We will talk more about the timing and a look ahead to the dryer weather and the weekend forecast. Thats coming up in about ten minutes. All right, kari, a mudslide in the los gatos mountains and the mountains a bochld los gatos wiped out three family homes. Those homes, one of them was knocked off the foundation and a woman was trapped with nowhere to go, and nearly no way to call for help. Nbc bay areas bob redell is live there, and bob, this womans story is really frightening. She didnt even know if the First Responders would get to her. Reporter and when you get a look at the property, you can understand why. Good morning to you, kris. This happened in los gatos deep in the Santa Cruz Mountains behind me where a mudslide swept through this family property yesterday morning. The owner dave tells me he heard a rumble. Sounded like a jet airplane was about to land on top of them. Then he said everything went. His daughter jennifer ray who lives there with him and her husband and Young Children immediately turned to Facebook Live for help. A massive slide. Oh, my god. Could someone please call . Or somebody, i dont know. Reporter jennifers concern initially was getting out of there. Their cars were swept away in the mud initially, and they couldnt drive out and they had Young Children so they wanted to get the word out. They didnt need the 911 call, but that was her initial action. This happened at 8 00. It started, crushed into a manufactured home where jennifers young sister lives with her young child. The home came off its foundation. Remained mostly intact. It continued downhill carrying large logs, rocks and debris, it swemt away three cars and buried the driveway in one to 2 feet of mud. Missed a double wide where jennifer and her Family Members were staying. Remarkably no westbouone was hu including her pregnant sister. The slide came down so fast. She couldnt get out. So, my dad came over, my dad lives on the property, too. And told her not to go because it would have swept her and the baby away. We live below her and all of a sudden all this water and everything started coming down, all this mud, so fast, and these giant trees. And my mom who was there visiting just kept screaming. Reporter her sister, the pregnant one, jessica, she was able to get out of her home. Though the door was jammed she wasnt able to get out on her own. Reiterate, everyone made it out alive, no injuries. Dave marzett it a had a bulldozer trying to move that mud, get access to the cars buried up to the wheel wells. His big question to me this morning is insurance going to cover t. Reporting live in los gatos, bob redell nbc bay area news. First responders had to hike in. That is really scary. Thanks, bob. This also happened in los gatos. Viewer sent this picture from sky land road left of my a creek. He said it seemed the unsuspecting driver in the blue van just drove into the abyss. The driver was able to get out and is okay. Wow. Well, a look right now, kris, at the highway 17 aftermath in the Santa Cruz Mountains. There was a slow go for drivers due to a massive mudslide between sugar loaf and vine hill road near Scotts Valley that has been a real trouble spot in recent weeks for the folks who live there. Right now only the southbound side is open with one lane going in each direction. This is some of the work being done overnight to try and clear that up. The hold up at this point is the crews are waiting for special equipment to clear up the mountain of debris without cause ing it to spill over. The removal process started yesterday, but there is still too much weight sitting on top of that heap. Cal trans is bringing in something called the spider which can safely remove the contents of the pile from the top down. Right now the best Case Scenario were being told is the lanes opening up by tomorrow. Well, its a bumpy ride out there with potholes popping up all over the bay area. This large pothole caused some serious damage to several cars on interstate 580 in livermore overnight. Look at the back up happening as a result of it. That back up happened for miles this morning as crews swoopd in trying to patch it up as quickly as possible. Up to six cars were damaged overnight. They all had to be toed out of there. A ups driver told us the pothole had been there since last thursday. He say he reported it to the chp. He also says up to 30 cars were damaged because of the pothole over the weekend. Crews hope to have it fixed by the evening commute. And a reminder that if your car is damaged by a pothole you can file a claim against cal trans. You can find that form at dot. Ca. Gov damage claim. Those are just some of the problems that drivers have been dealing with all day. I feel like we should start seeing again in all these spots. They keep happening in the same spot. Maybe that is your perspective as well as youve been watching the roadways and highways. Coming out of the altamont pass, it was addressed by cal trans a few