And the fbi director under fire for making this public so close to an election. Dozens of Foreign Affairs veteraning are criticizing him. All of this could shake up a close race for the white house. The new poll shows the candidates one point apart. Team coverage this morning starting with Pierre Thomas in reporter good morning, george. The fbi director is in the midst of a political firestorm under searing attack, now under intense pressure to say whether the batch of emails are connected to Hillary Clinton, and whether they are significant or not. This morning, armed with a court order, fbi agents are set to begin an intensive effort to go through thousands of emails which sources say are connected to huma abedin, one of Hillary Clintons closest confidants. These emails were discovered while the fbi was investigating abedins estranged husband, in connection with a sexting scandal, allegedly involving in minor. The fbi wants to know if the emails contain classified information and if theyre connected to secretary clintons private server. Fbi director comeys disclosure to congress has released a barrage of attacks unleashed by officials blindsided by the announcements. Democrats took aim. In july, the director said no reasonable prosecutor would move forward. Has said to alter that conclusion. Reporter Senate Minority leader harry reid issued a blistering attack. Questioning comeys integrity. Writing he regretted working to get comey confirmed. With deepest regret, i now see that i was wrong. Last night, abc news obtained a letter penned by former attorney general eric holder and dozens of other former prosecutors and highranking officials, including republicans, criticizing comey. Many of us have worked with director comey. But his unprecedented decision to publicly comment on evidence on what may be inqui inquiry 11 days before the president ial election leaves us astonished and perplexed. People have talked about comey. I have talked to fbi agents, former fbi agents, prosecutors, former prosecutors who have scratched their heads about how the investigation was conducted reached 3 1 2 months ago to not indict. Reporter in the clinton case, comey has worked with unprecedented measures. He held a press conference on why he was not pressing charges, although he was pressing her actions. There is evidence that they were extremely careless in their handling of very sensitive highly classified information. Reporter Justice Department officials had advised against alerting congress, citing the department tradition of not investigations, and not doing anything that would be seen as influencing an election in its final days. One of the other things were learning is they knew about these emails several weeks before they briefed the fbi director. Then james comey then tried to backtrack a little bit, makes an internal comment in a letter to all of the fbi, trying to provide a little more context. Bottom line, this is why federal and local authorities often say, we cant comment on an ongoing investigation. Why . Because it leads people to start and because of that vacuum, hes under pressure to put out more information closer to an election as they go through the emails. I dont expect hell do that. I dont expect well hear anything else from james comey. But lets also point out, it is very unlikely this is going to lead to any kind of criminal indictment. They are looking at these new emails. They are not revisiting the old investigation. Theyre not looking back and saying, did we get it right the first time . This is just a question of, is there something new surpass that very high Legal Standard which is intentional mishandling of classified information. Obstruction of justice. Its easy to run computer programs to determine if these were duplicates of the they already had. If they can determine that quickly, wouldnt he be obligated to put that out . Yes. But the long arm of authorities caught up with 38yearold Michael Vance late sunday night the 38yearold refused to give up and died in a shootout with police about 130 miles northwest of oklahoma city. Police had been searching for him since october 23rd. He was accused first of shooting two Police Officers, and then carkak jacking a couple as he fled. He shot another woman in the try and drove eight miles to a home where police say he brutally killed two family members. What frustrated police more was when he went to social media to brag about the story. Let me tell you, it hurts. Reporter he livestreamed his getaway. Wow, that really hurt, see, im bleeding where the police shot me. Reporter authorities caught up with vance sunday morning when Police Spotted him leaving the campsite. A county sheriff pulled him over at 9 30 p. M. They traded bullets. Vance escaped that shootout but was cornered by the oklahoma Highway Patrol 45 minutes later, deadly end. A Police Officer was wounded in the shootout, and were told he was shot in the shoulder in the shootout. Those injuries are not lifethreatening. Hes been treated for that injury this morning. Robin . We would like to declare an emergency. Police came on board, took the two men off, evacuated the plane. The plane was searched. Nothing was found. The flight finally landed in dallas overnight. Right now, Denver Police are looking for two vehicles related to two separate hitandruns yesterday. One of those was fatal. It happened at 13th and broadway. Police say a person possibly hit by a white pickup truck in that case. Around the same time another person was hit by a car at 19th and larimer. Police are looking for a white suv in that incident. If you know anything about either case, call Denver Police. Its going to be a beautiful end of the month. Temperatures above normal. Were looking at a few showers across the northwest corner of our state and our northern mountain could pick up rain and scattered showers and snow on the tops of the p denver.
