Pavilion. 6,000 of them Police Officers from all over the country. There will be a huge procession to the community tomorrow and that may impact their commute. The streets of downtown san jose are quiet tonight. But, tomorrow, a number of streets near hp pavilion will be closed allowing thousands of people to pay their last respect to two fallen officers from santa cruz. Earlier today, crews spent the afternoon making sure everything was in place at the hp pavilion. More than 2 dozen officers did a walk through making sure the space is perfect for tomorrows service. Today, where we can all come together and celebrate what they gave to our communities and honor their memory. A salute will start in the morning with a 33 mile procession starting from the board walk in santa cruz. That ro session of plifs from all over will bring highway 17 to a slow crawl as it makes its way down to highway 85 and 87. Highway overcrossings will be packed with people wanting to pay tribute to the officers. Were just so touched that these individuals want to come forward and take part in this. They want to be part of something that honors these officers legacies. Today, hundreds pay their respects at the santa cruz memorial. Inside, a final salute to two officers, sidebyside, awaiting their final farewell. I had a hollow feeling in my heart that i needed to do something. So i went and got some flowers. Com. 24yearold Dianna Hanson was the first deadly attack involving a big cat in california since that deadly mauling at the San Francisco zoo back in 2007. Todays attack was at an Animal Sanctuary in dunlap, about 45 miles east of fresno. It happened here at a place called cat haven. A private, wildlife sanctuary. The founder says at about noon today, the parks intern went inside the lion enclosure. She was confronted by a fouryearold lion named co cous cous. The intern entered the lions enkwlez sure where she was attacked and fatally injured. When my deputies arrived on scene, the victim was still in the enclosure. Deputies say the lion refused to let them near the victim. So they had to kill it. When they fieulltimely got to hanson, she was dead. Fish and wildlife officials are trying to determine why she was inside the cage in the first place. We will have our Forensics Lab look at the animal. The facility has the proper state license to care for exotic animals and that this is the first attack in the parks 20year history. But he also says he has a good idea of what went wrong. Theyre lions. Thats all the i can say. Animals, theyre just wild animals. Now, paul hanson is talking about his tragic loss tonight. He says that this was her dream job. Its so dangerous. She says dad, id know, i can do it. She liked them so much. She wasnt the slightest bit afraid to be in the cages with those cats. She had no problem getting in the cages with them. They showed her. She knew what to do and whatnot to do. Shes very well trained out there. Mr. Hanson also tells us that his daughters internship was scheduled to go until july. Look at those claws. When she heard of the tsas new policy, she tells me she was horrified.