weeks ago. Looks like a much bigger issue this morning and continues right now. The chopper shot jammed up and continues at least into the afternoon hours. Well follow this. It wont really affect the afternoon commute because thats opposite. Still watching that. We had 17 reopen both directions but there is traffic control. You will slow up approaching vine hill. The tree, watch 84 and 35. We continue with this closure for a 37, the flooding there in the north bay. In addition in the north bay a lot of local roads are affected by the floods as well. We have more of that. Send it back to you. Well brace for t. Thank you, mike. Crews are having trouble taking down a tree that went down on diablo road. The reason why is because when the tree fell, it took down power lines. So, once the tree is gone, crews still have to replace those power lines. Only local traffic will be allowed through as pg e crews do their work. The Russian River has been a problem for anyone living along its banks this winter. We saw severe flooding in the guerneville area last month and today the Russian Rivers waters crested at 6 00 in the morning. Right now theyre actually receding, but we have more storms that are about to sweep through. Nbc bay areas pete suratos joining us from guerneville this morning. Pete, you got a good soaking. This is a matter of perspective. Residents have seen worse than what youve got right now. Reporter yeah, thats right, sam. Good morning to you. In the newsroom, residents are saying this isnt much. Right now it is at 33 feet, the Russian River which is considered minor flooding. Were seeing flooding in the same problem areas right behind me, familiar from last month, this is neeley road. Looks like a lake obviously with all this water. While folks say theyre used to the flooding, its still a source of frustration. The Russian River flows along in guerneville. The river cresting at 34. 4 feet this morning causing moderate flooding in the lower sections of town. Its why residents like abraham stays prepared. His Housing Community once again flooded due to the river. Maybe three, four times the flood. Reporter flooding from the nearby river becoming a source of frustration as he trudges through knee high water to inform his Family Members inside. When i come back, my house, the water is more high. Reporter but the river levels are only causing moderate flooding, not much canoeing like we saw during last months storm. But things could change with those rainy conditions. Now, the river is still in the minor flood stages through the rest of the evening, but its expected to pickup again later this week. Were live in guerneville, pete suratos, nbc bay area news. All right, pete, thank you so much. I know you use this when youre out in the field. The nbc bay area app. It is the best way to stay ahead of the weather and best of all, it is free. We are waiting for that landmark decision on President Trumps travel ban from the 9th Circuit Court of appeals. Its a decision that could come any time today or perhaps before the weekend. Nbc bay area will bring that to you as soon as we get it. But in the meantime, President Trump says the court should uphold that temporary travel ban. He made those comments just a few hours ago while speaking to a group of First Responders and Law Enforcement agents in washington, d. C. Today. I think its a sad day. I think our security is at risk today. And it will be at risk until such time as we are entitled and get what we are entitled to as citizens of this country. I dont ever want to call a court biased so i wont call it biased and we havent had a decision yet. But courts seem to be so political. Trump says he watched Television Coverage of the oral arguments before the judges yesterday and says, quote, i heard things that i couldnt believe and it was disgraceful. No matter what the judges decide, the case is likely to end up in the supreme court. Kris, up next at 11 00. Incredible. Mother nature in action, all of it caught on tape. This home destroyed by a mudslide. The trouble spots that are being very carefully watched. And Facebook Says it wants employees there for their families, the big benefit the tech giant is giving to its workers. Plus at least two cases where the white house seems to be pushing the trump Family Business. Well take a look coming up in business and tech. Welcome back. If youre going to take some positive out of what were seeing on the radar right now, at least its mostly green, not as many yellows. It is mostly green, not too terribly through, but wet, kari. Look at all that, green covering the whole radar. The green monster. Accept for santa clara valley. Thats wrp we havent seen much of the rain. Its still in the rain shadow, and elsewhere. It looks like this. Its just pouring and drivers dealing with some sloppy conditions throughout this day, throughout the morning, and it will continue into the afternoon. And then you head down to palo alto, not as