The secret service is conducting mysterious flights in the middle of the night looking for ways to knock them out of the sky. Abcs Pierre Thomas is in washington with the latest on all that for us. As you know, drones have been showing up everywhere and a recent white house incursion by a drone made it clear they could be a potential threat so now the secret service is taking action. The secret service is launching a series of overnight training exercises to cope with the growing new threat of drones. The testing which would be conducted in the wee overnight hours involves using a number of methods to take drones out of the sky including technology that would turn them off. The concerns intensified a few weeks ago when this drone penetrated the white house perimeter and crashed on to the north lawn. Sources say drones are potential threats for carrying explosives but also to spy on white house activities. In a recent exclusive interview with the new secret service director, he made it clear to me that the recent drone events have gotten everyones attention including the president of the United States. And i personally briefed the president on the events of that day and he had very specific questions and was very concerned as he should be. Technology changes and were working with the private industry, as well, that those that are producing these drones and its a global issue. Terrifying new video was played in court on monday as more victims delivered emotional testimony as we learn how little emotions Dzhokhar Tsarnaev displayed right after he launched the attack. The defense is trying to paint Dzhokhar Tsarnaev as a misguided youth who was just following the footsteps of his older brother but prosecutors say the video youre about to see shows a coldblooded killer, someone who had no regard for the innocent men, women, even children in his path of terror because he was standing right next to them. The video is chilling. Alleged Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev caught on tape launching his attack. Watch this newly released video played in court on monday, tsarnaev in the white hat appears to pick a spot in the crowd, slips off his backpack, believed to be holding the Pressure Cooker bomb, lingers, uses his cell phone, then seconds later at 2 49 p. M. , the first bomb goes off, the crowd suddenly looks left. He starts to walk away. Seconds after that, his bomb goes off. A fireball erupting into the camera. Prosecutors also playing this new video from a nearby whole foods showing the then 19yearold casually strolling into the store less than 15 minutes after the bombings heading to the dairy section buying a half gallon of milk before walking out and driving away. This calm scene playing out while chaos was unfolding back at the marathon finish line. Jurors also seen these new images and hearing from witnesses like Jessica Kenski testifying from her wheelchair monday saying she was so in shock after the blast she was unaware of what was happening until someone screamed, maam, youre on fire. Jurors also hearing from one of the heros from that day, matthew patterson, a Critical Care paramedic who was off duty during the bombings but jumped into action saving the life of 6yearold jane richard who lost a leg and her older brother, martin, in the attack. I testified because i believe that jane, janes voice needs to be heard and the damage that was done to her physically, emotionally and for the rest of her life. Reporter tsarnaev in court for the testimonies slouching in his chair appearing uninterested. Hes pleaded not guilty to 30 counts against him including murder and the use of a weapon of mass destruction. And though he used his personal twitter account to quote rappers like jay z and eminem, prosecutors reveal he had another twitter account under an alias where he quoted anwar al awlaki, a radical muslim cleric, also a member of al qaeda. George. Thanks very much. We turn to another major train accident, the third in a month. This one in North Carolina where an amtrak train collided with a tractor trailer injuring dozens. The amtrak cars and engine are gone. The crossing is reopened. But serious questions remain this morning. Another driver saw it coming. Oh, my god. Oh, my god an amtrak train slamming into a tractortrailer and its tarpcovered cargo. Engine on the side tore to pieces back car and the first coach on the ground. Reporter on board 230 people, the 911 calls pour in. Amtrak is derailed. Oh, my god. Reporter the engine and two of the seven cars jumped the tracks. It was horrific. I mean the ground shook, our vehicle shook. The train just is like an abrupt stop all of a sudden. That was it. Just zhoom. All you hear was steel and metal. Reporter one out of every four people on board taken by ambulance or bus to the hospital with nonlifethreatening injuries. The truck was trying to turn right after the crossing but was too long. Escorted by a state trooper, the driver backed up to try and make that turn again when the signal started. The state police say there was no time to warn the rail line or amtrak. This is the third serious Passenger Rail accident in just over a month. Two weeks ago a truck on the tracks in california and last month a metro north train stuck an suv in new york. Both the driver and six passengers were killed. But here in North Carolina, a happy reunion after a very scary day. Now, there is some discrepancy how long that truck was stuck on the tracks. Witnesses say 15 to 20 minutes, the state patrol says it was just a matter of minutes of there is a sign that says if there is an emergency call. George, no call was made. New York City Police have arrested a man they say pointed a laser at aircraft taking off and landing at laguardia airport. This is the laser officers recovered. Three