We are just learning overnight that the twister that rampage edd through fairdale, illinois, was an ef1, one below the strongest possible, an ef5. You can see how destructive it is with winds reaching 200 Miles Per Hour. Meantime, the deadly storm system is moving east. Other parts of the country bracing for thunderstorms, high wind and hail today. Yeah, well get the forecast from rob in just a moment but were going to start here with abcs alex perez on the ground in fairdale, illinois. Alex, good morning to you. Reporter hey, good morning, dan. Good morning, paula. The cleanup and Recovery Process here just beginning. Overnight it was heavy hail and rain creating big problems across parts of the south. In ashland, kentucky, high wind and torrential rain uprooted trees including this one striking josh howards church van. Oh, my god lord, please. Reporter howard records the terrifying moments as hail pours through the broken windows. Look at how the tree crushed the entire roof of the van as if it were a piece of tin foil. In georgia thousands without power as crews scramble to clear downed trees and fix snapped power lines. The Severe Weather pattern continuing its path of destruction after striking in illinois. This morning new images of the devastation caused by tornadoes that killed two and injured at least 20 people. In rochelle, the powerful winds of a tornado leaving these massive concentric marks across the field. In fairdale, not a single home was untouched and many leveled as winds up to 200 Miles Per Hour tore through this small town. Our chicago station wls took me up in their chopper for a birdseye view of the damage. From above, you can get a better idea of just how damaging this storm was. Entire blocks completely gone. Peoples lives, their belongings scattered all over the place. And now coming home to find that theyve lost everything. This google earth image shows the town before the ef4 tornado struck and after. The path of the tornado marked clearly by the trail of destruction. And utility crews have been working through the night here as homeowners begin the difficult process of assessing the damage. Paula. Alex, those images were just so powerful, thank you. And the severely destructive weather is on the move and rob tracking it for us. You were saying for illinois, unusually strong for this time of year. Yeah, this is Severe Weather season, paula, but its been 34 years since we saw an ef4 strike the state of illinois so unusually strong for the state of illinois this time of year. An ef4 really anywhere is a rarity and this one certainly a destructive one. All right were kind of resetting, recharging the atmosphere just a little bit here. Dew points are low meaning the moisture in the air but weve got some strong jet Stream Energy that will pour into the plains, high plains, the oklahoma panhandle, northern parts of texas into western kansas will be the threat today. Mostly strong winds, maybe some damaging hail. Very, very slight chance of seeing tornadoes but this is the area that were very concerned about. The front that calls on the rough weather the past several day, that is moving off onto the east coast but the tail end will cause heavy rain across the gulf coast and well talk more about that in just a little bit. That historic handshake between president obama and the president of cuba, raul castro, the brother of fidel castro. Today at a summit in panama, the president s of these two countries will meet facetoface for the First Time Since the height of the cold war and abcs jim avila is in panama city covering it all. Jim. Reporter good morning, dan. It was the handshake the world thought it might never see. A castro, raul, not fidel shaking hands with an american president. Nothing substantive was said last night, it was just a hearty handshake but today the two president s will sit down and talk about the new era of relations between cuba and the u. S. Not since Dwight Eisenhower was president and before the castros took over cuba have the two leaders of these two once enemies done that. Its happening at the summit of the americas here in panama where cuba is being allowed to participate for the First Time Since the meetings began in the early 90s. Theyre expected to tauklk about the reopening of embassies in both capitals, the lifting of the embargo and taking cuba off the terror list. The state department is recommending that cuba be taken off that list. The decision now in the president s hand and could be announced at any moment. All in all, an historic day for both countries. This morning, the frantic moments following the shooting of walter scott captured in this newly released dash cam video. Watch and listen as this Police Cruiser responds to the shooting scene. And look here as he approaches that figure on the left, feidin santana, the eyewitness capturing it all on his camera phone. This as newly released dispatched calls revealed by the time paramedics arrived it was too late. Doa. Dispatch, copy, doa. Reporter police overnietght interviewing this mystery man, the passenger in scotts car as officer slager made a traffic stop one week ago today. He was one of the last to speak with scott shortly before the 50yearold bolted from this car and gunned down by officer slager moments later. Now investigators telling abc news the mystery man who does not want his identity known was interviewed and then let go. This as officer slager sits in isolation at a county jail, his moments carefully watched to protect him from