Were watching all those right now around the Golden Gate Bridge, wet roadways and the cameras bouncing because of wind speeds picking up. San jose southeast of 14, gusts close to 30 at half moon bay. 2 00 a. M. , wind advisory, San Francisco to the coles to the hilltops between 3 00 a. M. And 7 00 a. M. Thats when youll find the strongest winds with gusts up to 50 Miles Per Hour. Wave heights on the coast, already up to 18 feet. We will see wave heights getting up to 25 to 30 feet late tomorrow night. As we head into saturday morning and yes the rain now starting to arrive. Youre seeing light rain in sap hoe. More steady rain around mt. Hamilton and the santa cruz mountains. The main event with the storms still a few hours hereof shore. Tonight increasingly strong wind gusts, heavier rain, and a chance as we see whack here, some thunderstorms offshore which could bring small hail into the morning commute. Well have an hour by hour look and when were expecting the heaviest rain to arrive at 11 16. He and the soon to be first lady, melania trump, greeted his most loyal supporters. Like president obamas inauguration many years ago, this was the inaugural concert right there at the Lincoln Memorial. Not the biggest names in music but there were notables like Lee Greenwood ask toby keith. Soon after, take a look, the skies lit up. A spectacular fireworks show. Washington, d. C. On this cool and clear night lit up beautifully for the incoming president. And then per tradition, off to the balls. Remember, this is the eve of the inauguration. There will be more balls tomorrow night. Body mr. Trump and Vice President elect mike pence and their wifts spending the late evening with their biggest donors and campaign organizers, many from the bay area. We knew that it wasnt just about us in california or us along the coast and the things that were dealing with. Its about the entire country. And the entire country was hurting because of the policies and we knew it. And we knew we had to do the right thing. Its an amazing experience. Everything has been pretty awesome. A powerful demonstration outside the geary theater in San Francisco. Hundreds of people lighting candles and illuminating cell phones to signify what organizers call shining a light on the dark days ahead. Theyre calling it the ghost light project. Organizers say the demonstration was also meant to represent supportive inclusion for everyone. This campaign has unleashed an amazing amount of hate speech, and it is becoming the new norm to denigrate women, to denigrate people of color, to dep great people with disabilities without shame. The event is called the ghost light project and it was a nationwide event. The San Francisco demonstration was one of many that took place across the country tonight. Across the bridge in the east bay, dozens are taking to the streets for another protest. And its a preview of what is expected to be a much bigger demonstration tomorrow and saturday as well. Well continue our coverage with cheryl hurd who explains how police are preparing for these mass demonstrations. We will not be silent reporter the message from dozens marching from Oakland City Hall to Police Head Quarters is the promise not to be silent as president elect Donald Trumps inauguration draws near. This will not stand, we will resist, we will rise against this administration. Reporter tonights call to action a preview for fridays general strike against trump. Oakland police are ready for the protest to turn violent. We have done a lot of training, weve trained in crowd management, weve trained in different tactics and strategies. Weve also trained in deescalation. Reporter days off for police have been canceled. I want to strongly encourage all the demonstrators to keep in mind that trumay be a source of hate but local oakland businesses are not the enemy. Reporter businesses in down loun oakland are boarding up, preparing for protesters to take frustration out on them. Its happened many times before. What do we want . Peace reporter peace is the message tonight with a major concern for the new administration. With winds, did 3,000 people joining hands across the bridge tomorrow, showing unity and solidarity for inclusiveness in the united states. Again, not a protest, they say. This has been quite an event here taking place tonight. People have already come from golden gate transit district, setting up portapottys as they expect thousands of people starting at 8 00 a. M. In the heart of the storm. As i said, it could get very windy out here. Highprofile vehicles being in danger crossing the bridge. Expect delays if youre traveling across Golden Gate Bridge tomorrow. This kicks off at 10 00 a. M. As i said, well already have people gathering a the 8 00 a. M. As for our bay area politicians, there are many members of congress who are boycotting tomorrows inauguration, but there are plenty who will be attending, including leader nancy pelosi and our new senator Kamala Harris. She said shell be here tomorrow bright and early but with a healthy dose of skepticism. I feel very strongly this is going to be one of those moments in time where were going each be challenged to stand up and