The three suicide bombers involved in tuesdays attacks have been identified. Authorities confirm one of them was the bombmaker who was also part of the november attacks in paris. An urgent manhunt continues for the suspect this morning who got away. Abcs Alex Marquardt has more. Reporter police in masks and full body armor searching the streets of brussels, an allout manhunt to capture a terrorist before he strikes again. This is the man theyre looking for, in the dark hat and tan coat. His name not known. The two men with him, pushing heavy carts at the airport, suicide bombers. Their black gloves possibly concealing detonators. Now sources in brussels telling abc news, the man on the left is the master bombmaker, 24yearold najim laachraoui. The man in the middle, 29yearold ibrahim el bakraoui. And we now know, his 27yearold brother, khalid, carried out the deadly subway attack later that day. Both brothers had terror connections. In fact, last june enter poll, the world police organization, sent a worldwide alert saying bakraoui was wanted for terrorism. They said the other brother, ibrah ibrahim, was caught on the syrian border. The belgian authorities were warned he was a foreign fighter. The three suspected airport attackers headed out on their mission in a brussels suburb. This is where the attackers were picked up to go to the airport outside this Apartment Building loading their three bags full of explosives into the car. But they reportedly couldnt fit more bags in, because it was too small. Meaning the carnage could have been even worse. They drove the five miles to the airport. That infamous surveillance image captured at 7 55 a. M. Less than five minutes later, the first explosion. Then, another. The blasts, fewer than ten seconds apart, turning this bustling terminal into the burnedout shell you see here. These new images of the aftermath. A soldier carrying a victim on his back to safety. A mass of people desperate to escape. Somewhere among them, the man in the black hat. An hour later, just seven miles away at the metro station, another suicide bomber prepares to strike. The second brother, khalid el bakraoui, came here to the Maalbeek Metro station to carry out his suicide attack, in the shadow of the offices of the european union, making his way through rush hour commuters to detonate his explosives. He stepped into this subway car, now a mangled heap of twisted metal. Surviving passengers climbing out into the darkness. Hours later, police teams descended on the terrorists safehouse. Forensics investigators in white suits dusting for fingerprints, and carrying out evidence. And in a garbage can on the same street, a dramatic discovery the discarded computer of airport bomber ibrahim el bakraoui. And on it, a final, desperate message. The terrorist writing about, quote, being in a rush, no longer knowing what to do, being sought everywhere, no longer being safe, and worrying about spending the rest of his life in a jail cell. His hearing was supposed to happen yesterday but delayed because of heightened security concerns. He was arrested last friday after months on the run. A panel of judges at todays hearing could extend abdeslams detention for his alleged role in novembers attacks in paris. Getting extremely close attention from authorities in brussels is an apartment that served as a bomb factory for those terrorists. As abcs terry moran found, it seems they were working right under the noses of their apparently unsuspecting neighbor. Reporter that apartment in the brussels suburb a virtual bomb factory was scoured by investigators. This shaky video of the search shot by a shocked neighbor. And inside, a grim find. Investigators recovering about 33 pounds of tatp, the socalled mother of satan explosive used in the paris attacks last november. Almost 40 gallons of acetone, used to make tatp. Detonators. A suitcase filled with nails and screws. And ventilators. While we were on the scene you didnt know . No. Reporter a neighbor arrived. As the investigation and the manhunt continues, more and more links are being made between brussels and the attacks in paris. Those responsible are now known to be part of the same isis terror cell. For the very latest were joined right now from brussels by Abcs Aaron Katersky. Good morning. Reporter kendis, good morning. There was supposed to be a third even more powerful explosion at the Brussels Airport on tuesday. And this morning, the hunt is on for whoever placed that bomb. Wearing masks and body armor, police hunt for a terrorist, theyre looking for this man seen in a surveillance image moments before the two blasts at the Brussels Airport. Authorities said he left a bag containing the biggest bomb that did not detonate as planned. The two other airport attackers seen pushing luggage that contained their bombs have been identified. One of them has been linked to the paris attacks. The three were picked up in a taxi from an address where police later discovered signs of a bomb factory, explosives, chemicals, bags of nails. The shrapnel wounded 300 people at the airport and the metro station. At least 31 are dead. This is the second day of national mourning. The airport is closed to le passengers until at least saturday. The subways are running on a limited schedule. And today a new worry. The main suspect from the november bombings and shootings in paris is due in a belgian court. Salah abdeslam was captured here last week after his fingerprints were found in an apartment rented by one of the brussels suicide bombers. Abdeslams Court Appearance had been delayed over Security Fears here in belgium. There are still fears of the potential for followon attacks either here in this European Capital or in another one as we get ever closer to the easter holiday. Authorities that the deadly terror attack this week in brussels and last november in paris, were the work of one interconnected isis cell based in belgium, made up of at least terror recruits, mostly european. 13 of them now dead, 1 under arrest and 2 still being sought. Its got more moving parts. Its got people attacking in different ways. Its a more resilient kind of terror cell i think. Reporter the culmination of more than a year of careful planning by isis Central Command in syria that allowed the cell to avoid detection for so long. They do train their people in the fundamentals of being a spy, of being a terrorist cell. Fundamentals of secure communication. Reporter among those with documented ties to both paris and brussels is that suspected bombmaker, 24yearold najim laachraoui, whose remains were discovered in the Brussels Airport. Authorities say they have found his dna and fingerprints at bomb factories that produced explosives for both paris and brussels. Authorities now believe that cell in brussels is out of people, out of explosives. But the concern remains about other terror cells across europe still covert and still actively plotting. The Justice Department is expected to announce as soon as today a criminal indictment against seven iranianbacked hackers. Its believed the group is behind the computer intrusion of the small new york dam and dozens of u. S. Banks. The indictment is expected to directly link the iranian government to the attacks. The governor of kansas has declared a state of emergency because of a rapidly spreading grass fire along the border with oklahoma. The fire has burned more than 100 square miles and closed roads. About a dozen homes have been evacuated. Winds are strong. And the fire is still out of control. Ranchers and farmers are worried. Its the worst possible situation as far as wind. If they dont get this thing shut down pretty quick, its going to rank right up there. Smoke and ash from the wildfire is making the air unhealthy as far away as wichita, about 80 miles away. Authorities say parts of new mexico and northwest texas are also at risk for wildfires. And the strong winds in the Southern Plains are creating other problems for drivers. Highway crews are having to remove loads of tumble weeds. Theyre even rolling in from the mesa onto the streets of albuquerque. One resident says its the worst shes seen in a decade, in ten years.