bad, but still at times we have some rain moving through and it looks all green here on the radar. As this Atmospheric River continues to stream in moisture and it is supposed to be our break today, but we are not seeing this rain letting up. And really problematic for the north bay where weve seen some pockets of some heavy rain, we are seeing a little bit of some yellows there, but not as much red and orange indicating some really intense rain. That comes early tomorrow morning. Looking now still some rain stretching well offshore. So, this tap of that deep moisture will continue to move in throughout the afternoon. This is what it looks like on the computer model, showing that even at 2 00 or 3 00 in the afternoon, in the north bay, maybe letting up south of San Francisco and over to the east bay and trivalley. We see it kind of lifting to the north. This is he actually a warm front so you notice the difference, how it feels so warm and moist in the air today. Humid, spotty light rain, but this may be our small window to get a chance to dry out before this line of rain moves in ahead of the cold front and some pockets of some really heavy rain tomorrow morning during the commute time. And it continues into lunchtime as well as it advances into the south bay, the peninsula and the east bay with some gusty winds as well. So, we will have several more hours of some heavy rain. Expect it to move in by tomorrow, and then it dips to the south with some cooler and dryer air moving in just briefly, and then there may be another wave of some rain on friday. A lot going on here. Wind advisory in effect. This is in effect for the coast and the hills. All these areas shade ed in brown, that will be in effect until 4 00 thursday afternoon. Those winds may pickup to 50 miles an hour. Winds not bad, 15 miles an hour near the coast. Look at the forecast, shows those winds coming in from the southwest, along the coast line 35 miles an hour early tomorrow morning. Here we are at lunchtime. The winds moving in at 35, and possibly up to 40 miles an hour in the inland valley, still at about 25 to 30 miles an hour. Getting a view of whats happening also for the sierra, its raining. This is the view at truckee. They may see some additional snow fall, but it looks like this mostly comes down as rain. But at nighttime they may have the potential of still getting another foot of snow and then five or maybe even 6 inches of rain for those areas. Much of the inatlanta valley getting about another half to an inch of rain, and it will be a little bit higher in spots. Well keep an eye on this, of course, it dries out for the weekend so well talk about that in my next micro climate forecast. Here it is again to see in the north bay, Severe Weather in action. We watch that in slow motion basically as that land slide rips apart a home in san rafael. The homes owner is the person that was taking the video and then sent it to our newsroom last night. Fortunately no one was hurt, but the family is now without a place to stay this morning. I went back in to get my wife and my son, and at that point there was a slide that came down and started coming through the kitchen window. They got out in time thankfully. That family left without a home in san rafael, to significant damage farther north. This mudslide in napa could take a week to clean up. Fortunately the napa river is dropping to morning. It crested last night closing part of memorial park. And a putrid problem on the peninsula. More rain could mean raw sewage could start to pour into a Mobile Home Park in red wood city. This is what things looked like last night. This is not the first time that happened at that Mobile Home Park. It is along West Bay Shore and it took on water as the pipes backed up. A mixture of flooding and raw sewage forced people out of their homes. Again, this is history playing out once again. A year ago a flood forced some of those homes to be red tagged. I remember. I was there reporting on that one. During the current debate over immigration, we discovered a group of people who were promised a path to citizenship who were then later deported. Were talking four nationals who served in the United States military who are offered citizenship in return. But our Investigative Team discovered hundreds of these veterans who committed a crime after they left the service and who were then deported. Tonight Senior Investigative reporter tracks down many of those in tijuana mexico where they now live hoping to get a chance to come back to the country they were prepared to die for. My allegiance is not to the United States, i was born in mexico, but my allegiance and who i choose to die and fight for is the United States of america. Federal immigration Officials Say they are merely enforcing a law passed during the Clinton Administration that allows deportation of anyone committing a crime on a long list, and that includes some minor infractions as well. And scott mcgrew says that