pilots suffered eye injuries including two officers flying a police helicopter. Laser attacks are growing problems with nearly 4,000 reported last year alone. The fbi has set up a special task force to investigate them. Also breaking overnight two olympic medalists among the victims of a deadly crash during the filming of a reality show on these two helicopters that apparently collided in argentina while taping a popular european tv show. Two pilots and eight passengers were killed including camille muffat, a french swimmer who won gold in 2012 and french boxer alexis vastene. The Olympic Committee saying tremendous champions and friends have gone. Well, the u. S. Ambassador to south korea was released from the hospital this morning after a terrifying knife attack. Ambassador mark lippert was greeted by hundreds of supporters in seoul today. He told a News Conference it was a scary incident but he feels, quote, pretty darned good. Lippert was slashed in the face and arm by an antiamerican activist. A security review is now under way. A developing story from houston. The citys busy shipping channel has been closed after a collision in the fog. One ship was carrying a toxic highly flammable chemical. Some of it leaked. In a plea deal that allowed his wife and business partner, jody savin, to avoid doing time, miller will serve two years in jail, eight years probation. Miller and his crew were on a rural georgia bridge last year filming Midnight Rider, a biopic about singer gregg allman. Like this never before seen letter that bermans stepson says durst sent to her a year before her death. It was clear enough i might be dancing with the devil. Reporter he says it appears eerily similar to an anonymous note sent to police the day berman died. A letter Authorities Say only bermans killer could have written. The address written on the front is exactly like the cadaver note found with the misspelling the beverly. Reporter durst denies killing berman. I had nothing to do with susan berman and death. Reporter police long believe he had a motive allegedly wanting to silence her on a crime hes never been charged with the disappearance of his first wife kathleen now declared dead. Durst says he has no idea what happened to him. The jinx director andrew jarecki. What the audience will find when they get to the end is theyre not scratching their head. Can you believe he cooperated in this documentary . I mean it is astounding. Remember this is a guy who the local authorities believe is connected to a 1982 murder of his wife the 2000 murder of his friend to cover up the 1982 murder and then charged in 2001 in the case that he of course was acquitted in. So the fact that he even cooperated in this is astounding and so its not that surprising to me that now that they have durst on camera and they have renewed attention to this case that theyve got themselves some new evidence and robert durst could find himself in some big trouble. Got that letter where the handwriting may match. Absolutely and that becomes a crucial piece of evidence. I mean theyve been lacking that one thing to link him. Theyve always suspected it. They felt it in their guts. They said to themself wait a second. How could it be anything else . If they can link that letter back to durst, theyve got a crucial piece of evidence. Now, the problem here is that handwriting analysis tends to be as much art as it is science. And so you can certainly get someone on the other side to say, yes, well these things do look similar and the misspelling is similar. There are other reasons to question. Just real quickly he can be tried again he can be tried for the killing of the wifes disappearance or the friend but not tried again any case where he hasnt already been tried they could charge him for. I think that was one thing that made bali so tough because i didnt have my family to help me with those decisions and finally getting back to iowa and being with my sisters and parents really helped me find some clarity in the whole decisionmaking process. I have to ask you, whitney, whats it like to go back in that room after the rose special with all the other gals who youve now seen on the show, you know, some pretty intense moments, as well. Actually, you know, i didnt watch the season, so i missed a lot of those intense moments, but, you know, he had a great group of girls and i made some great friends and, you know, it was good to see some familiar faces. Theres a lot of pressure on parents, teachers to be their best so i think sometimes people forget and throw out youre the best, youre the best, their child will be happy. When, in fact, the child really just wants to be accepted and understood and cared for. Reporter are they born or made . Dutch researchers may have figured this out. Their research types that parents who tell their kids theyre special or more deserving than other kids may increase narcissistic tendencies. This is your room . It was my parents room. But i made them trade me. Reporter they may be able to change their behavior by reinforcing the idea that theyre loved, not special. Telling them how exceptional they are doesnt produce kids with higher selfesteem but narcissists. Thats a problem. You dont want. You want kids to believe theyre just as good as everybody else. You dont want them to think theyre better than everybody else. Thats the trick. Thats the key. Trying to walk that line is tough. We have a parenting expert, Ericka Souter is back. Parents have to be worried. Most parents do overvalue their kids accomplishments. We praise everything. My son makes a mess, thank you, thats such a great job. So we have to be very careful because theres a fallout. As they get older you have egotistical selfimportant entitled children so parents are skirting a fine line between