We have three events going on today. We have womans mogales and the slope style snowboard competition. Shaun white announced he has dropped out. He made that announcement wednesday afternoon after jamming his wrist during practice on tuesday. He called the course a bit intimidating after seeing several athletes crash. Hes decided to drop out and avoid risk of injury and focus on the halfpipe, which hes going for his Third Straight gold. The frontrunner wasnt shaun white any way, its the 26yearold from reno. 21yearold ryan stasle is also competing. On the womans side, we have jamie anderson, the 23yearold is a seventime tour gold medalist. And carly shore of trucky. He said recent attacks, including the Boston Marathon bombings, have prompted intense security. The threat of terrorism suspect limited to russia. The u. S. Is telling all Airlines Flying into russia to be on alert. Terrorists may try to smuggle explosives in tubes of toothpaste. This information is based on new intelligence. A hit and run driver sent a woman in the hospital with serious injuries. Police say the driver struck the woman while she was walking in a cross walk on tahoe avenue around 6 30 this evening. The car involved may have frontend damage. New tonight at 11 00, an east bay pastor is accused of having a relationship with a teenage girl. That victim, a runaway found living at his san ramone home. Terry mcsweeney is live at the pastors church. Terry, could there be more girls, as well . Reporter thats the exact question the police are asking tonight. I had a chance to talk to some of the churchgoers here at the krorean presbyterian church. They didnt know why he resigned last weekend and when i told them why, they were stupid. The 33yearold pastor of san ramone is a free man after his arrest last week for felony sexual assault, animal cruelty and child concealment. He was pastoring at this church in san ramone. Last sunday, they were told he resigned. He quit . Yes. Reporter he resigned last week . Yes. Thats all we know. Reporter police say pastor john met two teenage girls at the Salvation Army in San Francisco. Police say he brought them to live with him in his home and developed a sexual relationship with the victim. He was a nice man. The whole congregation respected him. So i have no idea. Reporter in a strange twist to the story, pastor john has been charged with animal cruelty, so severe it led to a small dog having to be euthanized. And hes charged with child concealment at the time of his arrest. He was held on 180,000 bail. But a Spokesman Says hes no longer in custody. Police have questions about whether there are more victims. They will be answering questions tomorrow, especially the curious case of the dog that had to be euthanized after the severe animal cruelty. Live in san ramone, terry mcsweeney, nbc bay area news. Police arrested this man yesterday at mountain views quest park. He went there to meet a 17yearold boy but instead encountered an undercover detective. Until this past september, he worked as a teacher in diamond heights. He also worked at lowell high school. Now to a story youll only see on here. A mother was found dead at the airport back in 1989. Now, 25 years later, the d. A. s office is hoping a piece of evidence never before made public will unlock this cold case. Stephanie troung has the story. Would do anything for her children or anybody in her life. Reporter march 8, 1989. Mother of two cathy zimmer goes missing. The last time she was seen was on campus. Reporter she had parked in the garage at San Jose State University where she was taking business classes. On that wednesday afternoon, she left school early to make a 2 45 eye doctor apartment. She never showed up. Reporter it took 48 hours before police found cathy at the san jose airport. Her body in the back of her 1986 navy blue chrysler new yorker. She was strangled to death and covered her body was a large quilt, a very distinctive looking quilt, most likely hand made. Reporter its this piece of evidence investigators hope will trigger someones memory and awaken an investigation thats stayed dormant for almost 25 years. How, when, where, who, all these thousands of questions that nobody could give us the answers to. Reporter and 25 years later, still unanswered. 25 years, every day i think about it, yep. Reporter especially now. Her daughter, Debbie Lawrence has just passed the age her mom was when she died. The loss, not having her every day to ask questions, things that im going through. Reporter police didnt know this club existed either until last week when officers came to break up a fight. They walked inside with beer and i will liquor without permits. The reputation goes down, so i dont know what they are going to do about it. But its not good. Reporter this floor space just two doors down gives you an idea of the size of the space inside. Police say there were eight locked vip rooms, 30 cocktail waitresses. Officers arrested the manager. He says in the three months that the business was open, no one was ever there during the day. Hes just glad to see it gone. It would have ruined my business, because illegal activities going on here, definitely. That was George Kiriyama reporting. The super bowl is coming to the bay area in just two years and were learning lessons from new york and new jersey, especially when it comes to traffic. The Valley Transportation Authority is already working on a traffic plan for 2016 when the super bowl is played at levi stadium. Crews are constructing a pocket track on tazman drive in front of the stadium. It will allow us to store threecar trains during the