this is the white house promoting Family Business . And they said specifically they would not do that, sam and kris. But heres the president criticizing nordstrom. He writes, my daughter ivanka has been treated so unfairly by nordstrom. Shes a great person, always pushing me to do the right thing. Terrible. Nordstrom shares fell a bit after this tweet. Nordstrom says the ivanka line is not selling well, by the way. We do try to see both sides, but its hard to interpret this as anything but a sitting president pushing a Family Business. The first lady, meanwhile, is denying reports she wants to profit from her position selling products like shoes and cosmetics. Earlier this week Melania Trump sued this british newspaper, daily mail, for what she said were slanderous lies and said those lies would affect her ability to make money as our first lady. The sued filed earlier this week by her lawyers says she had the unique once in a lifetime opportunity to launch a broadbased commercial brand, make millions if she becomes one of the most photographed women in the world over the next few years. But her lawyer said this morning, the first lady has no intention of using her position for profit and will not do so. Now, two sides to every story, right . Keep in mind the person that said this and the person that said that are the same person, and they said it within the same week. So, youve got fact and counter fact, back to you. Right. The first part, of course, being in a lawsuit in writing. Scott mcgrew there, thank you so much. For those of you wondering did President Trump tweet his support of his daughters business from his personal account, from the president ial account, it was from his personal account and then someone retweeted it from the official white house account. Weve seen mudslides, trees coming down, and drivers stranded in all of the flooding. It has been a hectic and dangerous week. Certainly last couple days here, most of us getting a bit of a break from the rain although you see a lot of rain, a lot of green i should say still out there on the radar. We have moechl of our crews devoted to this story that is having a major impact in our area. Lets bring back kari hall to talk about the timing of the next storm and the one after that, kari. Kris and sam, at least were not seeing a lot in the way of heavy rain, but its just been steady and coming down for hours. So, that can cause just as many problems as weve seen yesterday with the rounds of heavy rain moving in. So, you see pretty much all the bay area getting in on some rain, but its kind of skipping around parts of the south bay. So, thats where we have a little bit of a break and a chance to dry out. Havent measured much rain there, but then you head up towards San Francisco and into the north bay where the rain is still really coming down in those spots that had to deal with evacuations and flooding just yesterday. And a lot of rain still extending well offshore. Ive been looking around terrain fall totals. Anywhere from a half an inch to over an inch of rain and it looks like there still may be some more on top of that before this next round of heavy rain moves in early tomorrow morning. Well talk about that time line and get a look ahead to a dryer weekend forecast. Thats coming up about 11 45. All right. We look forward to that. Thank you very much, kari. Well, right now highway 84, niles canyon, is open after lanes in both direction were shut down for 12 hours yesterday. Flood waters from Alameda Creek and debris were to blame. Cal trans workers say they need a break from all this rain. Pretty bad. Ive never seen the water come up that far. We got it done. They did get it done. This is what highway 84 looked like when it was all said and done. The flooding came from a combination of flooding drains and the creek. The highway didnt open up till 8 00 last night. The kreelk between menlo park and palo alto is also teaming. Menlo park mayor posted this video on twitter and the creek reached flood stage. Yes, flood stage yesterday. This picture warned people. Thankfully the creek is receding right now. This is all the debris pulled out of the creek and the scene is playing out all across the bay area again today. All right. This might be up for debate now, kris. Despite all of the rain weve seen and the fact that much of Northern California is now officially out of the drought, there is still a possibility water restrictions could last longer. Today state water regulators in sacramento are going to be considering a recommendation to extend those regulations at least through the spring. Thats when Governor Brown is going to have the final say in that decision. Water restrictions were first implemented three years ago. As weve been talking about, this is on again off again through friday. You can download our app to see exactly what is going on in your neighborhood and get updates right to your smartphone. Turning to other news now samful. Yes, we