praising and overpraising. You and t. J. Are both parents and always spend time on social media and parents want to know how much the selfie and for young people to post just about every single thing they do. Researchers have a hard time making a connection to say, hey, social media causes you to be a narcissist but it certainly develops narcissistic tendencies. What can you do on certainly media . You can cultivate and manipulate your image telling people exactly what you want them to think of you as. How much time do people spend on a profile picture, the glamour shot. Well take 12 selfies before we get it right to post one. Now our selfworth is wrapped up in what others think of us versus what we think of ourselves and goes back to the selfesteem how many likes . How many followers. People are obsessed with getting that, you know, those approvals from the outside world. Thats not necessarily a good thing. We want them to feel good from a different place, intrinsic place. Accomplishments, not just what we look like. There are lots of things parents can do without constantly praising. Number one, you should know your child. You know, not every kid needs the same amount of praise. You know, if you have a type a kid that thinks theyre the bomb they dont need as much as your shy, timid kid and use praise widely. Dont praise everything. They should get a sense of what they really do well. Tell them when they do things wrong too. Exactly. Not necessarily whatever talents you have. Thats exactly thats the nail on the head, george. The hills are alive with the sound of music reporter the musical ever made and andrews learning to play guitar just for this role. Why do you think it resonates with generation after generation after generation . Well, theres the obvious one which is that every seven years theres a new generation and they get introduced to it but then the film has to be pretty good to last that long anyway. It was one of the wonderfully crafted hollywood movies and its full of joy and love and family and adventure and its got children and nuns and scenery and beautiful music so somewhere in there is the secret. Yes, it is. Its a beautiful secret and its one that shared from family to family and as you say they do pass it on. I hear so many of our staffers who say who are younger than the us. Right. Especially me. They say they know the film because they go to their grandparents and they play it. Right. What and they share the memories of it. What is it like for you when you watch it . That kind of fear because lots of people know this character before you got your hands on it and cant let people down. When im hearing your accent its quite proper british in the film but scottish scottish. Love the brogue. Yes. Is that hard to contain when youre in character . No, i think to everyones annoyance i stay in the accent when im working for the film just to make sure that the scottish notes dont slip through. How was it for you to play the to go from robb stark to prince charming . Nice, nice to be nice to be in new costumes for a change, cost opportunities that dont smell because ive been wearing them for year, nice to not be worried people are going to be killing my family every day. One of the most genuine people, though, that ive ever known and most importantly, he was an incredible dad to his two daughters and in recent years, stuart was known for his very public battle with cancer. He passed away earlier this year and just weeks before, he finished writing his memoir every day i fight and we are honored today to have his dear siblings, susan, synthia and stephen here with us in the birth order. Everyone is strong like stuart and were coming along. Theres a cute story of our parents, theyre reading the book to each other and laughing and crying, taylor and sydni have moved back into their new normal. Thats going to take more time. Thats a process and i think its a process for all of us. It has been. Theres always been the four of. You. Its always been the four of us. Weve always been a package, two girls, two boys, but he lived so courageously and so were going to continue that. Was there something that surprised you when you read the book . I was surprised at how much fight he had. The things that stayed in his head when people told him he couldnt do something. I didnt know how much he internalized, you know what, that person told me no and im going to show them, but then also the maturity of i have to let that one go and just move forward. We all know the spee n pver r ah said about cancer and its h you live. That was a part that was my favorite part ohole cf1speh ou onl manner in which you live the next part was the most important and mandate to me was go live so whether cancer or whatever it is youre dealing what showed everybody w thats exactlhat brother beat cancer by how he lived . Nothing about stuarts life that didnt have to change changed. Cancer was so secondary in his daytoday activity, we never saw how internalized it was. Who inspired stu . Dad . Dad. Dad. And mom. I would say both our parents. Yes. The thing about dad, integrity, truth, justice, f mom, emotion, honesty, heart. Such a combination of those two. So when people pick up this book, what is i ou your brother and knowing maybe g ree that no matter what youre finanyte, have a tenacity and dont give up. And above all he wants people to remember him for being a gat d taylor it was palpable for him that he be able to touch them, talk to them, feel them, any and everything with them was important to him. Yes. Were going to go stealth. Yeah. What is that . Wherever we went anywhere, stuart would say lets go stealth and we would pretend to be commandos on the street hiding behind cars and street posts and guiding each other forwards to and it was just fun.