games, so once the games let out, well have the trains ready to take people to their destinations. Theyre also working on a mobile ticketing app so fans can purchase tickets on their smart phones. Lets get back to our coverage of the winter games. Theres a controversy over yogurt. Russia is preventing a shipment from entering the country. Its a team usa sponsor and it was supposed to go to the li olympi olympians. But the russian government is saying the americans dont have the proper paperwork. As for paulina edmonds, shes ready to go. The 15yearold tweeted out this picture today from the olympic processing day when all the olympians get their garb for the opening and closing ceremony. The sochi games are the most expensive games in history. Russia spent more than 50 billion, which is more than the other Olympic Games combined. Jammare janell wang is back. Reporter im here at the coastal cluster and this is the olympic cauldron. It is the center piece of the coastal cluster, surrounding it five main venues used for competition. And theres some interesti inin factoids about each one. This is the ice dome for mens ice hockey. Capacity, 12,000. Its the larger of two hockey venues at the coastal cluster. The ice dome is designed to resemble a frozen drop of water. The glass panels become transparent and colorful at night, allowing outsiders to see inside. This is the womens ice hockey. Capacity, 7,000. Some of the earlier mens hockey events will also take place here. The name means hockey puck in russian, which inspired the venues design. This is the Adler Arena Skating Center for speed skating. This venue can seat 8,000 people. The building is 25 meters high and 274 meters long. Inside, there are two competition tracks and one training track. This is the iceberg skating palace for short track speed skating. Seating capacity, 12,000. Because two sports are sharing this venue, the ice will have to be transformed from figure skating to short track, which takes about two hours. The roof has a wavelike shape designed to resemble a floating iceberg. After the games, it will be converted for cycling. This is the Ice Cube Curling Center for curling. The Seating Capacity here, 3,000. The center is simplistic in its design, meant to symbolize democracy and its a movable venue. It could be transported to another russian city. Those are the five competition venues at the coastal cluster. But this is a bonus one. And it may be the most important of it all. This is the olympic stadium, capacity, 40,000. This is where the opening and closinger is mo er iceremonies place. Sochi will be the host of the fifa 2018 world cup. The olympic flame has arrived in sochi after making a fourmonth long, 40,000mile journey. No word on who will be lighting the cauldron friday night, but we hear it is a russian gymnast. Were tracking rain across the bay area. Chief meteorologist jeff ranieri joins us with the details. Its widespread coverage from the north bay to the south bay. With our Drought Conditions in place, roadways still remain dangerously slick at this hour. One of the most dangerous corridors over the next couple of hours will be highway 101 and interstate 280 and widespread rainfall back here across the east bay, including livermore and on the 680 corridor. I want to take you outside to that live skycam a network. You can see rain tonight. In the east bay, thats where the toll plaza right now is very slick. Traffic not too heavy. That morning commute is under way, and this will likely get jammed up. Of course, our full morning team will cover this for you, as we head throughout tomorrow morning. Lets take you into the storms, we have a second one well out in the pacific. The key component to both of these storm systems, getting amped up more than they normally would is this subtropical moisture tap. As we head through the second storm system by this sunday, we eastern not going to see the patterns shift too much, thats why well have this Atmospheric River moving in across california. Lets take you to the rain timeline here. Throughout tonight, well see the rain moving in. I think by 5 00, 6 00, 7 00 in the morning, we could have some heavier pockets here from San Francisco down to about palo alto, also that wind increasing and well see that rain hold on to about 9 00 in the morning and to the afternoon hours well start to clear out and get some breaks of sunshine. No doubt tomorrow mornings commute will be the worst. Heres what you can expect. Another way to break this down. The first round of rainfall will have totals that will range up to an inch. Winds that could top 45 miles per hour. And from friday night into sunday, forecast models continue to line up each time over the past 24 hours. Great for the confidence in us getting this muchneeded wet weather. As we look at the microclimate forecast for thursday, everyone will have showers. And i dont need to go over the numbers too long. Everyone expecting mid 50s. When you have a storm system like this, it will level off the temperatures. 56 there in napa. 56 in walnut creek and pleasanton with 55. Time now for the toyota tahoe snow report. There is snow to report over the next 24 hours. Snow that will continue, heavy another times by friday night and even into saturday. Temperatures in the 30s on saturday. And overnight lows dropping down into the 20s. A lot more trails likely going to be opening with this first round of snow as we head into friday night, 12 inches. Then by saturday and sunday, we could have upwards of two feet up above the sierra. If youre traveling that way, watch out for treacherous roads. Lit be fun once you get up there.