speak up when we see something happening that is wrong and unfair. New at 11, five catholic Elementary Schools will be closing in the east bay in june. Located in union city, el cerrito and oakland. More than 600 students and 90 faculty are being impacted. The diocese says the schools were 50 capacity and didnt expect new students so the schools are closing. Their enrollment makes it very difficult to have a sustainable level of commitment. Either by the parents or by other benefactors. The diocese says the employees and students will be given priority to transfer to other Catholic Schools next year. It could be a long night. Our radar shows the next storm bringing more rain to the bay area right now. People hit hard by last weeks wild weather arent taking any chances. You cant blame them. Rick, those escaped floods last week arent feeling they may be as lucky this time, theyre taking precautions. Theyre taking a lot of precautions. Theyre hoping these sandbags here will do the trick. Hopefully block a lot of water that may be potentially moving towards their home. They also feel if that water rises too high, not even these will help them at all. Its never been flooded before. Reporter last week his home became waterfront property. As this oncedry field in front of his house was pounded with rain, in an hour, turned into a lake. The intersection down there was closed. This whole road was closed, completely under water. Reporter now hes building a sandbag wall in front of his house in case the latest round of rain is a repeat of the last. Nicks street isnt the only worry for people in morgan hill. Theres a long list of hot spots where homeowners are advised this protect their property. After the last storm lesson, some arent waiting for the last minute. I kept all my sandbags and im ready. Hopefully the water doesnt come to the door or behind the house. Reporter and this sandbag location here on east court and morgan hill is one of about ten places you can get free sandbags. You can have a bag which is already here, also theres a big pile of dirt and bags, you can do it yourself. Lets turn attention to rob mayeda. And this area is going to be hit with a good concentration of water. Yeah, i think that area, the north bay hills too, over the next two storms, will bring in the rain totals we expect from storm two and three, add them together, youll see the areas in red and orange, location wet think well see more than 3 to 4 inches of rain. First Sonoma County which had the flash flood warnings last night around the creeks and streams will likely have that at times, maybe briefly tomorrow morning. A greater likelihood as we get into sunday. Santa cruz mountains, morgan hill, this flows into the watershed areas. We could see a lot of runoff by the time we get to sunday with rain totals in the coastal mountains. From this the second and third storms, getting up to 3 to 5 inches of rain. This is good news in the sierra, well see another 3 to 5 feet of snow by the end of the weekend. Look at those totals. Our toyota tahoe ski report continues to look epic. The base there at squaw alpine at 146 inches. Pack patience and head to the sierra, the best skiing in years right now happening there in the high country. So january or rainuary is one of the buttest months, shouldnt an surprise, but how much wetter than average its been so far is amazing. Almost 10 inches more than we typically get through this time of the month for santa rosa. Most locations 1 to 3 inches above the average. Were adding to it outside right now. Around San Francisco, the camera and san jose beginning to bounce around. As the cold front approaches these wind speeds were seeing, 20mileperhour gusts to 30mileperhour gusts on the coast could accelerate close to 50 Miles Per Hour by around 4 00 a. M. Those rain rates will be good enough to cause roadway flooding. Look at the time, 5 00 a. M. Well see that as the morning commute gets under way. We could have thunderstorms come rolling through once the cold front passes by. Friday afternoon and probably into saturday morning, still seeing scattered showers. This is between storm two and storm three. Thats probably the driest patch. 5 00 p. M. On saturday. From saturday, 11 00 to 4 00 a. M. Sunday, storm three comes rolling in. For your weekend plans, hour by hour, scattered showers on saturday, probably the trier of the two weekend days. The first half of sunday looks very gusty and rainy through noon. Rain continuing into the evening. We will finally catch a break from this pattern once we pass sunday. A few scattered showers we think for monday. Look what happens here tuesday. High pressure tries to make a comeback and once it arrives, we think well get a prolonged period of drier weather after a stormy stretch of weather that will take us through the end of the weekend. So winds picking up tonight, thunder at times too. So either of those two between 3 00 a. M. And 7 00 a. M. Could be waking up folks for the morning. Saturday showers. Snow levels down to 3,500 feet. We could see snow on our bay area peaks. The third system rolls in. Highest risk for creek flooding probably on sunday. Monday to tuesday, less showers.