are. Police tell us about a clue in a mysterious case. Were talking about the vet of a novato woman. Police were on another call when they heard the gunshots nearby. They found the 27yearold richmond man who had been shot several times lying in the street. Several parked cars were also hit by those bullets. Police say witnesses at the scene are not cooperating with investigators. Kris, it was likely one of the most emotional days to date in a high profile trial. The mother of sierra lamar testifying yesterday about the day that her daughter vanished. Marlene lamar sobbing on the witness stand as she recalled that her daughter said, i love you, mom, on the morning that she disappeared. Prosecutors played a frantic 911 call in court. Later marlene was asked to identify her daughters purse, her jeans and her sweatshirt found in a field near their home. Sierra disappeared nearly five years ago in morgan hill. We are continuing to follow that case. In the meantime more details in the case of three Santa Clara County jail guards beating a mentally ill inmate to death. Yesterday a judge ruled that the jury is going to get to see some of the Text Messages from at least one of the guards. Those guards are accused of beating michael to death in august of 2015. They pleaded not guilty and have been on paid leave since. Tyrees body was found. They say the messages at least one of the guards enjoyed seeing the inmate suffer. And now we expose an unlikely type of crime in San Franciscos north beach. Nearly two dozen men claim they have been ripped off thousands of dollars at strip clubs. Investigative reporter jackson tells us San Francisco police are taking these unusual allegations very seriously. I was robbed. Reporter steve doesnt want to show his face for security reasons. He has quite a store toy tell about what happened just before christmas in 2014. I was lonely, passed by little darlings and a couple of very attractive women said, hey, where are you going, buddy . Reporter he says he give Little Darlings Club security his drivers license. After 90 minutes he told us he expected to pay a 200 lap dance tab. But the dancer told him his credit card had been declined. He had to take money out of the atm to pay her. And when i got home, i had, you know, the bad feeling and i checked my balance and it was emptied. Steve complained to his bank about the 2,500 charge, but they sided with the club in the dispute. They pointed to his signature on the receipt. I didnt sign a receipt no [ bleep ] way. In the police report, steve relayed his fear that the club got his signature off his drivers license. Now out of a lot of money, steve says he hopes others will learn by his experience. Police meanwhile say they have more than 20 similar reports. We dont really know exactly whats going on. We know something is definitely going on. Reporter we obtained a 2015 San Francisco Police Department search warrants for Club Financial records. It details how six patrons, many of whom admitted they were drinking beforehand, were allegedly ripped off. One reported to police that he went to the new century club sober in early 2014 only to wind up in the hospital. He said he believed his beer was drugged. Tes tests showed cocaine, meth amphetamine and a common cough syrup drug in his system. The club billed him for 11,400. Perhaps the most surprising allegation, the garden of eden club. One patron said he had a beer and passed out. In just over an hour he was charged 10,000. Then 11,. 500, then 23,500. Finally, another 45,000. Alleged losses now top 300,000. The four clubs named in the warrant is under investigation are tied to the same seattle based entertainment company, day gentleman view. One representative told us they were not aware of any probe. In a statement they say the four clubs are independently owned. Due to our business, we go to extraordinary measures to ensure the patron is aware of the charges he is incurring. Fingerprinting to videotaping each and every transaction. At no time is the dancer able to process a credit card charge without the patron present. Nearly all, 99 of billing disputes are resolved in their favor, they told us, thanks to these procedures. Steven clark, a former prosecutor, turned defense attorney believes authorities could have trouble making any case stick in court. They will attack the kreblts of these victims by saying, you got yourself into this mess. And just because you now wish you hadnt, that doesnt mean that our clients committed a crime. People go out to celebrate or go out to do something, watch how much you drink, watch what you drink. Use the buddy system. Reporter it might be awkward, but steve says he just wants to make a stand. If you dont stand up and fight back, youre going to be robbed all the time. And i dont want to live like that. Reporter in north beach, jackson der beck en, nbc bay area news. That is a lot of money. Tens of thousands of dollars. All right. If you have a tip for our