other inmates. Nobody likes to see their child sitting in prison. We begin in Southern California where the fbi is now investigating a Shocking Police beating of a suspect caught on camera. Officers apparently pummeling and kicking a man after a wild chase with a suspect on horseback. Abcs brandi hitt has the very latest. Reporter this morning the fbi is launching an investigation into this brutal beating captured by knbc los angeles. As many as ten San Bernardino county deputies now on paid administrative leave seen punching and kicking 30yearold Francis Pusok more than 50 times in two minutes. It appears to be excessive to me based on what i saw in the video. Reporter the wild pursuit began thursday with an Identity Theft search warrant unrelated to pusok who fled the scene leading deputies on a car chase and then allegedly stealing this horse. Suspect being tased. Suspect being tased. Reporter the terrain so rugged deputies had to be helicoptered in. Pusok seen putting his hands behind his back before the beating began. This is as bad if not worse than what they did to rodney king. Reporter the sheriff says several deputies recognized pusok from his criminal past, once convicted of attempted robbery, animal cruelty for shooting a puppy and resisting arrest. The father of three was hospitalized with minor injuries before being booked on several new charges including felony evading. Would we have the facts and details that we have today without the video, probably not. Reporter now the deputies involved were wearing audio recorders. That will be used in the investigation to determine whether theyll face any charges. Their names are not being released following Death Threats made against them and their families. Ron. Alexander blair is accused of failing to report a felony in connection to the alleged plan to place a bomb near the ft. Riley military base in kansas. Blair was accused of knowing about a plan purportedly crafted by 20yearold john booker who the feds say planned on joining the u. S. Army so he could kill american soldiers on behalf of isis. And millionaire real estate heir and murder suspect robert durst has been indicted by a federal grand jury in louisiana charged with illegal possession of a handgun. The indictment could make it more difficult to send durst to extradite him to california to face murder charges there for allegedly killing a longtime friend back in 2000. Durst was arrested on the eve of the final episode of the hbo documentary the jinx based on his life. Now to newly released video of a deadly brawl outside of a walmart in arizona. Watch as Police Officers and members of a large family engaged in a chaotic fistfight. At one point an officer is on the ground apparently in a struggle for his gun. He can be seen trying to crawl away after being shot. A second officer returned fire killing one man and wounding another. The officer was shot in the leg. The march 21st incident is under investigation. And finally, a 19inning baseball marathon in the bronx. New york yankees and Boston Red Sox last night. It stretched into this morning as they played a total of 6 hours, 49 minutes. I left after the 16th inning. I was wondering why you were so tired this morning. Thats why i was so tired. At one point while i was still there even though the stadium lights must have been exhausted they went out causing the field to go dim. Play was stopped for 16 minutes while some fans used their smartphone flashlights to try to help out there. Didnt help. The lights were eventually fixed. The snow globe of flying cash is something weve all probably dreamt of but in this very real scenario cashing out is a crime. Overnight a freeway freeforall on a texas interstate. An armored brinks truck accidentally dropping what police call a substantial amount of cash creating a standstill as commuters jump out of their cars for a quick cash grab. The first guy i saw had a big wad of cash with money sticking out, and then i saw people stopping on the highway running over. Take a look at this man carrying an armful of cash, this group in a frenzy to collect the dumped dough but according to authorities, taking the cash is highway robbery. Reporter overnight officials confirming Human Remains Found thursday in a vacant home belong to missing virginia teen anjelica aj hadsell. None of it feels real. It feels like a nightmare. Reporter investigators are not releasing a cause of death. But police tell abc news they are actively searching for suspects and cannot rule out foul play. Its a tough situation for everybody. Theres a lot of mixed emotions, anger, a lot of questions. Reporter the discovery brings an end to weeks of searches across over 100 miles for the College Freshman last seen on march 2nd while visiting her family for spring break. In a Statement Released overnight, hadsells mother thanking Police Despite tensions between the family and investigators. To us it seems like theyre doing nothing. Reporter this morning hadsells father wesley remains behind bars charged with interfering in the investigation when he broke into a different home last month. His mother says he was simply following leads of his own. As any father would, if you hear that your daughter may be in a house or being held or some of her belongings are at a location, any father is going to try to find out. Reporter Norfolk Police tell abc news his arrest is not believed to be linked to ajs death at this time. Her father is being held without bail and is due back in court later this month.
