The extreme heat continues for not only us but other areas. The Southern California extreme heat is causing problems for firefighters trying to knock down the wildfire near santa barbara. Its one of the dangerous fires burning in the southeast and southwestern parts of the united states. We get a report now from Steve Patterson who is in goleta near the sherpa fire. Were tracking a series of wildfires all over the southwest. Now stoked by triple digit recordsetting heat. Here at the sherpa fire, theres 2,000 firefighters that are checking for heatrelated injuries. We had three of them as they had to be air lifted off the line. They have about 50 containment on this fire but its not the only fire in the region. In arizona, the cedar fire has charred more than 12,000 acres. And in new mexico, that doghead fire has burned nearly 24 homes and charred more than 17,000 acres. Its terrifying. Its just like you cant imagine and you just want to run. Not to mention, just the heat alone. Were talking about four heatrelated deaths in arizona. Two of the victims, were learning, were in their 20s. It really speaks to how dangerous this fire is. Oakland police says that it was another fan who pushed him from the upper level. So far, no arrests but opds felony assault unit is investigating. Heat is to blame for at least four deaths in arizona. Authorities say all of the victims died in separate heatrelated emergencies while hiking. A 28yearold personal trainer is among those victims. We have talked about the sizzling temperatures across the southwest and its all because of this High Pressure that builds the heat and causes the air to sink and as it sinks, it warms. And that will be very stagnant, slow to move over the next couple of days. So in parts of Southern California and also around the desert, palm springs, it will be up to 120 degrees today. Winds are coming in from the north. Not an onshore flow but the winds are weak as well only coming in at 5 to 10 miles an hour. Half moon bay, a little more breezy there. Wind speeds coming in at 16 miles an hour. Later on this evening, winds are staying mostly calm and our temperatures are heating up with all of that sunshine coming in. Over the next three days, expect highs in the south bay to stay in the low to mid90s. In the peninsula, upper 80s there and in San Francisco, were at 79 today. 75 degrees on wednesday and a couple of spots reaching the low 80s there. But were looking at some 90s in the north bay as well as the trivalley while the east bay stays in the lower 80s. Now, the average high for san jose is up to 81 degrees. Well be up to 90 degrees for tomorrow and well stay above average even into the next several days and the end of the week. San francisco, with a high of 80 degrees without air conditioning, that definitely feels very uncomfortable and youll see more of that into the weekend. So looking ahead into the weekend, the forecast will still have the 90s that we had yesterday. So this will be a prolonged heat event with some of us staying well above average into the rest of the week, even into next week. It doesnt look like the heat will start to back off even then. California is one of five other states that have similar assault weapons banned. The High Court Today ruled police can seize evidence in an unconstitutional search if they have first established that the suspect has an outstanding warrant. Police there say it was all to free a suspected drug trafficker. This all happened in rio. Police say at least five men attacked the hospital before dawn to free that suspect who was being treated for gunshot wounds. Witnesses say there were as many as 15 gunmen outside during the attack. After a shootout with police, the suspect and all of the gunmen took off. That same rio hospital is designated to treat tourists during the upcoming olympic games. A rare and Dangerous Mission is under way to rescue a sick scientist in antarctica. Hes at the National Foundation south pole foundation. Up to 120 degrees in palm springs. And weve also been seeing the stories about the heatrelated deaths around arizona. Phoenix today, up to 113 degrees. So once again, were kind of on the outer fringes of that and were not getting an onshore flow. A northerly wind as we go throughout the day. Not much relief from the ocean breeze because the winds only come in at 5, maybe 10 miles an hour. We stay well above average over the next several days. In the south bay, average high is 81 degrees. We should be at least 10, 12, 13 degrees above that as we go through the next couple of days. More of the same in San Francisco. The average is 67 degrees. Mid70s for the middle of the week. And on thursday, up to 80 degrees. Looking ahead to the weekend, as you try to make some plans, i think a pool, beach, something to try to cool off, thats what you should be planning to do this weekend with some highs in the low 90s for the trivalley, the south bay, even the north bay up to 90 degrees on sunday.
