are two pictures, the one on the right is when this fire was burning completely out of control at about 3 30 this afternoon. You can see all the thick black smoke coming out of the fire. Then on the left is what it looks like right now. That is a live picture. Just a tiny bit of white smoke coming out of that same area. Firefighters have clearly gotten a handle on this fire situation in downtown near downtown san jose. Right now lets check in with Kimberly Terry at the scene with the latest for us.
