Reporter officials tell abc news there is evidence the three terrorists, seen in this video, just before they were killed, had been waiting for several months to carry out their attack. And that the trigger may have been this message posted by isis calling on followers to use vehicles, guns and knives, to attack. Many of those arrested were connected to the dead terrorist, seen in this photo, wearing a fake bomb vest. A vest intended to cause panic, and guarantee a Police Response that would lead to martyrdom. It would appear the attackers wanted to be martyrs. The president tweeted is initial response pointing to the attack as justification for the travel ban, stalled in court. So in the wake of saturdays attack and of course we had the Manchester Bombing just last month, police are sharing their latest advice about what to do in the event of an attack. Earlier we spoke with abc contributor, counterterrorism official, steve gomez about that. One phrase coming out a lot is run, hide, tell. Some in london are saying that actually saved lives in the wake of this recent attack. But we here heard it as run, hide, fight. Why the difference between how they do this in the uk and u. S. . There is a piece of clarification that has to be discussed. You definitely want to run and get out of the way if you are near a terrorist attack or this situation. If you can run away, great. Then you want to tell somebody. If you want hide, if you cant run, you can hide, then, thats great too. And then if you have ability to call somebody again that is great. But if you cant run. You cant hide. You need to be prepared to fight. And not be prepared to call somebody. You have to be looking for a chair, a trash can, something that they were talking about in this situation. And be prepared to now take out the, the terrorist, with whatever means necessary. But, you know you can worry about calling somebody later. You got to fight first if you cant run and hide. Steve gomez. There are many people who did fight back. Sure, they used everything from chairs to pint glasses to fight back. Many, many ways. This one scene has gone viral since the attack. This man he obeyed the run part of the instructions only, watch carefully what he its holding in his hands. He still has his pint full of beer. And many online observers noticed he wasnt spilling a drop. Some are calling him the hero and perfect symbol of london. One commented given the price of pints in london, he was absolutely right trying to preserve as much of his beer as possible. Sure, i think it is seven pounds right now. 9 here. Thats a lot. Its such a great example of the london people and their philosophy when it comes to all this stuff. Back in the day their phrase was keep calm and carry on. They very much embrace that. We have seen that in the aftermath of the attack. In this case saw it during the attack. Which is why the New York Times headline, about london really, really got their nickers, all upset. Reporter bill cosby charged with felony aggravated indecent assault stemming from a 13yearold claim from a former Temple University employee. Constant alleges the comedian drugged and sexually assaulted her at his home in pennsylvania in 2004. Cosby denied wrongdoing and says their encounter was consensual. While the 79yearold accused by more than 50 women of drugging and or sexual misconduct, this is the only case where he faces criminal charges. Back in 2005, the District Attorney at the time decided not to criminally prosecute cosby citing insufficient credible and admissible evidence. The d. A. Is going to have to prove that this alleged victim is credible. And we know she didnt immediately report the incident to the police. The prosecution petitioned to have as many as a dozen accusers testify on constants behalf, but the judge is only allowing one other accuser to take the stand. That woman, known only as casey, once worked for cosbys agent in l. A. And says cosby drugged and sexually assaulted her in 1996. One of the things that the prosecution was relying heavily on is the ability to bring forth many more of the women who made similar allegations against bill cosby. Reporter the jury is made up of seven men and five women, eight of the jurors are under the age of 40, which is somewhat significant because the cosby show stopped taping in 1992. That transport Police Officer confronting all three attackers armed only with his baton, seizing the initiative, saving lives. He is in the hospital seriously injured but recovering. Terry moran, abc news. British Police Arrested a dozen people so far. Vast majority arrests made at a single address at a single working class neighborhood in east london. They range in age from 19 to 60 and seven are women. Investigators this morning believe theyve made significant progress in identifying the three suspects killed saturday night. Officials also say there is evidence the three terrorists had been waiting for several months for a signal to carry out their attack. President trump is denouncing that attack, pledging support to the uk but also taking aim at londons mayor. The president s initial reaction to the attack came in several tweets. He promoted his stalled travel ban and said the leaders need to focus on security. And stop being politically correct. He took a swipe at gun control advocates pointing the attackers used a knife and truck. Last night he offered condolences saying that terror has gone on too long. We knew our resolve, stronger than ever before, to protect the United States and its allies from a vile enemy that has waged war on innocent life. This bloodshed will end. President also criticized londons mayor sadiq khan after khan told residents theres no reason to be alarmed. The mayor has more important things to do to respond to Donald Trumps illinformed tweet. They said not to be alarmed when they saw more police on the street. They accused the president of deliberately taking that out of context. That would be an unusual sight in england because majority of the police arent armed. Yeah british Prime Minister theresa may in the meantime is pushing for an internet crackdown to in her words deprive the extremists of their safe spaces online. Lets bring in abc contributor steve gomez here. Former counterterrorism official. Steve, what would an International Cyber crackdown even look like . Im sure what shes talking about is the types of messaging and social media platforms, smart phone applications that these terrorists are using to communicate. Most of these platforms and messaging services are encrypted. The encryption is the biggest problem that Law Enforcement is facing right now. The former fbi director james comey talked about this before. It actually has an Initiative Name for it going dark. Basically describing how they are not able to intercept the communications on these types of devices and platforms. That is a huge problem for Law Enforcement in trying to thwart the activities of terrorists. Were not talking the likes of facebook or whatsapp or how these people might be communicating, just to be sure . Exactly. Exactly. Whatsapp, viper. There are various others. The biggest problem is these are being created outside of the u. S. And with the encryption and when you try to get a court order to obtain the messages and get past the encryption, youre getting a lot of pushback from these companies. I see. I see. People like to have their own privacy but when it falls in the wrong hands then we want more information. Yes. This all took eight minutes from the first call to the conclusion, as far as counterterrorism operation goes. Impressive response . Very impressive, especially in light of the fact that many of these officers arent even armed. I would have to assume that they had ready access to the weaponry that were used when they deployed and approached the suspects and then neutralized them with shots fired. One phrase thats coming out a lot in all of this is run, hide, tell. Some in london are saying that that actually saved lives in the wake of this recent attack, but we here heard it as run, hide, fight. Why the difference between how they do this in the uk and the u. S. . I think theres just a piece of clarification that has to be discussed. You definitely want to run and get out of the way if youre near a terrorist attack or this kind of situation. If you can run away, great. Then you want to tell somebody. If you can hide, if you cant run and you can hide, then thats great, too. And then if you have the ability to call somebody, again, that is great. But if you cant run and you cant hide, you need to be prepared to fight and not be prepared to call somebody. You have to be looking for a chair, a trash can, something they were talking about in this situation and be prepared now to take out the terrorist with whatever means necessary. You know, you could worry about calling somebody later, but you have to fight first if you cant run and hide. Yeah. In this case, many patrons did and used their pint glass to fight back. So they got the message one way or the other. Exactly. Abc contributor steve gomez. Steve, thanks so much for joining us. Always great to get your perspective.