Investigative Unit give us a call. 888996tips or send us an email to the unit. Coming up, devastating tornadoes hit louisiana. Well keep tracking our own micro climate weather alert. More gusty winds and rain in the forecast even as we still have some rain pouring across the bay area. Well talk about the time line of the heavy est rain and when it all wraps up in the micro climate forecast. A condo owners car is towed from his assigned parking spot. Im consumer investigator chris chmura. Nbc bay area responds with help for him plus important advice for everyone else. Next. So, our reporting this morning took us up the altamont pass. We saw puddling. And potholing. It is so saturated. It is saturated but it is good see those green hills. So pretty. Yeah, and all we needed was some sunshine to turn this thing around. And we are looking now at more rain drops. This is what the drivers have to deal without there. Windshield wipers on, and it doesnt take a break for us. At least not for a while. Even though the south bay still seeing some drying there, and you will at times see some showers moving through, but nothing compared to what were seeing elsewhere across the bay area. With some pockets of heavier rain moving from San Francisco over towards east bay right now, and the north bay is also seeing a steady downpour all morning long. We see that wall of water still well offshore. A lot of green here. So, some deep subtropical temperatures continues. In the north bay, marin county and also for napa and sew lan owe county and sonoma county, thats where weve had major issues with some flooding. And weve had rainfall totals today up to an inch. And looking now from stump town brewery at guerneville, Russian River, you can see those trees just standing in the water. So, this is kind of a view well have to get used to, at least until the start of the weekend. So, keeping an eye on the Russian River at guerneville, expected to continue to fall. And then look at what happens as we go into the next round of heavy rain. On friday morning, it will be peaking again above flood stage. So, all of the residents there not catching a break as weve seen the water levels going up and down. It will go up again one more time. Still some heavy rain moving through during the afternoon into the evening commute, finally starting to see some drying out there with some more spotty and light activity. And were getting ready for the cold front to sweep through. It will bring in a round of rain from north to south along with some gusty winds and still into the afternoon to evening hours. The east bay, south bay and peninsula will see some rain. And then another quick moving shower moving through on friday. So, fall totals on top of what weve already had maybe another 2 plus inches of rain for the Santa Cruz Mountains. For some of the valleys looking at another about an inch of rain. We see the Atmospheric River still really streaming right into the bay area, producing quite a bit of rain. Ive been keeping you up to date on all of this, on facebook and twitter and i definitely appreciate the reports of how much rain youve had in your rain gauges and looking ahead to the weekend for the bay and inland areas. It will be nice and sunny. Temperatures warming up into the 60s, sunday looks even nicer with some warmer weather. And this weekend, of course, that break we need from all of this rain, kris and sam. We know its coming here very soon. We can see the end of the horizon here. No kidding. Well, not the case for thousands of families in mississippi and louisiana who are still picking up the pieces after their several tornadoes tore through their towns yesterday. Some of them were in new orleans and they said the destruction they suffered this time was more frightening than what happened during hurricane katrina. More with the story. Reporter the damage is sporadic but extensive in some areas. Thankfully no one was in this home when the tornado struck. It used to be over there, but the powerful winds lift it had off the ground and tossed it to the other end of the yard. Today residents here are trying to salvage what they can. Its a devastation. This morning parts of the south are in shock. After fast moving storms pounded several states. Its all gone. Reporter the ferocious winds flipping over this truck and tossing it down the road. Oh, my god, look at this. Reporter tornados sliced through several parishes in louisiana. Among the hardest hit, new orleans east, some of the same neighborhoods ravaged by katrina more than a decade ago. Reporter she remembers it well. She was out of her home a year after the hurricane nearly destroyed it. Now this. This is overwhelming. With the hurricanes, you have an opportunity to leave. With this theres no opportunity. Reporter thousands of people left without power. We shouldnt be here. Reporter edward noel and his 83yearold mother barely survived when a tornado ripped the roof off their home. It was scary.
