Good morning. Im frances rivera. We start with tragedy in northern california. Dramatic cell phone video shows the fiery moments of a horrific and deadly crash. A fedex truck slammed in a bus full of High School Students on thursday. We know at least ten people are dead including two truck drivers, three chaperones and five students. Francis coe filed this late report. Reporter police tape around the charred remains following a fiery commission between a tour bus, fedex truck and a Passenger Car in california. The california Highway Patrol says the truck crossed the freeway, slamming into the bus and car. Chp reports at least nine were killed. More than 30 others were injured in the crash. Several were airlifted to local hospitals. Glen county sheriffs dispatch told the Associated Press there were 46 passengers on the bus. High School Seniors on a trip to visit the campus of Humboldt State university in northern california. The school released a statement on their website that reads in part, Humboldt State university is deeply saddened by a tragic accident that occurred earlier this evening involving a charter bus filled with perspective students. Our hearts go out to those who have been affected. And we are here to support them and their families in any way ssible. The accident is under investigation. Frances coe, nbc news. Fedex released a statement overnight saying in part, quote, our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved in the tragic accident on i5 in california. We are cooperating fully with authorities as they investigate. This morning, a window into the horrifying moments when a vicious attack unfolded at a pennsylvania high school. Were going ing getting a c reporting a person with a knife. Weve got multiple victims here. The suspect is in custody but we need help. We have victims all over the ground. That suspect alex hribal remains behind bars. He remains behind bars. Hes charged as an adult for allegedly stabbing 16 people and a Security Guard at franklin regional high school. His Attorney Says hes in a daze, like a deer in headlights. Hribals parents also visited him thursday. My clients parents are as devastated as the victim in this case and they send their best wishes to everybody and they didnt see this coming at all. Investigators are trying to figure out what sparked the rampage, including the possibility of an angry phone call between the suspect and another student the night before the attack. At least eight boys remained hospitalized. The suspect wanted in wednesdays deadly hit and run crash at a Central Florida day care is now in custody. Police say 28yearold Robert Corchado turned himself in thursday afternoon follow a 24hour manhunt. Hes being held on 100,000 bond. Corchado has been arrested eight times since 2000. He surrendered shortly after a 5,000 reward was offered. I think the pressure from both sides of the community, and from you all paid off. I think he listened and did the right thing. Police say corchado hit another vehicle with his suv, which sent it crashing into the daycare center. The crash killed 4yearold nicole quintus and injured 14 others. Today, 15 planes and 13 ships are scouring a 500 square mile area off the indian ocean. Theyre searching for sounds that could be linked to missing Malaysian Airlines flight 370. The Prime Minister says searchers are confident that the sounds are coming from the planes black boxes. Nbcs tom costello has more. Reporter on board the australian ship ocean shield what may be proof that flight 370 lies somewhere below. A constant pinging that search coordinators say is likely coming from the planes black boxes. The newest pings were picked up from a listening device from a floating buoy 1,000 feet below the oceans surface. The data was transmitted to an air force plane overhead. Now the race to capture as many pings as possible before the batteries die. They found a ping here. They found a ping there. They fund a ping there. Theyre just trying to get basically all those little dots to line up to kind of say, yeah, this is the area we want to search because once they start searching, it is still going to take them weeks to do that survey. Reporter search teams must use the data from the known ping locations to hone in on the wreckage below, but with just a few sets of pings, the underwater search zone is 500 square miles. Roughly the size of phoenix. It would take weeks for an unmanned submarine using sonar to scan that area of the ocean floor. The more pings now, the smaller the search zone. And making news this morning, at least ten people were killed, less than 12 hours ago, when a fedex tractor trailer crossed a median and collided with a bus carrying High School Students. The collision happened in orland, california. It caused a massive fire engulfing both vehicles. The bus was carrying up to 50 students, four chaperones and the driver. A 7. 3 magnitude quake hit off the South Pacific nation of papua new guinea. The u. S. Geological survey says the quake hit about 31 miles beneath the surface.
